A Guide to Canada's Gaspé Peninsula

"I climbed the slender red‑and‑white lighthouse for a fine view of the St. Lawrence and visited the adjoining sinking‑ship–shaped museum, where a dramatic film and poignant displays — including the tiny wallet of nine‑year‑old Dolly Brooks from the Empress of Ireland disaster — recall that wild water can be deadly." - Nina Caplan Nina Caplan Nina Caplan has been writing about the arts, wine, and travel for over 20 years. HIGHLY recommend spending half a day here or longer! We didnt have as much time to spend as we would have liked so we opted for just the submarine tour and the tour/video of the Empress. I recommend doing the submarine during less busy times as it definitely felt claustrophobic in the submarine. We listened to the audio throughout the tour at our own paces and enjoyed learning about the history. This was my 12-year-olds highlight from our entire family vacation! We also highly recommend doing the movie of the Empress! It was so neat to learn how similar this was to the Titanic, yet we never heard about it! Since we speak English, we were given headsets to listen in English. It felt very 3-D, as they had fog machines and mist to make it a full experience! Then we toured through the museum after and it was wonderful. So many artifacts and interactive displays for the kids. My children are 6,9,12 and all really enjoyed this! We didn't get to tour this lighthouse unfortunately but did take pictures outside. There is a big playground and café there on site to make this a half day adventure for the whole family! Im so glad we stopped here!

On our way to Gaspe, we stopped here briefly. It was a must visit. The lighthouse was so beautiful. Nearby are two other attractions, the Express of Ireland museum and the Onondaga Submarine Wartime Museum.

What a beautiful place. Very organized and so much to see. Separate parking area for RVs and big rigs as well.

Visiting this lighthouse was an absolutely amazing experience. Climbing up to the top was an adventure in itself, and the view from up there was simply breathtaking. What made the visit even more special were the historic sites connected to the lighthouse. Exploring them added a sense of depth and history, making me appreciate the place even more. It was like taking a step back in time while still being surrounded by nature’s beauty. If you’re ever in the area, this lighthouse is definitely worth the visit—both for the stunning views and the rich history that comes with it.

Google
This is another of the 3 most important attractions in Pointe-au-Père, "THE LIGHTHOUSE" is also in very good condition and once you get to the top it offers you an incredible view of the place, in addition to the fact that it is the tallest lighthouse in Quebec and of the 50 that exist on the St. Lawrence River, only surpassed by its new automatic skeletal version that lies next to it and is also no longer in operation. It is worth visiting and seeing with your own eyes the panorama that can be seen from there. My only partial observation that caught my attention was the fact that the person giving the explanation did not take notes of certain questions for which he had no answer... so that if on another occasion someone were to ask him the same thing, he can answer them, although I must say that he knows the data and the history of the Lighthouse itself and the equipment that is there. Another adventure that is possible to do in time, highly recommended.

Google
Very beautiful spot and ample of parking space. The beach is surrounded by red rocks. Light house is very well maintained and next to it you can find a retired submarine. The shore on the side of submarine has very beautiful flowers. A must to visit spot.

Google
Undoubtedly a beautiful spot to capture great clicks. Was stunned to know that it is denoted as the 2nd tallest lighthouse in eastern Canada. One can visit the top of the lighthouse, and views are simply amazing. Tickets can be purchased on site. You will have to climb the steps to reach the top. No elevators are available.

Yelp
This is a must see if in Rimouski. The lighthouse tour is pretty cool; I do have vertigo issues, so took my time, but the views at the top were spectacular. My friend did the Empress of Ireland video and museum tour and loved it. we didn't enter the submarine, but took photos from the outside. Well worth the trip.
