My 4 Favorite Hostels in Boston (Updated 2025)

"Available from June through September, the Liberty Fleet offers a unique stay aboard the wooden three-mast Liberty Clipper with cozy, small cabins — towels and linens are included and hot water is plentiful. There is no Wi-Fi and guests need to leave the ship during the day, but the experience is unlike anything else in Boston and is especially well suited to couples and families looking for something different. If you want a super-unique accommodation rather than standard hostel amenities, this is hard to beat." - Matthew Kepnes

Captain Fredo, Grace and Max were phenomenal. They made our experience seeing the USS Constitution so memorable for the 4th of July. We went sailing afterwards which was a blast. I highly recommend booking them for sailing. You won’t regret it.

Google
We had such an amazing time on our trip to Boston! We were celebrating our 13 year wedding anniversary and decided we wanted to go sailing, it was our first time ever experiencing something like this and we can’t wait to do it again! The crew was fantastic, very friendly and informative I highly recommended!!! They also have drinks and snacks for a reasonable price.

Todd S.

Google
A great experience! We enjoyed the 1-1/2 hours of sailing Boston harbor. Friendly staff too. What a way to wrap up our Boston vacation.

Ed K.

Google
What a great experience. Our captain (Fredo) and his crew were incredibly fun and entertaining. I’d recommend a harbor cruise on Liberty Star to anyone visiting Boston or to any local like us just looking for something different on a night out!

Randy P.

Google
Fantastic sundown cruise of Boston Harbor, just beautiful. Excellent crew and very interesting guests aboard our cruise. Careful! They do a very generous sailor's pour for their mixed drinks.

Mrs Sandy J.

Google
Fredo, Kyle, & Grace were fun! Geat drinks, sunshine, and wind in our hair. It was a highlight of our time in Boston!

Kim M.

Google
Highly recommend! My family rode the Lady Clipper today, captained by Tom, aka Santa! The entire crew was so down to earth and personable. They shared their expertise of sailing with us as well as stories about their past sailing adventures. We just may be seeing them on a future Bahamas sail! Thanks for an amazing two hours! -The Benders from Long Island, NY

Google
Overall, it was a matter of expectations. The crew was hard working and engaging. We thought it would be more educational and less "booze cruise" vibes. Also good to know that if at capacity, not everyone is getting a seat (yes, I realize people roam while aboard).

Yelp
Summer break trip to Boston and of course we had to try the tall ship cruise by the Boston harbor. This is a 1.5 hours time cruising out into the harbor...passing the airport, terminal, Castle Island, and around the Spectacle Island. We went for the late afternoon time slot because it rained a little bit in the morning. Luckily no more rain in late afternoon and while the weather was cool and cloudy, we still enjoyed the ride. Nice view and relaxing. Our boat wasn't packed with people so I think that also made a difference where folks were spread out sitting around the tall ship. The captain and 2 crews were professional and friendly. They offered a complimentary drink if you would like one. Note that this is not a historical tour. But if you want a relaxing ride to enjoy the harbor view, give them a try.

Yelp
Relaxing time sailing on the harbor! Crew was friendly and the weather was perfect! Pastries from Flour were provided.

Yelp
We had a group of 4 people. Fortunately, we lined up early to board so we were able to sit. Unfortunately, the boat doesn't have seats for everyone so people had to stand for the 2.5 hours. The distance we traveled was not too much so overall we wouldn't recommend as we were expecting to leave the harbor area.

Yelp
Awesome sail! The captain was great and I loved Mr Schwab, his adorable dog. The sail was fun and it was great seeing Boston from another view. They served a few cocktails and beer aboard as well. I'd definitely recommend booking this sail on the tall ship!

Yelp
Our family of 6 loved our harbor sail. The crew was fantastic and answered all our questions. This was a perfect afternoon excursion on a hot summer day.

Yelp
I took my family of four on the 1.5 hour trip which was a perfect time. The staff communicated great and were easy going with safety in mind. It was a good learning experience allowing a different perspective of Boston.

