The location and views are breathtaking! The sandwiches, salads and desserts are really delicious and fresh. We especially loved the carrot cake. Highly recommend. Remember to book well in advance.

Whether a local or come-from-away, a lighthouse picnic is not to be missed! The service provided by the truly lovely staff is outstanding. The food is some of the most delicious on the island & beyond - fresh, flavorful, generous servings of everything. The setting? Spectacular. We sat hillside over the cliffs watching the surf pound & splash against the craggy shore as a pod of seals frolicked not 100ft away under most brilliant sunshine. Heaven on earth.

We loved our lighthouse picnic experience. I booked online 2 weeks before our trip. In the day of, you drive up the gravel road to the parking lot, and then hike (uphill on the way there) 1.0 km to the lighthouse. We reserved our picnic for the 12:00 pick up, and arrived early so we could explore the area around the lighthouse before the picnic pick up time. The area is beautiful. At noon we went in the room at the bottom of the lighthouse to pick up our food. Everything was ready and in a bag for us to take with us. They have baskets and blankets for you to borrow and bring your stuff out to the area around the light house. There is also a single washroom for use inside, that is only accessible from 12-3 when picnics are being served. There are benches and picnic tables, as well as lots of green space to picnic on the ground with your blanket. I really enjoyed the cookies and orzo salad. By husband loves his curried chicken sandwich, though for me, I don’t love the jam and Brie as much. The sandwiches are huge with very thick slices of bread. Enjoying the picnic with the view of the tuna jumping in the ocean was special. We are so glad we arranged for this picnic and would definitely recommend it.

Great experience for everyone - visited back in August booked the night prior as weather was looking spotty prior to and I think a lot of people cancelled (which meant a less busy lighthouse), but ended up being a well-worth it experience. Curry chicken sandwich and lemonade were good. Staff were friendly. Atmosphere and view are stunning. Note that the walk to the lighthouse is about 20-30 min (washrooms at the lighthouse), so arrive well in advance! There is a man with an ATV that can take you for a small fee.

We visited the lighthouse picnic, but unlike many others, I hadn’t pre-ordered. I only realized once we got there that food has to be booked ahead, and when searched in google maps, “about” section or menu doesn’t really say that clearly. It would be helpful if they added that note up front so first-time visitors don’t miss it. Since I couldn’t get the full picnic, I just grabbed a brownie and a lemonade instead. Both were really good, and the spot itself is beautiful, so I still enjoyed the visit. But if you’re planning to go, make sure you pre-order your picnic in advance, otherwise you’ll end up like me, wishing you had.

A very original lunch idea surrounded by nature that creates a truly memorable moment as the coastal setting on the eastern part of Newfoundland (Canada) is remarkable. The food is all home made: great tasty sandwiches, salad, lemonade and desserts. If you are lucky you may see passing by icebergs while you eat.

We saved Ferryland for last during our recent trip to Newfoundland, and what a great decision it was. The lighthouse picnic was absolutely a highlight of our visit - such a unique experience to get to enjoy a delicious meal cliffside overlooking the ocean (and we spotted seals and whales!). The staff are super friendly, the lunch was delicious (we were all fighting over the last piece of ginger cookie) and the lemonade was perfect. The lighthouse itself is adorable - worth a quick visit inside to learn about local history. 100% would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, memorable experience that showcases Newfoundland's finest natural beauty. P.S. the homemade bread for the sandwiches is so good...I wish we could buy whole loaves to take home!

Omg this was the most amazing experience! The food, location and experience....all incredible! I had the veggie sandwich and my husband had the chicken curry. Both exceptional! You pick your picnic up inside the lighthouse. They also have cookies there so bring cash. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. They even had blankets! It is about a 10min easy hike from parking lot in medow to lighthouse. A must do experience!

