"Can Budget Bites Also Be Delicious and Stylish? Yes, They Can. Where in Montreal can diners hope for an affordable meal that isn't drenched in oil or entirely free of flavors? At L'Gros Luxe, that's where. This stylish neighborhood watering hole may look like a hip, Victorian-inspired and overall super cool place but the truth is that anyone is welcome; from ladies who lunch, young families who brunch or friends out to celebrate a birthday. Portions at L'Gros Luxe are smaller than a regular meal but bigger than tapas, and yet prices are always under $8 per plate. L'Gros Luxe strives to bring its customer the freshest, locally-sourced produce available, and the way they can afford to cut back on prices is by making literally everything in house - from sauces to veggie patties from scratch. Their poutine is quite a mouthful - tater tots, cheese curds, veggie gravy and green onions. A nice change, and something poutine aficionados should not deprive themselves from. Their legendary Ceasars, which are topped with a mini grilled-cheese, are simply mindblowing. And easy on the wallet."

We went as a group from work, about 15 of us, on a Wednesday. There were no other customers. It took a while for us to get served but our servers Enrique and Diego were very accommodating and polite. However there were many menu items that were unavailable (fish & chips, steak and all rice bowls were unavailable despite being on the menu). The decor is nice but it was very cold (we went in February) like the windows were badly insulated. At least the food we got was very tasty and served with good presentation. I would recommend going to this location at a busier time like probably on the weekend.

After eagerly anticipating my visit to this restaurant, I was deeply disappointed. The noise level inside was intolerable, with loud music making the experience uncomfortable. The staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, unable to explain menu items. Additionally, we were charged for replacing fries with a salad, despite the menu indicating no additional charge. Both the presentation and taste of the food were below average. I won't be returning to this place.

Well, I had a really good time at this restaurant. For a comfort food, it is really not greasy or oily. It was a really nice place and the service was so welcoming! I definitely recommend this place if you want some food near Plateau. The burger was pretty good and not overly priced. I will say that the poutine was pretty good too. Stop by and chill with friends at this place! It’s really worth it!

Drink was really good, recommended by bartender ( I ordered san mojito but he recommended this one). The food was ok but I prefer the one in Longueuil branch.

Hanging out in Montreal on business and it's dinner time. The weather is nice out so we chose to walk to this spot and check it out after I had done some Yelp research! Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is super chill and set in downtown, but in more of the trendy, neighborhood district away from all the giant skyscrapers. It's all small restaurants, shops, brick streets and apartments around this way. There's no private parking lot, so good luck finding space on the street. The outside looks very modern with matte steel finishings among the brick exterior of the building. Inside looks just as modern, but with a retro twist. There's also outdoor seating if you'd like to dine outdoors as well. Service: We sat at the bar and our bartender was helpful, sweet, attentive and made sure that we had everything we needed. Food: I started off with their Jalapeno Poppers which are fried breaded jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese served with Sriracha mayonnaise. These were fairly decent and I enjoyed them as the start to a good meal. For my entree I decided on the Philly Sandwich which is steak, caramalized onions, roasted red peppers, sauteed mushrooms with melted cheese. It was delightful, but felt a little on the small side. Of course it comes with fries or some other side, but I opted for the side salad to try keeping things a little healthier. Value: Pretty standard, tavern-like pricing that won't break the bank and you won't be eating McDonald's cheap either. Right in the middle. In conclusion, I really enjoyed this place and I'd consider revisiting to try out some other things on the menu.

Not sure where to start but extremely disappointed. Ordered from the Uber app and the food was nothing like the pictures or description. I ordered the beet and goat salad, in the description they mentioned that the goat cheese were "fried breaded goat cheese' unfortunately the goat cheese wasn't fried or breaded. Also there was only 4 pieces of beets and apples however the picture showed a salad full of beets. I also ordered the spicy fried chicken burger that was a disaster. the chicken cutlet were very thin and it was heavenly breaded. the burger wasn't spicy and the proportion is small. the only reason i gave 2 stars is because of the fries. Won't order from here again.

I ordered the Mac Poppers and absolutely loved it!!! Super cheesy and filling. As you can see I finished it. Our server was also super nice. Definitely recommend and will be returning!

