The St. Regis Lhasa Resort

"With 20-foot lobby ceilings, huge exposed beams, locally woven carpets, and paintings of Tibetan nomads, the luxurious St. Regis Lhasa resort combines au courant comforts and Tibetan motifs inspired by the nearby Sera Monastery. The 150 guest rooms and 12 villas, in subdued browns with black-and-white photos of Buddhist pilgrims, have mammoth bathrooms with heated slate floors, heated toilet seats, and a separate tub. Despite the St. Regis’s Chinese and Tibetan restaurants, the focal point for meals is Social, where the menu is a bit high-brow for such a little-visited destination—an amuse-bouche of rich pumpkin soup with crabmeat, creamy imported Japanese scallops, and a sensational organic lamb rolled in cumin—but we’re not complaining. The grounds showcase clean lines, with a spa pavilion, a meditation garden, and 40-foot crimson exterior walls. The enthusiastic and unjaded young Tibetans working here—about half of the staff—not only welcome the chance to share their culture with outsiders, but also prize the opportunity for first-class professional training."

The St. Regis Lhasa Resort (Lhasa, Tibet) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Disputed territories rarely make for great high-end hospitality, but Lhasa’s hotel scene seems to be on the upswing lately — which might bespeak a burgeoning shift in sentiment. That a brand like St. Regis could exist here at all is proof positive. This may be a brand that benefits from a step or two outside of the comfort zone, and anyway no other view on Earth quite compares with the majesty of the Himalayas. At its core, though, the brand’s trademark neutral serenity reads as an act of succor to the resilient local, the harried traveler, and the road-weary pilgrim alike; something of a hospitality hat trick." - Tablet Hotels

It’s definitely the best hotel in Lhasa, but not the St Regis 5* we are used to. First of all, majority of the staff do not speak nor understand English, only 2 persons could help to book the restaurants and order the room service meals. And a special thanks for the 2 of them. It was the first time that I was present to the room and anyone could tell me how the air conditioning works. But I’m on holidays and could handle it without worries. After a day tour on the beautiful palaces and temples, I really need a massage, but the spa was closed for renovation. I understand it, but they could provide an alternative service for the guests during works renovations, such as - room massage. The Chinese restaurant was super, I had almost all my meals there. The hotel has a beautiful decoration and a memorable view to the magnificent Potala Palace. I was very well assisted by the staff from boutique hotel shop, where I’ve bought a nice souvenir.

Purposely selecting this hotel for our first night because there's a clinic inside the hotel which feels secured upon flight arrival. Hotel was big with ******* design. Love the warm greetings from the staff and appreciate their patience and reminders of slow pace to minimise the mountain sickness. Room was incredibly spacious. Staff was so helpful to drive and lead us to the room. Showing all the equipments operations and help delivering our heavy luggages. The room has everything you need. Definitely perfect to spend your first night here after a long daunting journey. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. You could recharge and rehydrate yourself with everything you can think of when it comes to breakfast. Both Chinese, ******* and Western. A big thumb up and highly recommend.

We visited the St. Regis during our Tibet tour. We also booked our guide through the hotel – a great recommendation. The rooms are spacious and clean. Oxygen is available. We couldn't adjust the air conditioning to a lower level, so we had to live with 23 degrees Celsius. The rooftop terrace and breakfast were good. We expected more from the Chinese restaurant. Overall, the staff was friendly and spoke English. The hotel is safe and well located.

Not St Regis quality at all, currently at this hotel with family , in Lhasa suite , ac does not work properly , set to 16 Celsius and the room is baking at 27 Celsius ! The guest bathroom did not have soap in it , room is definitely old fashioned and dated. Most importantly - very few staff speak English . Just to add to this , trying to order room service , butler said restaurant is busy and will call in 50 minutes and mindyou this is 930 pm , day we landed and tired and overslept so we couldn’t go out . Has butler call front desk and he said no one is answering ! Wow. Way to go!! Lifetime platinum and titanium elite and not entitled at all . Was hoping to get better service especially traveling a kid . On the good points - the staff is friendly and genuinely try to help . You have to complain and ask for duty manager and sound like a pest unfortunately !! Ask for room in main building otherwise a bit of walk at high altitude to reach the breakfast and dining area and front desk . They do provide a humidifier and oxygen machine that is good . The bidet is Toto and is good as well though the toilet glass door doesn’t close fully ! Makes a huge screeching sound . My suggestion is that Marriott should do an independent audit of this hotel using staff from other st Regis like in Egypt Cairo , let them stay here in regular and upgraded room and have them see for themselves . Would not recommend if we have other choices. Will update this review if they redeem themselves in the next few days I am here .

Room was very spacious with a good view. I was staying at their tower 2, which required to walk a small distance outdoor to the hotel main building, not ideal but understandable that was their physical layout. Room seemed well equipped but most (if not all) of the light switches were unlabelled, you had to guess which was which. The rain shower was in a bad condition. Missing the TV remote but their staff helped to resolve swiftly.||Had happy hours there which was ok. Had dinner at their western restaurant which was ok, not great but acceptable.||Then came their breakfast serving which was very bad. A la cert orders cane in cold. Cold cut and bacon at the buffet counter were in bad quality. Quality of their breakfast was far behind any international brands of 5 star hotels.

Luxurious and beautiful, best in Lhasa, but a little worn. Food was delicious and high quality with excellent service. We saw 3 rooms over several days and they were all spacious including the suite. The a/c worked intermittently and led to a hot night and an elevator went on the fritz, but overall a good experience.

Luxurious hotel. Hood location. Quiet. Nice restaurants. Unfortunately certain blocks quite far from lobby (block 1). Main entrance is quite a walk from the road uphill. Make aure aide gates are open when u walk back after town walks.

very terrible experience and not honest staffs, the broken air conditioner sent two friends to emergency with 128 heart beats/min at 2am, changed the room at 2:30am and throw the buddha gifts bought in the Tibet into DUSTBIN! Staff APRIL YAN is kind of disaster caring little about guests and will call young guests as "KIDS". RUN away from the hotel! DONT COME to Here to RISK your own LIFE and LUCK!