Yelp
Fantastic way to cruise the harbor, ship and crew were all great, our cruise was sold out but still had plenty of room for a pleasant cruise. Great drink options available as well.

Yelp
If you value your safety and comfort do not go on the Liberty Clipper Caribbean cruise. The vessel and practices on board are more suited for day sailing around a harbor but not a live aboard voyage. When looking at review ratings for this vessel in Trip Advisor notice should be taken if they are for day sailing or the week long Caribbean cruise. There is only one rating for the vessel, day sailing and living aboard are not divided. I went on the Liberty Clipper Caribbean cruise in April 2022 I have been on two other one week sailing cruises prior to this, both were on schooners as is the Liberty Clipper and both with the same capacity of passengers and crew. My experience therefore is comparable. I am a registered PADI rescue diver and as such am trained on safety procedures on the surface and under water. Bullet points:- - Practices and some equipment on board were not safe - Dingy was missing the sail and inoperable all summer 2022 - Crew were apathetic SAFETY None of the crew were trained in first aid, indeed during orientation any passengers with medical training were asked to identify themselves. Snorkelers were allowed to enter an area where power boats were crossing at speed. The snorkelers were not given any safety marking flag or buoy to alert craft of their position. When I asked for such a marker I was told they had none but still the crew let snorklers enter the water. During the orientation passengers are instructed to stay clear of specific areas where ropes and tackle move during the vessels maneuvers, it is possible however for loose ropes to move outside some of these areas. No audible warning (about to jibe) was given before such a maneuver. My friend was knocked out of his chair by loose ropes when outside the designated area. The first mate witnessed this but said and did nothing. Steep step ladders have a single hand rail. On the first day one passenger fell down one of the ladders. Access to the small rubber boat (tender) which takes you ashore was provided by a rope ladder over the side of the ship. This ladder had no stand offs to keep it away from the hull of the ship making it easy to jam a foot between a ladder rung and the ships hull. This happened on more than one occasion. The fire extinguisher in the salon has the instruction label obliterated and is illegible. Photo attached. COMFORT/CONVENIENCE There are not enough chairs on board for a full compliment of passengers (24), the only other seating on deck are lockers, so no cushions, arm or back support. The cabins smelled of sewage all week long. In the shared shower of cabins 9 & 11 there was no ventilation fan or vent hatch, only a 4 inch hole covered by a fine grill. This makes an air freshener imperative! The hot water heater is loud & runs 6:00 AM, twice it ran all night. There is no suggestion box, the captain said suggestions should be verbally given to him, however he was not open to them. The single power outlet in the cabin was at the furthest point away from the pillow of the beds making it necessary for a long charging cable (10 feet) if a phone/tablet is to be used while charging. More importantly if both fans, one for each bunk, are used there is no place to plug anything else in. Dingy: no sail and inoperable all summer. I had purchased the drink package at a cost of $175. The company states it will try to provide a preferred choice of alcohol if requested. I was given written confirmation my request was available and promised this would be on board. This was not the case, only a local Bahamian brand of lesser quality was available. Beer and sodas were available in coolers on deck whilst liquor was in the salon (lounge) below deck. If you want to make a mixed drink with soda from the bar you must pick up the soda on deck as there are no sodas in the salon. The crew are instructed to make alcoholic drinks for passengers, however if there are no crew around and you want a drink you are not allowed to make it yourself. This became a point of contention as it meant going up on deck to find a crew member and going back down to have the drink. ENTERTAINMENT There was no music for passengers the entire week. The on board music system was broken and the wireless speakers on board would not Bluetooth link to phones. There were some games on board and DVD movies. I and another passenger asked 3 times if we could see a particular DVD they had on the return day sail but it never happened. My impression is NONE of the crew cared. MEALS The food is basic, the highlight of the week was salmon with teriyaki sauce. Snacks were stale and sell by date was exceeded, example is given in photo taken 4/15/2022, the Sell by by date being 4/9/2022.

