Google
Found Liberty Bakery & Cafe today and what a find. In the years we have been coming to Vancouver how could have missed this wonderful place. Forget the homogenised, generic designer places that can lack soul, this is the real deal. A fantastic local run business, with wonderful staff and amazing food. We had the the smoked chicken toasted sandwich and the Bunny muffin which is a carrot cake muffin. Both were truly delicious. I highly recommend you visit this gem and enjoy your food in the company of lovely local people. Blissful.

Today afternoon my friend and I went to Liberty Bakery & Coffee on Main Street. The walls and the floor material were nice which made me feel back in the 20th century. Tables and Chairs could be better though. They have a lot of baking things which definitely look really delicious. We just ordered Latte, Americano and a cookie which tasted average. It could be way much better. They also could have more options of food. In addition, it closes at 4pm so we needed to leave at 4 (totally understandable) . This was not a problem (just writing this as a neutral observation

Google
This cafe has been on my list for a while. Tried the totoro cookie. It tasted just ok. Very healthy oat cookie, not sweet. Carrot cake also ok, not too swwet. Ordered vanilla latte oat milk. It's a bit too high acidity for me. Very great service, everyone is friendly. The cafe is a bit small but very cute. It has a very strong smell inside.

Google
Such a cute spot on main st, good coffee and really good cookies! Some of the best in Vancouver! It has a great atmosphere and vintage vibe and outdoor tables perfect for summer and hotter weather. A must go when on main st this summer!

Google
I loved my experience at this small and cute cafe! They blocked off a part of the road for outdoor seating and the interior is very well decorated and cozy. The server was also very friendly and helpful. We got the baguette and iced latte and sat down to enjoy the day. I just wish I brought my book with me! I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a cute cafe to hang out and drink delicious coffee.

Google
What a lovely café! I had their decaf oat latte and red velvet Nutella cookie. The decaf latte had a bit of acidity, which isn't to my liking, but I really enjoyed their red velvet cookie. I liked that It was a little soft and not too sweet. The atmosphere was very cute. I had a really good time with my friend here X)

Google
I love coming here! The cappuccinos are delicious, as are the baked goods. There is a warm cosiness about this place which can be lacking in some of the more minimalist cafes in the area, making it an ideal spot to unwind or catch up with a friend. I've always found the baristas to be welcoming too- their friendliness is always appreciated

Google
Liberty Bakery + Cafe is a nice little coffee shop on Main Street. The coffee was good, and the croissant was tasty and fresh. It’s a cozy place, but the seating could be more comfortable. The chairs are a bit hard, so adding cushions or padded seats would make a big difference. It’s fine for a quick stop, but not the best if you want to sit for a long time. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant. Overall, it is a good spot for coffee and a quick bite, just not the most comfortable for extended seating.

Yelp
Liberty Bakery is a gem for anyone who appreciates great baked goods and an inviting atmosphere. Their sourdough is truly exceptional--perfectly crusty on the outside, with a chewy, flavorful interior that has just the right amount of tang. You can tell they put a lot of care into their process, and it shows in every bite. Whether you're stopping by for a coffee, loaf or exploring their other pastries, you won't be disappointed. Highly recommend! Reggie

Yelp
I can't believe I've never reviewed this place! This is my favorite coffee shop in the summer time. I love their outdoor space. They have nice sandwiches and standard drinks. Friendly service!

Yelp
Had a pain au chocolat to go and visited at around 3pm. It was very busy on the insane and almost every table was taken so I assumed the place is well known and good. The interior is cute and although it's a bit loud because of how crowded it is, I can imagine it would make a good study/work spot. There's also seating on the outside that would be lovely on a nice day. Service was quick and they were very friendly. They make totoro cookies which are adorable. Unfortunately, the pain au chocolat wasn't very good. It is rather cold and not very flavourful. One good thing is that it's nice and crumbly. The picture I put in is around the halfway point and there was no chocolate yet. There were 2 "chocolate chips" on the inside on opposite ends, which I assume is chocolate that has gone so cold it has solidified. I was very disappointed by this purchase.

