Light Years - Byron Bay

Ate lunch for 1 at light years and it’s a shame the service really let itself down as the food here is incredible! The kingfish ceviche was light and fresh (only criticism is too many toasted coconut shavings). The wagyu rendang was the best rendang I’ve tasted. The sauce was delicious and the meat was spoon tender, delightful. The service however… I was told that they didn’t do the banquet menu for solo bookings, the waiter then proceeded to explain the banquet menu and all the things that they wouldn’t serve me but wanted to tell me about… My starter wasn’t taken away until I asked for the bill after I had finished my main. There was no check in on my food, my canned coconut water came long after my starter despite being ordered as soon as I sat down. The restaurant was busy enough but by no means packed. That being said, the food is fantastic and I would absolutely come back, the service just needs some polishing…

The food was good and fresh. The waiter was really nice. Salmon sashimi with truffle 8.5/10 Tuna tartare 8/10 Kingfish ceviche 7.5/10 Korean fried chicken Bao buns 8.5/10 Wagyu rump steak 9/10 Wagyu beef rendang 8/10

Good food but rubbish service and vibe. The food itself was nice but the pace of the dishes coming out was way off - we were waiting up to 20mins between plates - and the place was packed to the brim. There were too many tables shoved in and staff were running around dropping and picking up plates without offering actual service e.g. more drinks. Would not recommend or return to this branch unfortunately.

What a great place. Every element of this establishment has been thoughtfully curated. Earthy tones, welcome you with plenty of light to read the menu! The food is super tasty with well balanced fresh flavors throughout. Kingfish Ceviche, Mud Crab Dumplings, Tender Firecracker Chicken, Miso Caramel Eggplant, Special Fried Rice, Duck Pancakes and a fab Watermelon Salad to freshen the palate at meals end. Truly a feast that satiated on every level making it hard to pick a stand out dish. Good wine selection and attentive staff made the whole experience one to repeat again and again!

It was the most beautiful place I’ve ever been, the food and service were so incredible. Worth every penny we spent! I would 100% recommend to anyone in Byron Bay! My partner and I chose the premium selection, I drank the Totara Sauvignon Blanc and wow was it incredible

Love a good meal at Light Years. One of the few places in Byron that kept food and service quality consistent over the years, and that’s a true testament to the team behind it!

What an amazing spot for drinks and dinner! We sat at the bar which I was a bit hesitant about at first… but it was so good! We had great convos with the bar staff and they were so attentive to us. Food was AMAZING! Definitely worth the hype 😍😍

Light Years never misses! We got the basic set menu & it ticked all the boxes. Perfect serving sizes, great range of dishes that covered all the favourites & everything was so good it was hard to pick a favourite. Staff lovely as always.