Yelp
Fun afternoon on the water with a fantastic crew. I was in town for the weekend and daughter found this delightful charter. It's a medium size boat with about 20 guests and @ 4 crew members. It's a great experience for the whole family. It's interactive they let guests raise the sails. Also with your ticket you get a complimentary beverage to enjoy while cruising around. It was simply breathtaking and all the guests get along really well on the @ 1.5 hour voyage. I definitely recommend it. It's a great way to enjoy the waterfront and see Boston.

Yelp
We thought we purchased a "sailing" cruise in the bahamas, it was a motor tour. We were advised they cant shut off the engine or water, electricity plus other things wouldnt work. All of our days and nights were spent listening to and smelling the diesel exhaust. Which was actually better than the horrific urine/feces smell that was constant in the cabins because the holding tanks leak. Not once were we offered to use the kayaks, paddle boards, small sailing dinghy that they advertise. The cabins were tolerable sleeping when we were motoring or off-shore but the nights we spent tied to a dock it was unbearbly hot. The food was nothing to write home about, no choices on what you eat. Whatever is made thats what you get. Lunch one afternoon HOT tomato soup and grilled cheese not what I expect on a boat in the bahamas on a hot afternoon. The crew did everything they could to accommodate us with what they had to work with. The ice machine was broken. At a port they bought some ice but it did not last. So we had warm cocktails and warm beer. No music on the boat until a crew member let us use his personal speaker one evening. It all wasnt bad we did see some beautiful places, the water was magnificent, we met some great people.

Yelp
We had a great and fun sail! The staff were incredible. Friendly, funny, etc. They even offered to grab drinks for us, were happy to chat, etc. And you could wander the whole ship and check out what's below deck too. The one downside was how crowded it was. It made it incredibly difficult to navigate to the bar area or really anywhere on the ship. I know they need to make money, but cutting the number onboard would have made for an even better experience. Overall, I'd definitely recommend. It's need to be on a tall ship and see the sails go up and whatnot. It feels like a more authentic experience.

Yelp
It was a real treat to go for a 1.5 hour midday sail on the Liberty Star! The very knowledgeable, experienced crew raised all 4 sails in the fresh harbor breezes and cut the engine. Heaven. Especially because the temperature on the harbor was a good 15 degrees F lower than the Boston heat. Only wish it could have been 2 or more hours instead of 1.5.

Yelp
Absolutely enjoyed our time on the clipper! Captain Ron was engaging and explained the various mechanics of the ship. We did the sunset cruise and we're lucky enough to see fireworks over the harbor. The views of the skyline were spectacular and a must see.

Yelp
Cruised Boston harbor on the Liberty Star. A pretty disappointing sunset cruise leaving from Boston's Fan Pier area, later than stated departure time. Highlights were: following Logan Airports runway, Massport's container terminal, then making multiple circles adjacent to Castle Island before returning at twilight (distance from start to Castle Island: 2 miles). Captain and sketchy crew left us wondering "huh"? The moment you step on board you're immediately handed an alcoholic beverage menu and they really push to purchase drinks (at airline prices). Website mentions no personal beverages allowed. Note: 1st week of Sept cruise so dress warmly as temp and wind-chill felt like 48°. They should consider serving hot beverages.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my 80th Birthday Celebration aboard the Liberty Clipper in December 2022 from Nassau Bahamas to several islands and back. Captain, food and entire crew were all just great to talk and sail with. Weather, island visits and hikes, snorkeling and sailing a Tall Ship exceeded my expectations every day!!! Sincerely, A happy Sailor and Explorer, Ned

Yelp
We were a little worried this would be a cheesy tourist trap. Don't let the area fool you. It was a beautiful cruise around the Boston bay. We had a great time. They have drinks on board for purchase, prepay card or cash on board. They went full sail once we left the harbor. Crew was professional and fun, letting you help pull up the sails. If you're looking for a historical tour, this isn't for you. If you're looking to enjoy time on a sailboat and relax it's perfect. My wife and I had a lot of fun.