Yelp
This bakery looked so cute, I had to check it out while in the area. It's kinda small but has a pretty good assortment of savory and sweet items. I ordered a savory danish, sweet danish, and orange fennel cake to go. They were all delicious! The pastries were flaky and well-balanced. My favorite was the cake, which had a more unique flavor. Service was friendly. The sandwiches looked good, I'd love to try those next time.

Yelp
Cool neighbourhood coffee shop with some sandwiches and baked items, including some vegan options. They usually have a rotating vegan sandwich. On this visit, they had a Veggie Focaccia ($13.50) with hummus, pesto, tapenade, roasted peppers and arugula. I also got their soup of the day (a vegan zucchini; $6/cup or $9/bowl). Honestly, the sandwich was not too great -- small, pretty light on the fillings, overly salty and not great value. The soup was pretty bland too. Based on this sampling, I wouldn't return. Foglifter has much better vegan options across the street.

Yelp
Chic, rustic interior with charm. There is not a lot of seating, so it might be a challenge when it gets busy. There's a step on the floor from the front of the shop to the back area, which is where you order. Watch your step! The jalapeño twist was incredible - flake, buttery, cheesy, with a hint of heat. Highly recommended. The vegan apple pie was good but not memorable. The best thing about it is that it's not overwhelmingly sweet. Our mocha was delicious but a little small for the price.

Yelp
Cute little cafe on Main Street. There's a small amount of seating within the shop itself and outside there are picnic benches just on the side street. I got a cappuccino to go and thought that it was okay, but nothing that special. I also got a scone that they warmed up which was not bad. They also had some cute Totoro cookies which were quite photogenic but looked a bit too sweet for me with the icing.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this 'gem' as I was in need of caffeine. Came in and waited in line. Just one person ahead of me. I was busy on my phone and lost track of time then soon realized wait... it has been TEN minutes and the person in front is still ordering? Turns out she is having a full blown convo with the barista about what bread to have with dinner. Tf? They in chefs table or something? Just chatting away. I gave the barista one of those "hurry up" stare. The type your wife gives you when she wants to get the fuck outta your parent's dinner party. He just gave me a nod as if it's cool, you can join in our debate if garlic bread goes ok with a Malbec. Hurry the hell up! Nope they kept chatting. Now the line has queued with 4 people. We all staring wondering if these two will get a room and bread stuff each other. I stood in line for 5 more mins then left as the convo was nowhere close to ending. 15+ minute wait to order a coffee. If your cafe workers need excuse to not work, this is it.

Yelp
The service here was friendly and the food was good :) I liked the rustic decor and there was some nice outdoor seating as well which was nice! I found the atmosphere to be a louder one, nothing obnoxious and not in a bad way just not the type of cafe you go to study or work. Overall nice place :)

Yelp
Visited this cafe specifically for the Totoro cookies and they did not disappoint. There was only 1 cookie left in the display at around 11am on a Sunday and I'm not sure if it really was the last one, but maybe go earlier to be safe :) The cafe feels quite old but the decorations are very pretty and we were able to sit at a pink table. There's not a lot of seating and there were some tables occupied by customers on their laptops which was a little bit annoying. The space didn't feel large enough or free enough for people to do work in. Other than that, don't really have any complaints. Although it would be nice if there were other pretty cookies besides the Totoro one; it seemed quite out of place amongst all the other baked goods.

Pete K.

Yelp
I was told by the locals this was the place to go. The coffee was excellent. The seating was limited, but there are tables outside to sit at. The only knock I have against it is it lacks a cool factor.