Yelp
Loved, loved this experience! One that I will never forget. We went in early June before the busy season and we were so fortunate that day to have a dry day. It was windy but worth the outing for the amazing views and phenomenal picnic basket this team prepares. First off the staff and kitchen staff here are so friendly and attentive. They have a great team running this place. We walked about 15 minutes to get there and it was enjoyable and provided us with a lot of photos. Once we got there and ordered our picnic, we were five blankets and off we went! We ordered two picnics, one a ham and Brie sandwich and other beef sandwich. They both came with fresh lemonade, a beautiful orzo salad as well as desert. The sandwiches were hearty, big portion and delicious and the picnic is served on real flatware and cutlery. We thoroughly enjoyed the day at Ferryland and it was one of our most Favourite moments of the trip. A must do!! Newfoundland

Yelp
Be prepared to trek a bit to the lighthouse and the fact that it's SUPER windy here! Now that you've been forewarned, once you do the ~15 min hike to the lighthouse the view out to the water if phenomenal. Fresh sea air whips about as you take in the sights of the many inukshuks constructed on the jagged rocks. As much as I would have liked to picnic outside, the wind was not our friend that day. So we ordered our ham, brie & apple sandwiches (which also came with orzo salad, a brownie and freshly squeezed lemonade) and headed up into the lighthouse to overlook the ocean as we ate. Honestly, it's a lot of food. And for $25/order, we should have shared instead. However, they do offer takeout boxes (our waitress said everyone seems to underestimate the sizes!) so I had 2nd lunch prepared for later that day lol Even if you don't eat here, the scenery is worth the walk.

Yelp
Who wouldn't like to sit on the scraggly grass on a seaside cliff under a lighthouse and eat made-to-order high end sandwiches, fresh fresh salads, the best lemonade you've ever tasted, and hand-made desserts, all made right there under the lamp? I know I sure as hell enjoyed myself. It was my birthday when we took the 15 minute gentle hike up from the parking lot high above the Colony of Avalon Archaeological site, and my gingerbread was even adorned with a candle. (Though it was hard to light it up there in the breeze.) We followed our delicious meal with a good scramble over the rocks and walked back down the hill, deliriously happy and not even caring we missed the boat trip from Bay Bulls.

Yelp
This was an exquisite experience and one of the highlights of my visit to Newfoundland. If it all possible, don't miss it! The food was extraordinary, and if I could give the beauty and tranquility of this location 100 stars, I would. I didn't want to leave at the end of the day.

Yelp
First of all, I can't believe I recommended this spot to Rhia P and then forgot to nab the first-to-review. Frankly, Rhia, I feel like you owe me one :) But hey - who can stay mad with memories of gourmet sandwiches and salads enjoyed with great company while perched on a craggy cliff watching the whales swim by. No seriously. All that actually happened. I thought I was in a Newfoundland Tourism ad. A short drive from St. John's, Lighthouse Picnics is as good a reason as any to head to Ferryland. Drop your car into park in a gravel lot, and just believe in the good things to come as you hike up through the trees. Because frankly? There's a whole lotta good things up there. Past the clearing, you'll see the beautiful lighthouse on the cliff overlooking the Atlantic. Inside, friendly staff will prep your picnic basket and send you on your way to enjoy fancy sandwiches to meet any dietary restriction. During my visit it was a lovely goat cheese and roasted red pepper sandwich with fresh orzo salad on the side and a mason jar of lemonade. And I can't stress this enough...WHALES. [Reservations are recommended if not required but here's a quick pro tip. Given the dramatic nature of Newfoundland weather, make two reservations during the course of your stay (if you are in fact visiting). That way you have a back-up plan in case the weather turns out to be terrible and you can just cancel the appointment you don't use.]

Yelp
Ferryland is about an hour and a half from St. John's, on the south coast of the Avalon peninsula. It's an area called the Irish Loop, and its full of coves and ponds along Route 10. Lighthouse Picnics is a business unlike most. In Summer months you book a picnic lunch way in advance, drive partially up a hill, then walk a little over a kilometer to a lighthouse where the keeper's house is now a kitchen where they prepare a basket for you. Bread and pastries are baked fresh each day. It's given to you in a straw basket, which you can take outside (picnic), or eat at one of the few tables inside. We showed up without a reserved meal, but they had one that was unclaimed, that we shared. If you're not as lucky, they do offer pastries and coffee or tea. We only found out about Ferryland from someone we met earlier in the day in Petty Cove. It turned out to be a unique, and delightfully surprising experience.

Yelp
Visited in September 2014 with the bf. Unfortunately the weather wasn't ideal (it was quite windy and cold). BUT it was worth it. The most picturesque setting imaginable, sitting on the grass on the side of a cliff looking at the waves crash onto the rocks below. The food was fantastic. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their options. Give yourself some time to walk to the lighthouse from the list parking lots. It is a beautiful walk. Reservations recommended.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience! Everything is so well organized - picnic blanket, food, drinks - just awesome. The spectacular view makes it so unique that you cannot see it anywhere else! I highly recommend it.