Yelp
I highly recommend Liberty's sunset cruise! My boyfriend and I went on the perfect night - it was sunny, blue skies and about 80 degrees. We walked on the boat in masks and were able to take them off once seated. Everything felt extremely clean and safe. I'd say the boat fit about 40 people. The staff was so friendly - they had great personalities but allowed you to relax and do your thing which was MUCH appreciated. This was not a guided tour - my boyfriend and I sat back, watched the sunset and were able to talk to one another and soak in the scenery. The sunset really was so beautiful, and we saw the absolute best views of Boston Harbor. They also had a bar which was wonderful throughout our trip. Do yourself a favor and book a cruise with Liberty!

Yelp
DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$$ Sailed on the Liberty Clipper during the first week of May and have many of the same negative complaints as several previous reviews here. It remains a dirty, old, smelly ship in dire need of a major renovation and is being sailed by a undermanned & inexperienced crew. Don't fall for the lie on the website of "sailing from mid-morning to mid-afternoon". We departed at 0400 on Monday and didn't drop anchor off Eleuthera until 1600. Then we wasted an hour watching the few experienced hands onboard coach the rest of the crew on lowering and stowing the sails before we were ferried ashore in a tiny dinghy that could only hold 5 people. On Friday the ship got underway at 0630 then dropped anchor near Nassau at 1700 where we sat for 3 hours waiting to catch the in going tide. While we waited we we allowed to swim off the ship while the joke of a "Captain's Meal" was prepared - chicken breast with gravy and a large tray of stuffing and no dessert. You will not awake to sound of waves lapping against the hull because they are drowned out by the ship's generator which ran continuously for 5 days to keep the ship's electrical system powered. The stench of the leaking sewage holding tanks made being below deck unbearable on several days of the trip. My biggest complaint was the fact we made it clear in our reservation and even called and confirmed that pescatarian, dairy & gluten-free meals would be provided for my wife. When we arrived Sunday the ship's cook told us she didn't get the word about my wife's dietary needs. As a result my wife ate only eggs, salad, veggies, & fruits except for gluten-free pasta served with ONE meal. As far as the pescatarian meals we requested she got ONE meal with a shrimp gumbo (that she had to pick out around sausage) the entire week. You'd think that there would be seafood served on a ship on the ocean but we were told the freezer was broken so it wasn't available. I requested a $500 credit for my wife's lack of food but was only refunded $350...less than 10% of our fare. $200 for an open bar was a joke as well. Other than a few pitchers of boat drinks served up on a few occasions we were told to help ourselves to the cheap beer in the on-deck cooler or the "bottom shelf" liquor in the salon. As far as wine goes one our fellow passengers kept getting the run-around from the crew to find a new bottle every time she needed a new one opened. One couple on the cruise sailed on the Clipper over 10 years ago and regretted coming back due to the poor condition of the ship and the marginal food and beverage service. All in all it seems like the company is maximizing profits by minimizing investment into the ship, crew, and meals until it winds up in the scrapyard.

Yelp
I just want to state that the actual sail was 5 stars. The crew was amazing. This is about management. DO NOT BUY A GROUPON for this. Management used this to it's advantage and made me pay full-price for my friend to ride EVEN THOUGH WE ALREADY PAID. I came from NH and was told they were only honoring 1 groupon. I bought a Groupon for 2, so only 1 redemption code was included. When I tried to book online, it asked for 2 redemption codes, which was confusing because the Groupon only came w/ 1 for 2 passengers. It wouldn't let me check out. At no point did it state that it was because they only accept a certain amount of Groupons per ship (which they told me when I appeared in person), which you think they would state, as they were sold in packs of 2. It came off like a technical error. Finally, I was able to get it through...I get there and they refuse to let my friend on unless I paid. So I had to pay $46 to let her on, or have her come for nothing. Unbelievable. I emailed them to let them know what happened, and you'd think, since they were super unclear on their website, they would refund me. Nope. Couldn't let that pass. So they made even more money. Save your money- sail with another company. Ruined my sail.

