A Very Pleasant Stay with Room to Reach True 5-Star Excellence – 4.5 Stars
We stayed at Lexis from 26–28 January and wanted to share our honest experience.
The Good:
Check-in and check-out were hassle-free, and the room was impressively spacious. We booked the Premium Pool Suite, which comes with two large beds that can easily accommodate four persons. The balcony features a private pool and steam room, while the bathroom is massive with a beautiful bathtub where you can soak while enjoying an ocean view. Truly a relaxing setup.
A quick note on the in-room pool: it's not small but also not oversized—just right for a relaxing dip or hanging out with your partner. The water is not stagnant, and despite some reviews claiming otherwise, the pump is indeed working. It appears to run on a timer or motion sensor rather than 24/7. In my parents' room, the pump pressure was weak initially, but I informed the reception and they immediately sent their team to clear debris blocking the piping outlet. The issue was resolved in less than half a day—efficient service.
If you're looking for a proper swim, the main pool on the 8th floor is spacious, and there is staff stationed there to provide towels. The facilities overall were great: TV with plenty of working channels, cold air-conditioning, and well-equipped game room, gym, and kids' room.
The rooftop bar was another highlight—intimate and not overcrowded. The Nepalese bartender truly stood out; he went above and beyond catering to our needs even though we didn't spend much at the bar. Exceptional service like that makes a difference.
For Foreigners & Food Lovers:
A quick heads-up—the beach here isn't for swimming, as the hotel is located near a fishing village. But that location works to your advantage if you love seafood. You'll find some of the cheapest, freshest, and most delicious seafood just minutes away:
Penang Hai Boey Seafood – Just a 5-minute Grab ride from the hotel. Great for a satisfying seafood meal without going too far.
Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood – Only a 3-minute walk from the hotel. Super convenient if you want good food within walking distance.
Gertak Sanggul Tua Pek Kong Seafood – About an 11-minute drive or Grab ride away. This place offers an Omakase-style seafood experience—you'll need to call ahead to make a reservation, and they'll cook whatever they caught that day. You literally get to eat some of the freshest seafood possible, prepared on the spot.
Why 4.5 Stars Instead of 5:
1. Parking Ramp Too Narrow – Not suitable for MPVs/large cars. Hotel should inform guests in advance. We paid RM20/day for reserved lobby parking—suggest complimentary parking for bookings of 2+ rooms as goodwill.
2. Housekeeping Uses Brooms, Not Vacuums – Sweeping stirs up dust instead of removing it. Industrial vacuums would keep rooms cleaner, especially for guests with allergies.
3. Charlie Ants in Bathroom – A few appeared, understandable given location near fishing village. We used natural Malaysian-made repellent (safe for kids, eco-friendly) and ants disappeared. Passed bottle to reception—affordable and effective solution they should adopt.
4. Basic In-Room Amenities – Just instant coffee and tea bags. Doesn't feel 5-star. A plate of local fruits on arrival and better drink options (hot chocolate, local nutmeg drink) would elevate the experience.
Verdict: Great potential, comfortable stay, friendly staff. Fix these small details and it's easily 5 stars. Would return.