Yelp
I've been here for twice already. My first visit was last Saturday (June 27th) on my commute to work. Totoro cookie and Latte were fantastic. Totoro cookie was pretty yummy. It's gingerbread cookie flavoured cookie in Totoro shape. It's a must try! Latte was great! My second visit was earlier today. I wanted some sweets and coffee so I ordered Lemon Loaf ($2.95) and Macchiato ($3) to go. Because I work on Main St it was nice getting some discount, yay! Lemon Loaf was great; however, I was disappointed in the size of Macchiato it was about espresso shot size. Staff kindly explained that I'll get regular size if I ordered Americano or Latte. Their Macchiato isn't same as the ones from Starbucks, boo! I really wanted to give 4 stars and because my Macchiato wasn't cheap I'm giving 3 stars. Great vibes and cool paintings. Cookies and pastries won me over. I just wish the menu clearly stated if it's short, tall or medium or by ounces. It was great experience here though.

Yelp
A group of us were looking to get some coffee the evening of 11/9 and happened by Liberty. It was probably 5:50p and they closed at 6, so they didn't look particularly happy to see us when we walked in but they still provided good customer service. They quickly took our orders, dispatched baked goods to those of us who had ordered them, and set about making our drinks. My order consisted of a latte and lemon loaf. The latte was pretty standard, but the lemon loaf was absolutely amazing! I honestly would have eaten the whole thing! The atmosphere of the space was cute, quaint. It's a type of place where you could study, meet friends, or just chill out. It would be cool if they stayed open later however. Overall, good experience and I'd go back just for that lemon loaf next time I'm in Vancouver.

Yelp
Based on the reviews, I was looking forward to something sweet. Either my timing was off, or the variety of sweets available was really limited and not very appetizing. I settled for a dulce de leche brownie and a flat white. The flat white was not that great but was the usual Vancouver's standard (i.e. not very good when compared to Australia). I really wish all baristas in Vancouver will learn how to make a good flat white, with the ratio of microfoam and crema etc. The brownie was not bad but not that wow either. The cookies looked very cute though. The cafe was full when I was there but it did not really have a friendly or cozy vibe. This is not a place to make a special trip for.

Yelp
Such a cute little coffee shop! Right on Main with a lot of seating outside. The weather might not be ideal right now but the options are available. The restroom is open for guests. Coffee was delicious. They always have good baked goods as well. Recommend!

Someone S.

Yelp
BEST bakery in town. They have loaves of sourdough bread for sale now! It's delicious. Gives any sourdough in the city a run for its money.

Yelp
Liberty Bakery and Cafe is a definite stop when on Main Street. I love the warmth and sweet smell when you first walk through the door. I'm especially happy that there is outdoor seating because I can bring my pup along. The staff are great because they will fill up a bowl for your dog. The location is good too because you can relax with a warm cup and people watch. We ordered lattes which were prepared well, just the right amount of foam. I love milk which is probably why I enjoy lattes and Liberty does it right. I can taste the coffee and the milk. We also ordered their lemon loaf and we were NOT disappointed, when they say lemon, they mean it! You can taste the citrus in EVERY bite! It paired quite nicely with our lattes.

Yelp
Pleasant, spacious coffee shop with lots of natural light. The staff was very nice. I had a cup of black bean soup, dulce de leche brownie, and a rooibos tea. Bean soup had a dollop of chimichurri that gave it a nice kick and was filling despite being a smaller portion (they also have a bowl size available). I also liked the tortilla crisp that came with it. The brownie was fantastic, with swirls of dulce de leche flavour and a little bit of salt. They're priced very reasonably as well.

Yelp
Tell the guy with the cowboy hat to get a bigger one, I want to see that shit from down the street!!
google avatar

Yelp
Really cute spot. Wall decor and rugs on the floor made it feel really homey. Had a croissant and an iced americano and was surprised how great the croissant was - almost perfect! Coffee was fine but not amazing. Service was friendly and quick. Will definitely come back here again!
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
Decent coffee which was sort of ruined by a negative atmosphere - Noticed staff yelling and being kurt with eachother and customers. A bit creepy and weird

Alexandra T.