Yelp
There's a reason pictures of the cabins are not shown. Seriously uncomfortable and smelly. 12 people/6 cabins share one bathroom/shower which is essentially a portapotty with a shower head. Captain Noah was super friendly, staff was great. Accommodations are not at all accommodating. We received four towels and four washcloths for two people for a once week cruise. Same sheets stay on the bed for the entire week. No cleaning except the toilets. The cooks were nice, but the kitchen was swarming with flies. There were old hot, scratchy wool blankets on the beds in the Bahamas. No air conditioning, no air moving. Only nightlight type lighting in the cabins. Eating is done in a room right over the motor and its hot. There's no escaping the mosquitos, heat, or stench of the toilets. We literally wrapped a blanket around the sink pipe to keep the smell down bc it was keeping us awake. For the same price we could have taken an Alaskan Cruise. Don't stay on this ship. Day cruise in cool weather, sure - if you are able bodied and can climb up and down the ladder to the bathroom. Don't take elders. It's not safe.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are visiting Boston from southern CA and taking a harbor cruise was recommended to us. I am so glad we went with Liberty Fleet! The captain and his crew were incredible! They not only guided us safely through the harbor on a traditional wooden Schooner but they had plenty of fun stories to share with us and were hilarious. The sunset we saw was on point and they even had a special surprise to show us on our ride! There was an open bar... and when I mean open bar Alan did not let our cups see the bottom! This was truly a trip and experience we will remember forever and It's worth every penny! Thank you! Special tip: if you order the dark and stormy make sure to stir it!

Yelp
Incredible harbor experience compared to all the other boats leaving the pier. Authentic tall ship with an authentic crew and historian. Learned so much about Boston history with lots of fun at the same time. Thanks for your expertise and courtesy!

Yelp
For my fathers 70th birthday our family booked a Sunset sail for October 2nd. We brought a huge group. 12 people. Which was most of the charter. We were arriving 5 mins late and called to say so. No one answered as we called repeatedly so we ran from the parking lot. My sister in law had told us it was at Rowe's Wharf not the Aquarium so we ran another 5 mins in confusion. When we got there a woman was packing up the booth and ignoring our calls until I ran toward her while my sister in law walked and called behind me. She answered at that point and told us the boat had left. I explained I was the party calling and tried to get my sister in law to run over and see I made it. The woman at the booth stated no calls had been made to her and we were late so it was our fault. They give a 15min window for boarding before the sail time and if you aren't here they leave exactly at the time of the sail. They don't check on their guests and why would they? She even said I don't know how you can't understand that, it's pretty simple. I asked if there was anyone onboard since we would've been most of the people. She said well you don't see the ship now do you? I took that as her stating she sent everyone home and they just left and sent staff home. It was overcast and cold. So we had no choice but to leave. There was no birthday. My father was upset we had traveled into the city with all of these people and the boat just left, who does that? It never answered the phones, it never called to check on our party, it just left. It supposedly holds a max of 20 according to other reviewers. Who leaves with less than half of the people? Who doesn't answer their phone when people are missing/coming? Who can board and leave a dock safely in 15minutes with a private cruise tall ship? We didn't even see it on the horizon. There was just nothing. The customer service is terrible and rude. We were not refunded. My sister in law tried to get a reschedule at least but that didn't happen either they basically said maybe or maybe not, you have to call next week. We stayed nearby and never saw the boat come back but we did see the staff member close the stand lock it and leave for the night. She didn't care at all that this happened. She just wanted to go home. It was ridiculous. Don't go. Or try and you still won't go anyway. Then today we got an email today to post a review and send the company photos of our epic trip. So I was elected to on behalf of our family. I'll post a picture of what we did instead.

Yelp
An excellent way to beat the heat in Boston over the summer. The boat was not overcrowded. The drinks (remember to bring cash or buy drink tickets ahead of time!!!) was cold, crisp, and readily available. The staff was lovely, attentive, but not overbearing. They were approachable but did not overwhelm us with touristy presentations or gimmicky conversation. Lastly, we felt safe aboard the vessel. 10/10 would do it again!