I felt like the whole experience was pretty unprofessional service-wise. We were a larger group, but that’s not an excuse. We arrived at 6:30 and our orders were taken at 8pm. With the first drink I ordered, the bartender lost the bill and so we were sort of stranded at the bar until he found it cause he didn’t want us to leave or find us so we could pay later. I asked for my bill early while folks were still eating and about 20 ish minutes later I hadn’t received it so I went to wait at the bill station to pay. The waiter was upset and gave me a hard time, saying that I had to give him more of a notice. When I finally left, apparently he went running after me thinking I hadn’t payed. He even went up to my friends and asked them where I went since I « hadn’t payed ». When he realized his mistake he told them never mind, but in any case I find that pretty unprofessional. Half of the menu items were missing and the food was decent, but won’t be going back.

Yelp
Unfortunately very disappointed and frankly a bit confused by L'Gros Luxe. While the service and atmosphere were both nice, the food and drinks were very very subpar. Ordered the Doritos nachos which were served with no Doritos? Instead they used old, extremely stale tortilla chips. I truly hate picking a restaurant apart, but the nachos that were supposed to come with black beans had a total of 3 beans and pre packaged "guacamole". We also ordered the cauliflower which lacked any sort of seasoning and was over cooked. Finally the mac and cheese was just straight up weird? Since when is mac and cheese green? While the restaurant is clean and the staff is nice, I can't recommend coming here. Very expensive yet very low quality food.

Yelp

Yelp
A beautifully decorated, warm and comfortable feeling restaurant including an absolutely incredible, varied, creative cocktail menu filled with delicious and very large drinks (of which we consumed many) - you defintiely get a good bang for your buck here. Likewise, the food items are very affordable, especially for the astounding portions of packed dishes. The grilled cheese poutine was exceptionally cheesy (just the way we like it) served with a traditional, lovely gravy on the side. We had a great time celebrating this milestone and we will most assuredly return soon.

Yelp
If you are looking for a place with fantastic vegan/vege options, LGros Luxe Plateau Mont-Royal is my all time favorite recommendation. Renowned for their Bloody Mary, you can choose to top your drink up with a variety of fried food (onion rings, quesadilla, mini vege burger etc). They have the option to make your own personalized drinks from their different "toppings" choices and a large variety of liqueur. The menu is fairly simple, but everything is very tasty. they tests recipes once in a while and only keep the ones with good reviews. The waiters are genuine, extremely friendly and helpful. They will give you their honest opinions on certain meal and drink combinations. I ordered my bloody Mary with onion rings and a vegan burger with a side of tater tots. The burger was very nice and the patty stayed whole the entire time. I had problems at other vegan restaurants where the patties would just fall apart at the first bite; not this one. Thoroughly recommend you try it on your own! Great for a chill weekday dinner. Tend to be very busy in the weekend!

Yelp
I am so happy this terrace is still open during COVID. The restaurant was clean and had property santiation procedures We were served by Shawn who provided excellent service through out as well as a lesson on Quebec music (as their drink menu is inspired by Quebec song titles) For drink I had the "Lost my baby" which is inspired by a song by artist Jean LeLoup who apparently lives near the restaurant. To eat I had the Jerk burger and WOW it was amazing

Yelp
This is a great place for brunch. They have 2 for 1 caesars or bottomless mimosas on the weekend. Their caesars are the best in town. And trust me, I've tried A LOT. You can also have their caesar as a meal and choose your sides. I also love that they have veggie and vegan options. Perfect place to go with friends

Yelp
I ordered from Uber Eats. I got a Cheeseburger that normally comes with fries; and I upgraded to a poutine for an extra 3 dollars. This is what I received. The burger was nice and juicy, but a bit too small for $16. The problem is the poutine. First of all, it's a tiny portion. Secondly, it honestly looks like it was actually a bigger portion but they suddenly decided to remove half of it. There is a big chunk of cheese and some soggy fries. I didn't receive any gravy. But even if I did, I wouldn't be able to pour it on the fries as it would just leak out of the box. And it definitely wouldn't be able to melt the cheese. This is a new low to poutine delivery.

Yelp
We had an office Christmas party here last week, the only upside is we had our own private area in the back. The noise at the front was way too much for me. For drinks, I had a Moscow Mule (way too much ginger), and a Southern Escape (too bitter and sweet). I was not impressed in that regard. The highlight of the night was the nachos that were super delicious, especially with the added steak ($15+3). Everything worked so well and was looking forward to my Steak-Frites main since the slices of steak here were awesome. The main was a major letdown, the meat had an off-taste i would describe as sour, the limp fries did not do much to help. There is nothing else on the plate to garnish or look forward to. At my table, the other person also did not like the steak, the burgers seemed to be good as well as the poutine. I know there's a lot of hype for this mini-chain, but this is just not for me. The service was good, nothing spectactular and they were able to supply food and drinks for 20 people with no discernible waiting time