Yelp
I have visited this coffee shop many times, but it appears to be changing in regards to customer service. Lately, it seems like a group of friends work at this cafe. I think that is fine for a work environment but when you are trying to order a coffee and you are being ignored because they are talking with their friends behind the counter, and their friends visiting at their work, it can come off as quite rude. Additionally, I was not helped until the conversation was coming to a close -- and to boot, my order was heard wrong because their minds were clearly elsewhere. Overall, some refocus needs to take place and customers need to be acknowledged when ordering a coffee and spending money at this establishment. It looks bad otherwise on their customer service.
google avatar

Yelp
(Migrating old reviews from my account on another review site to here) Went here today for a quick pre-dinner snack. Got their princess cake (the raspberry curd inside is delicious), and a Totoro cookie. Pleasantly surprised that the cookie was gingerbread! I love gingerbread and am usually sad that it's hard to find outside of the Christmas season. I also wanted an iced chocolate since it was hot out today. They didn't quite have it but said they'd make me one. It didn't taste that great and the dark chocolate and the cold milk kind of separated after a while, but that's on me. It was really nice of them try making it for me!
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely coming back here again! It's a nice and cozy corner cafe where you can study, work or to sit and have a nice chat with someone. They have wifi too which is a plus! The staff are nice too!!! The pastries (both savoury and sweet options!!!) are delicious!!!! You should definitely try the pizza bread and the vegan blueberry muffin! Or any other pastry really cuz they're all so delicious!

Yelp
"Liberty is a family-friendly Nordic bakery, using fresh local ingredients. Designed by artists, Liberty's elegant and homey décor is as perfect for a coffee date with friends as for a family lunch. Open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week." The reason I am giving a one star review is because they were not friendly at all. I did some research the night before and was looking forward to coming early, and studying while enjoying a breakfast sandwich and some coffee. Where did my expectations for a breakfast sandwich and coffee come from? Just like anyone else, from looking at the menu, of course. So I ordered said breakfast sandwich, and I was rewarded with a curt, rude, response. "We don't have breakfast sandwiches." So I showed him the menu online. Which I guess he felt should be met by another curt response full of attitude "We don't serve sandwiches until lunch." If I were him I would have apologized and gave an explanation for the inaccuracy. So then I said, well I guess the website should be updated then. To which he replied "Yea."

Marina B.

Yelp
This bakery/cafe is a pretty cute spot. The baked goods are decent and the coffee is good but what I usually come here for are the cookies! The salted chocolate chip. They are probably my favourite in the city. But yesterday I picked up 6 of them and I literally threw in the trash because they were so stale. I wouldn't even pay half price for day olds, so selling it for regular price and then getting it home and biting into something stale is just really disappointing and makes me not want to come back to a place because I hate questioning how fresh the food is going to be.
google avatar

Martin L.

Yelp
Their totoro cookies are scrumptious and so adorable! I love going to Liberty just for these sweet treats!
google avatar

Rick C.

Yelp
Liberty Bakery & Cafe continues to be a charming little destinations for well-baked of treats and coffee on the neighbourhood corner of 21st and Main. As for what to eat and drink, there are many pleasing combinations of caffeinated drinks and snacks to enjoy. I recommend a crisp latte and jalapeño croissant for a satisfying contrast of flavours. Or perhaps a cinnamon roll and make that latte iced for your delightful midday break. Liberty screams corner coffee shop with its hip, pleasing vibes and homemade feel to its decor inside out and all-around.

Nicki C.

Yelp
Broken toilet won't flush. The staff would not believe it or take a look, insisted that I was flushing incorrectly. The toilet seat isn't hinged properly. Other woes? No WiFi. Peeling paint. Sadly the liquid soap is watered down. As for the food, no salads. Limited cold beverages. One soup only and the same soup. Gordon Ramsey needs to visit and do a makeover.
google avatar

Josy A.