Yelp
We went on the Sunset cruise from 6-8 pm. It was a slightly windy evening and our boat sailed beautifully, although the wind direction made it challenging to get to our destination. Still, it was fun, invigorating and the crew and passengers were friendly. We ordered our tickets online and that worked great--we got an email with instructions to arrive 15-20 minutes ahead of time, which is essential if you want a good seat. The captain was appropriately entertaining as well as clearly in charge, and the bartender was friendly (the drinks were decent, too). I would recommend you wear a jacket! It was a bit chilly even though we went in mid-June. All in all, it was enjoyable and we'd go again.

Molly R.

Yelp
Loved it! Great experience with my mom. The crew is engaging, kind, and very attentive - they run a good sail!

Yelp
This was by far the most disappointing sunset cruise I've experienced. Even though they claimed to be capping it at 50% capacity due to Covid, the boat felt very cramped and unsafe. This vessel has VERY limited seating. I can't even imagine how uncomfortable it would be at 100%. The first 30 minutes or so of the "cruise" was okay with city views and the sunset, the remainder was completely uneventful. After reaching their midpoint in the harbor, we sat in the same location for about an hour floating around. I thought I had paid for a cruise... On the way back, I went to the bar to redeem a couple of my pre-purchased drink tickets for beers and was rudely told that the bar was closed. No last call was ever given. Do yourself a favor, do some research, and go with a different company.

Yelp
We have just returned from our cruise. This was in no way anything that we expected. Did we have fun? Yes...because we made our way, thankfully safe, to two or three islands where we could enjoy cold drinks and good food. Let's start off with "Duration: 7 Days"; Sleeping at the dock on Sunday night, and returning by 5:00 on Friday does not constitute 7 days. Sailing? We "sailed" on the last day...still with the motor running. We basically boarded a boat and enjoyed a noisy engine THE WHOLE TIME...even the three nights (Sunday, Thursday and Friday) that we were docked. Thursday night we were treated to fumes that were unavoidable from the engine. I'm not sure which was worse, the stench from the toilets downstairs, or the fumes upstairs. One day I had to literally hold my nose when I went to our cabin; our hot cabin, stifling hot cabin, when we were sleeping at the docks, as there was no breeze whatsoever. Let's talk about the food. Does it get anymore basic? Hot tomato soup and mildly warm grilled cheese on a summer sail? Yum. A bowl of stew over some rice? Warm milk for the cereal? "Sausages" with the eggs? No one was quite sure what they were made of. The last two days the food did get better. Not sure what happened at the beginning though. Still basic. Beef on our Friday night dinner was good...as we were already tied at the dock in Nassau. At that point we all just wanted to get through the night and get off the boat. Let's talk about ice. Why wasn't the boat stocked with ice??? The first couple of days didn't seem that bad, then it got bad. By the end, the beer was warm, and our "bar" drinks, the ones we paid almost $200 for, were iceless. We did see them trying to bring some ice on the boat, in the dinghy that almost sunk with passengers in it. That was fun. Getting wet because of waves when going ashore was one thing, but when the guy steering the boat is literally IN THE WATER trying to get us ashore, and we are bailing as fast as we can for him, it's not fun. I heard one of the trips ashore was extremely scary the boat was so far down in the water. We had to hitchhike a ride back to the sailboat because the engine wasn't working. And guess what? He had MUSIC on his boat! What a great guy to do that for us. Because we had been just waiting and waiting on the dock with no word. Kayaks? Little sailboat to sail around? Paddleboards? Not even offered. We stopped at a shipwreck in the middle of somewhere. In all of the beautiful islands and places to go snorkeling, this is where we end up? I've snorkeled a lot; this was pitiful as far as snorkeling. We never really did go to anywhere to do real snorkeling. We could have. There was time on the way back, but instead we stopped in the middle of nowhere so we could just jump in the water and get back on the boat, not an easy feat. We went to an island to see the Queen's Bath and hike up to the Glass Window Bridge. The crew brought chairs for us and drinks...the beers were warm because the "cooler" didn't even zip shut. Why aren't they given proper supplies?? We drank what beer there was, and asked for more, and whoever brought it said they brought light beer because that's what they liked. What??? They also brought us some rum punch. There must have been A LOT of rum in it, or something, because at least two of us got so drunk on it (after only two cups) that we were absolutely wasted, to the point of no fun. I even missed whatever meal was served that night. I assure you I can put down some alcohol, and I have no idea what was in that punch, but it was not okay. Let's talk about music. What boat in the bahamas DOES NOT have music????? None. When I asked for it, the crew tried to make it work, but it wouldn't. Boat needs marine speakers that won't corrode. FINALLY one of the crew members let us use their speaker. Luckily we were able to connect to Pandora, as no one had a playlist to use. That was for one night. That was a fun night, because we were drinking all day on the island, and then had some music at night. But as I say, that was only one night. I did however, notice that there was music for the crew in the galley, cooking, and I saw a crew member at the helm with some earbuds jamming away. Music might have helped tone down the noise of that motor we had THE WHOLE TRIP! This boat needs updating. I mean hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of updating. The floors are disgusting, bathroom and hall. There is mold in the showers. Some of the flooring is unstable, will give way soon. You need adequate ice coolers, meat coolers. Whoever owns this boat must just not care, just wants to collect as much money as he or she can; and then what? It's not going to last forever. Oh, the "bar package". What a joke. I had to bring my own tequila, as there wasn't any. No tonic or soda. No limes. No ice.