Yelp
Been here twice now. Good place to grab a bite and a drink with say, a date, but be prepared to stay a while. EDIT: spent 45 minutes waiting for food this time, again. Dropped a star. Food: the food is great and the drinks are good too. Had the bourbon lemonade which was tasty and the karaage burger as well. Nothing to yell home about but it's good bar food for sure. Service: god is service slow here. Both times I've been here I waited on the order of 30 minutes for food. Also, the staff is not particularly kind here, they're actually pretty aggressive. Had this experience both times and wasn't too happy about it. Price: fair. Not much else to say. Ambiance: has an old fashioned bar feeling despite interesting food options. Definitely a good vibe going if that's what you're looking for. The service can do a bit of damage to the feeling though, if you're not here just for quick drinks.

Yelp
I don't know about the other dishes, but don't order the fish and chips. Got the equivalent of 2 chicken nuggets for 21$.

Yelp
My son and his girlfriend suggested this place as they had heard they made a great Ceasar. The location is a funky little place with antique cameras and other curiosities. The must is great and yet not too loud to make conversation difficult. Our server was Olivieri. He was fun and knowledgeable about the food. He has traveled great distances on his bike and loves photography. The two loves make him worldly yet humble. The food was amazing. I had a burger with a friend egg on top. We also had lobster Mac and Cheese with the pork ribs on top plus, plus. I had a delicious sangria. Would I return? You betcha!

Yelp
This place definitely worth it for their pitchers! I tried bourbon lemonade, which is their best selling pitcher and tonic botanique. Tonic botanique was unique with its violet liqueur while the bourbon was a tasty lil drink! I personally loved the tonic because it was so pretty and refreshing. Their food is quite mediocre. The nachos I had didn't have enough salsa to eat it with and the mac and cheese wasn't the best I've had. In fact, I think they ran out of macaronis that day and served me penne and cheese. But they have a bunch of veggie/gluten free meals! I would say this place is good for a nice drink and fun ambience, but the food is nothing special to talk about.
google avatar

Kathy N.

Yelp
This is a great location on Duluth. Their not so secret terrace is such a lovely space, the best time to come is after work for food and drinks. You can grab pitchers with friends or even come here on a date. Offering affordable comfort food as well a healthy options, L'Gros Luxe is as versatile as it is great! A special gem on their menu is the vegetarian chicken waffles. Pop by if you're in the area for a fantastic meal without breaking the bank.

Yelp
Just horrible. This place keeps getting worse and worse. I used to love eating here but in the last few years, the quality has really dumbed down. Prices went up and food on the plates shrank too. Today, I gave it another chance and went for brunch. The menu is pretty small and simple. I got the Eggs Bene. The "poached" eggs were extremely over cooked and hard like they were boiled. I told the waitress and she just shrugged and said "sorry". The potatoes were cold and they changed from Tater Tots to boring cube cut potato's. So disappointing. Honestly if a resto doesn't know how to poach an egg - it's over. I paid 20 bucks for this weak plate and left more than half the food on the plate. I can make better eggs bene at home lol Highly highly not recommending for brunch. Go anywhere else.
google avatar

Vikrant T.

Yelp
One of the best vegan/vegetarian friendly --but with also meat/egg options -- brunch place. The portions are big and food tastes good. Wasn't too crowded either.

Yelp
Came with a group to have a nice dinner and evening. Ordered the vegan butter chicken curry, and it was very good. Would have wished for the food to be served hotter in terms of temperature and spice. The server was funny and fantastic, made us feel very comfortable. Overall, would come again.

Yelp
I'm with Danielle K., L'Gros Luxe should stick with what they do well: cheap and delicious food! I went here with some friends on a warm summer evening. I was dreaming of air conditioning and delicious drinks, and was a little disappointed to learn they were byob. No matter, the menu looked interesting and byob can be fun, so we were game to try it. And instead of a it being a "luxe" experience, I found it was pricey for not terribly filling food. I ordered some tacos and a friend ordered a salad, and as soon as we were done we quickly ordered a plate of calamari to split because there was no way our dishes were going to satisfy us. Another friend ordered the tartare, and that seemed more substantial, but it shouldn't be so hit or miss. Maybe it was growing pains (I don't think this location had been open long when we went), but our server wasn't terribly professional or efficient. The service just seemed way too rough around the edges for a restaurant trying to be more upscale. I may be back, because everyone deserves a second chance, but I will know to make my menu choices wisely.