Yelp
This is the kind of cafe that I normally love. Small, independent and plenty of reviews that say they are friendly. My husband and I popped in for some lunch and, well, I hate to say it, but it just wasn't that good. My husband said the coffee was pretty bad. I wanted to order juice, but they had run out. We tried a grilled cheese sandwich and a quiche. The quiche was pretty good but very small. The grilled sandwich might be the least impressive sandwich I've tried in Canada. It was bland very oily and came with a tomato dip that managed to have no flavour(!) How can you fail to find flavour in tomatoes!? I don't think I'll be back even though we live a few minutes walk away.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
5 stars because the totoro cookie was adorable and delicious! The cutest gingerbread cookie and was soft and chewy. Got a really refreshing ice coffee (Elysian coffee -- one of my favourite). Loved the decor and ambiance.
google avatar

Glen M.

Yelp
This is the coolest little place! The older building and the seating space is so nice I want to go back again soon. For lunch we both had the classic grilled cheese with a black bean soup (I've never had black bean soup before) and it was delicious. Perfect portion for lunch. The home made ketchup was perfect for dipping. The paintings on the white walls were very cool, all portraits. I want to eat there again just to do a photo shoot.
google avatar

Jacqueline H.

Yelp
Cutest cafe, want to come back and try more treats. Def get the Totoro cookie, it is a soft gingerbreak, and it's as good as it is cute! I bought 2 more on our way out to bring to my cousins, who loved them as well :)
google avatar

Tiffany G.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop, stopped in here on a rainy day while shopping. They have little bites and few basic cafe dishes like soup and grilled cheese. I had the peppermint tea coffee pot, delicious on a cold day! Random, but they also have really great organic and fantastic smelling soap in the bathroom. Wifi is also available.
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
I can't believe I never noticed this bakery before. It was a cold morning and the word panini and soup caught my eye. My husband and I walked into Liberty and the first thing we noticed that it was packed. The line-up was almost to the door and all the seats were taken already. Luckily a couple left after we ordered our food. We both ordered the panini and soup combo for $7 each. I had the pesto turkey and he had the ham and cheese. They were good, but a little on the small side. We both ordered the minestrone soup and I enjoyed the soup very much. It was flavorful and warmed me right up. They also advertise that all their soup is vegan. I'll definitely try their pastries next time.
google avatar

Shirley L.

Yelp
It is a pretty cute cafe, but unfortunately my first visit here was a little underwhelming. I'd seen some pictures on Instagram of some delicious looking cakes (I believe they are called princess cakes?) but the overall selection of baked goods when I arrived was a little bit lacking (although perhaps that was also my own fault, for arriving an hour and a half before closing time) and they didn't have any princess cakes at all. I did manage to snag the last Totoro cookie though, which was tasty (it's gingerbread) and a small pot of tea. The genmai cha is fantastic, with a strong roasted flavour, and the teapot is adorable with its little knitted tea cozy. The server working there was a little brusque and overall seemed pretty unenthused to be working there, which kind of took away from the experience. But the decor is lovely, bright, and cheerful.
google avatar

Lawrence L.

Yelp
Hipsterish looking space, pretentious looking clientele (one girl literally wore a beret)...if only their coffee matched to justify it all. The cappucino I got looked terrible and tasted it too. Short of expectations for Main St
google avatar

Chaoyang L.

Yelp
smells so good the moment you pass by! nice place in hipster city with natural lighting and limited seating. i ordered a cappuccino with almond milk, but i got whole milk instead so i took off a star. :( drinks are served in beautiful pottery. their cookies are delicious, although pricey. come here for the 'gram but not for coffee...?
google avatar

Kat F.

Yelp
The space is adorable, my daughter enjoyed her sandwich and I enjoyed my coffee .I had a "stockholm" not sure what that is exactly and i guess i had imagined one thing and got another so I will have to return and try something else. Great place to watch Main street go by.
google avatar

Chris O.