Yelp
We booked the smaller ship (Star), which has a capacity of 35, and without notice were kicked off the trip so that they could have a private party on the Star. We were put on the way larger boat (Clipper) that takes on almost 3 times as many people. This boat stayed out later, making us miss our dinner reservation. The boat was so much bigger that it didn't feel like a sailboat, and we could have just taken the ferry across the harbor for way less money. If we were being kicked off the trip we booked we should have at least been notified.

Yelp
We had a brilliant time doing this. The crew was great, the other passengers awesome, and no one let a little rain get in the way of the joy. I highly recommend - for tourists and locals alike!

Yelp
Just got back from an awesome day sailing on the Liberty Star. What a beautiful boat. The captain and his crew were fantastic! The kids got to help raise the sails and steer the boat. Just a wonderful experience. Beautiful way to see the city! My family loved our two hour sail. Highly recommend this trip! Thanks to the captain and his crew for a beautiful day on the water!

Yelp
It was an okay ship, cool it be on the Liberty clipper which is from the 18th century. My family and I took a 2 hour tour of the Harbor. Whilst it is always fun to be on a boat it was way overcrowded and not enough seating. Some people were standing for all two hours. Fun having the crew and patrons hoist the sails but not enjoyable to stand the whole time and be so crowded on a boat.

Yelp
We went on the Liberty Clipper in Boston Harbor today. It was so much fun! The crew were fantastic and it was amazing being on one of the Tall Ships. My husband gave it to us as a Christmas present and we have looked forward to this trip for the last 8 months! Totally worth the wait!

Yelp
The trip was really fun and the members of the crew were very friendly and nice. You get to see them setting up the boat and you can even volunteer to help. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because I think it would be more fun if there was a guide talking a little bit about the Boston and the historical buildings and places we could see from the boat. If we could also get some fun facts about the boat and sailing in general, it would make the experience full circle. Great experience, beautiful view but could be more informative.

Yelp
The captain and crew worked very well together what stayed on schedule or very informative of the history around the harbor. Very safe comfortable relaxing cruise would recommend for many people wanting to see the city from the water.

Yelp
Great, chill, and beautiful activity to do in boston!! Very friendly crew & the cuttttesttttt dog on board!! We did the 1.5 tour on the Liberty and it could not have been more delightful. Nice weather, nice people, and nice views!! Really cool to see the airplanes at logan land, too!