Yelp
Have been to the new BYOW location on Duluth about three times and I won't be going back. Overall I'm not that impressed with the menu. I know that they have had their troubles at this location with getting their liquor license and they were forced to do a BYOW with a more "upscale" menu, but honestly, the food is just not worth the price. There are so many amazing BYOW restaurants in Montreal at similar price points and much better food. L'Gros Luxe should just stick to what they know. On the main menu, I've tried: Try #1 - "Carpaccio de Tomates" - ok but $16? It's literally a plate of tomatoes with a bit of cheese. Nothing special here. - Tataki de Thon - this was good, but for $18 the portion is really small. - Tacos de Boeuf and Tacos de Petoncles - again, good enough but really small portions. The first time we went my husband and I split these and we were still starving. After spending $65 on food I would expect that I'm not leaving hungry. Try #2 - after the first experience we decided to try to order something that sounded more substantial: - Croquettes de Crabe 5/$18- these were pretty tasty. No complaints although my friend said his were still cold inside. - Tartare de Thon $18 - I've had better. The flavours were just overall bland. - Cotes de Boeuf Braisees $26 - these were good and filling Overall just felt that the food was ok but really unrefined for the price. Try #3 - decided to give the brunch a shot since we enjoyed the brunch as the St. Andre location. This experience was really not good. We ordered: - Eggs Benedit: were supposed to be asparagus and roquette and we added the braised lamb for an extra $5 bringing the plate to $20. The lamb was the highlight of this meal. The eggs were under cooked with runny whites inside. The asparagus, which was the feature of the benedict had we not added the lamb, was overcooked and the whole plate came with one piece of asparagus cut in half. Had we not added the lamb the benedict would have been really underwhelming. - Neptune Omelette. $16. The description for this dish is "Cheese omelette with crabe "hache", avocado, fresh dill and salt and pepper. I asked to have the dish without cheese. The omelette came to the table filled with melted cheese. I returned it to the server and was told that there was just "a bit of cheese in the crab mix". Sorry but I asked for no cheese - I don't want any cheese - not even "a bit of cheese" is ok - why would you even think this is acceptable!??! Why would the kitchen not tell you they can't do it without cheese!??! The agreed to redo the omelette for me and had to "make the mix from scratch" because I wanted no cheese - ok fine, so I waited for my omelette. Here's what was in it: crab meat mixed with mayonnaise (where was this on the description??) and tomatoes (also not in the description). Avocado on top. Overall the mayo made this dish taste really odd and just didn't work at all. If you are going to add tomatoes, can you please include this in the menu description!?! I'm still in disbelief of the fiasco of this omelette. The only upside was that our server was really nice and did give my coffee on the house for the inconvenience of the cheese mix up (I didn't complain the second time about the tomatoes - at that point I was just hungry and wanted to get out of there). Overall I won't go back to this location. I will stick with Mile-End where the menu isn't trying to be something it's not and we've never had a bad experience.

Yelp
I see a lot of disappointed people in the reviews, but I enjoyed my experience! I'm a long time l'gros luxe fan, my go-to spot was always the old lgros luxe plateau on St-André (yet have to try the 100% végé) We figured we would try this one since it's BYOW. The location is beautiful, especially the terrasse. (Which is more like a yard space which is super cute and intimate) I got the tuna tartare and my friend got the tuna tataki/edamame salad. The presentation was nice and the food was fresh and tasty. The menu is creative and I sure want to go back sometime to try the other items. A lot of people wrote they didn't feel full from the food they ate, but we were satisfied with our portions. I worked a 10 hr shift before going there and barely had lunch and my plate was enough to satisfy my hunger. In the end, the food may be pricier but if you're someone who likes to drink, you will definitely save money from your drink consommation. Just pick up a nice wine before you get there and you're all set!

Yelp
Second time I've been at a Gros Luxe in a week! I prefer the Mile End location because it's cosier, but service was super friendly at both locations. So glad that they have vegan options -- so far I've had the mac + cheese and poutine and they were both great. Happy to have found this chain -- great place for me and my omnivore partner to go. Hopefully they'll keep expanding the vegan menu. ;-D

Yelp
It's a nice space with interesting decor, but that's where our good experience stopped. I had been a few times before and found it overpriced for mediocre food but decided to give it one last chance. My initial assessment was confirmed. Slow service (took so long to get our drinks) with a bit of an attitude, and my chicken tacos were awful (came out cold, super dry chicken but the rest was mushy). My friends told me their meals were ok but not worth the price. And the music was terrible...black eyed peas, avril lavigne, ja rule...inexcusable
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
Horrible service. Too slow. Forgot some of our order. Drinks came out at separate times. One person was done their food by the time the others food arrived. Server never came for a quality check and also asked if we wanted out bills before we even received our food. The place wasn't busy either, I will never go back to this restaurant.
google avatar

Ryan W.