Yelp
I first went to Liberty about a year and a half ago and was not really that impressed. However, in the past three weeks I've gone back three times. Why? Great baked goods. We had their cinnamon buns twice, a cheese and onion scone which was just perfectly made, and a caramel brownie as well as a couple of their chocolate chip cookies. The pricing is excellent for the quality. At least a dollar or more below what some of the other bakeries nearby charge. The staff could be a little more engaged and friendly when serving.
google avatar

Paris S.

Yelp
Such a cute little bakery and café. The food you can purchase is pretty standard items you would see in a bakery but most of them had interesting twists. It's not often I would go for a croissant with jalapeños but it might be a game changer. The staff seemed a little distracted on my last visit as it was quite busy so I won't fault them for that. There's definitely a family vibe inside as there were lots of kids and families eating and playing. So if you're looking for a nice hungover breakfast cinnamon bun, maybe wait until a little later as it can get a little loud. I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in the area.
google avatar

Lara O.

Yelp
Nice barista and cashier, pretty pasteries and the americano was perfection. The semla was so tasty! Nice window spot for people watching as you enjoy your drink. I really liked their huge pottery style mugs. It is a little hipstery looking in here, but I give props to any coffee shop that hangs art that wasn't purchased at Ikea. I appreciate the nice white walls and minimal decor :)
google avatar

Julie R.

Yelp
So happy I found this place while walking on Main! It was really quiet on a Tuesday afternoon, and music was mostly Jazzy like - not really my cup of tea but if you have some work to be done, this is the place. The barista/cashier was also very... well let's say she had her own pace, but she was nice, specially when we chit chat quickly, which is what matters the most. Anyway, I had a very yummy and tender cookie sandwich, made of Valhrona chocolate cream between two vanilla bean shortbreads. These was a bit too tender to my liking, but it was nonetheless good! However at nearly $3, I'd wish it was bigger (as for everything else there). My almond coffee latte (+ $0,75 for soy or almond milk: rawrrr! $4,75 in total), was ok, nothing outstanding. It was served in a nice terra cotta cup. The inside of the shop is very white. The colored tables bring a nice punchy touch and some modernism among the vintage paintings. Going back? Oh yeah!
google avatar

Chloe D.

Yelp
I thought I'd try out this cafe and don't think I'll be returning. Ordered a latte; served a very weak coffee which tasted like drip coffee with milk. Staff weren't friendly. Disappointed as the cafe looks lovely.

Hana G.

Yelp
Please do not blame your costumer when you made mistakes to take the order. The barista wearing glasses with hat has an attitude problem. I really liked this cafe but I don't think I'm returning there.

Jordan S.

Yelp
Stopped by for the first time today. Had a latte and my wife and I split a scone and chocolate croissant. They were delicious. Coffee was great as well I would have given this place 5 stars but they lost a star on friendliness. A simple smile by the cashier and barista would have gone a long way. Not even a thank you or have a nice day on their end. Will try one more time to see if they can at least flash a smile.
google avatar

Nuha A.

Yelp
I was excited to see Liberty back but, was quickly disappointed. Not the same flavourful authentic food. Reopening an establishment and naming it the same without maintaining the level of quality expected by regulars is deceptive. Will not be returning.
google avatar

Joseph H.

Yelp
Coffee was amazing. I loved the interior, and the service. The barista actually brought out the coffee and food! I don't think that's ever happened to me before in Vancouver. Usually, the coffee just sits on the counter until someone claims it or steals it. No air conditioning though, so it gets quite warm inside during the summer months. The chairs and tables outside are comfortable to sit on and muse while watching the main street traffic and passerbys. It reminds me of how Commercial Drive used to be like before tourists and hipsters took it over.
google avatar

Foufikins C.

Yelp
Poor experience. I have to agree with other reviewers that the service is bad here. They are unfriendly and would not readily give us glasses of water after we'd just spent over $40 on food. I will not come back and don't recommend.