Yelp
Before I got on the ship I asked 2 different employees if there were seats for everyone. They both told me yes but that was not the truth . Once on the boat you had to rush to find things to lean against or parts of the boat to sit on . Elderly people struggled to find a place to lean . Filthy dirty boat and employees pretty dirty too. Rope on the floor , kids leaning up against the outside railing and crowded conditions does not make for a good trip . $100 wasted .

Yelp
Beautiful ship, great crew, great fun, and great value. Views of the Boston skyline from the harbor under full sails - can't beat that!

Yelp
I added this tour on during my time in Boston and I am so happy that I did. The views were absolutely beautiful. The crew was nice, knowledgeable and answered all questions, even the ridiculous ones we had. I felt safe and comfortable. The crew actively allowed the patrons to assist with the boat ride, which was super cool. I would absolutely do this again it was worth every penny I spent.

Yelp
I was touring Boston solo for a couple days in July and happened upon the Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships. Booked my spot on a ~2 hour harbor sail on the Liberty Star the night before without trouble (of course I was only 1 person so bigger groups may not be accommodated as easily). The crew (led by Captain Noah) was kind, engaging, and knowledgeable which made for a great experience despite the slightly overcast weather. A sweater/jacket is definitely recommended as it gets breezy once you leaving the docks. Overall it was a delightful experience and I would recommend it for anyone looking to relax and enjoy a nice break out on the water.

Yelp
Great cruise! We went on the sunset cruise on a Tuesday night with Liberty Star. The crew was great and answered questions and made sure everyone was taken care of. I'm a big fan of tall ships and sailing, and this was a beautiful evening on a beautiful boat.

Yelp
My wife and I spent a part of our 4th of July onboard the Liberty Clipper...we took the early cruise starting at 10am to see the annual USS Constitution turn around. We saw "Old Ironsides" right away as she made her way from the Charlestown Navy Yard...we followed along side her for a while as she was being towed by a tugboat as the Constitution's sails were all down (a minor disappointment). The Liberty crew explained that steering a ship under sail is "akin to driving a school bus, on ice with no brakes..." Given the veritable flotilla of boats of all shapes and sizes around, I can understand why the Constitution as well as the Clipper were under engine power for most of the trip to Castle Island. After seeing the USS Constitution fire its 21-gun salute at Fort Independence, and hearing the reply from the cannons on the fort itself, then watching the tug boat slowly turn the 220+ year old ship made for the highlight of the trip to be everything we thought it was going to be. Lunch was served, buffet style, and the food was good on top of it. The ambiance was a bit crowded as there were 76 of us on the boat, but we expected that given the event that we signed up to see. Drinks were readily available for an extra charge, though we did get coupons for 1 non-alcoholic drink each when we got our boarding passes, but given that it was such a hot day, we needed more. After the USS Constitution fired a 17 gun salute at the Charlestown Navy Yard, we put up the Clipper's sails and cruised around Boston Harbor for a bit before putting into shore at 2pm. The crew was awesome, and they really made the experience wonderful, imparting some of the things that they have seen and experienced. We even got to help them haul up the front and read sails...so that was interesting experience, as I've never been on a sailboat before. All in all, I'd say that we had a good time...though I would have liked to see a little more sailing and a little less motoring...but under the circumstances, the safety of guests and crew were more important and that made for a great day on the water!

Yelp
If you want something different from the overcrowded ferry rides and other gimmick boat rides, I highly recommend the Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships. We did a weekend afternoon, adults only, booze cruise. The ship was impressive; the staff were friendly; the booze was reasonably priced; and, the cruise provided for some amazing harbor views of Boston. I would definitely try another event on this fleet!

Yelp
We sailed on the schooner Liberty Star sunset Cruise. Beautiful way to see Boston from the water. The crew was friendly and engaging, the drinks were cold and experience was wonderful. Highly recommend if you have time.