Yelp
Was disappointed and embarrassed as I had brought clients in from out of town on our last visit to be served food which had been dried out under the heat lamps for god knows how long. The poutine and other dishes were soggy, chewy and cold. As a vegan it's sad to have to cross one more resto off of the list of places where I can and want to eat at but that was the last time at L'Gros Luxe for me
google avatar

Nastia G.

Yelp
The food was fine but the waiter looked at / addressed my boyfriend most of the time while communicating with us. Then when we paid he spoke French only while knowing I'm anglophone, and when I asked for separate bills, he refused to do that, and in a condescending voice told me "it's too late, sometimes, you know, it's okay to just say "thanks"" (when someone's inviting you). Unacceptable and very disappointing.

Yelp
Food was lovely. Nice menu and great Caesar. Love the terrace. However, service is pretty bad.

Yelp
I can't say it was bad everything was really great but as the majority of the reviews says it was really expensive. I got the poutine grilled cheese and a bloody caesar and it was realllllyyy great the ambiance is much much plateau

Yelp
Wonderful and cute little spot for lunch/brunch. The service staff was lovely. They were all so pleasant and nice, very attentive. We had a variety of foods- grilled cheese, eggs benedict and blueberry pancakes. All great! I'll definitely be back on my next trip to Montréal.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this restaurant with my group accidentally, but was very happy we decided to eat here. I got the Burger Coreén (fried chicken & kimchi), and it was absolutely phenomenal. Our food came out quickly and our server, Oliviero, was very friendly and personable. There was no wait for our group of 8, the atmosphere was relaxed, there was a good selection of beer, and prices were cheap. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to enjoy a meal in the Plateau.

Jeneva C.

Yelp
If I could give this restaurant a zero, I would. My friends and I had gone out to dinner (we're only 16-17) and as we waited for our food, our friend got a seizure. During her seizure, we began to freak out and request for help her as all of the employees, including waitresses and waiters did absolutely nothing, not even bother to call someone or an ambulance. We screamed and tried to get help but none of them bothered. On top of that, there was a group of men in the back of us who were starring us down and as our friend is going through her seizure, they took a picture of her and no one from the restaurant asked the men for the picture or helped us as retrieve it. We tried to confront them that this was not okay and completely unacceptable to photograph. We called an ambulance and as the ambulance finally arrived, the waiters came out and demanded that we pay our meals even though we did not eat any of it as our friend had a seizure. After the incident, two of our moms emailed the owner in which the owner never responded, instead it was the manager but they did not apologize or take any sort of action. They simply stated that our story was not correct and that their employee told them a different story but you could check the security cameras, the proof is all there. This place is a disgrace. The food is at best average but everything else about it is not worthy of a penny. They do not care and the fact that they did not help us nor call an ambulance or offer any kind of assistance, speaks volumes. While we were outside with the ambulance, they felt it was necessary to come out and tell us to pay for the food we did not eat. They also told the ambulance to turn off their lights to not disturb anyone, even the paramedics were upset with them. Imagine if a loved one or a friend was going through something like this...you can only imagine how upsetting and disappointing this is. If you're looking for a place with good service, kind people and a decent place to be at, this is not it. Avoid at all costs. I truly hope this message is received as I would not want anyone to go through any of this, seizure or not.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE !! THIS IS NOT A VEGAN FRIENDLY RESTAURANT!! They dont care about serving meat to you...."mistakes can happen " is what I was given as an apology !!?? Seriously !!! This place is a joke to anyone looking for vegan options !! And from the looks of it , I am not the first person this happens to ...LET ALL VEGANS AND VEGETARIANS BOYCOTT L'GROS LUXE ....they probably run out of their vegan ingredients and mock us by serving us meat thinking that we wont notice !! Shame to the owner, the manager and the cooking staff...as its obvious there is no chef with any kind of pride in that kitchen....I shudder to think about the lack of organization that kitchen must be like !! Uncaring staff and no prideful owner would allow this kind of mistake happen.....HORRIBLE....what if I had a peanut allergy???? Meat makes me extremely ill and I will be sick for days !!! They havent heard the last of me !!!!

Yelp
it took us over an hour to get our food. we ordered a side salad and a poutine. do not go here if you value your time
