The Most Exciting Hotel Openings of Fall 2025 | Condé Nast Traveler

"Housed in the restored, long-abandoned Waucoma Hotel in downtown Hood River, this 69-room property brings a new level of hospitality to the Columbia River Gorge with cloud-soft bedding, local artwork, and outdoor-focused sensibility. The PNW Mediterranean restaurant injects international flair into the town’s culinary scene, the rooftop bar offers panoramic views and fire pits for swapping adventure stories, and a complimentary subterranean spa with sauna, hot tub, and cold plunge makes it easy to recover after a day on the Gorge — in short, Gorge-ous." - Todd Plummer

We had a wonderful stay over the New Year’s holiday. The room is cozy and everything is brand new. We thoroughly enjoyed the spa and sauna. Their lobby bar is beautiful and the staff is so nice and friendly. Our last night we enjoyed a bite and cocktails in the lobby bar. (At the time of our stay the restaurant was not yet open but the space looks great. The rooftop bar wasn’t open while we were there (weekends only) but the rooftop area is always open to enjoy the view. We will be back!

We stayed at the Lighwell for a quick two days. We really enjoyed the hotel. The location is fabulous. Right downtown! The hotel and rooms are cozy and decorated well. The beds and pillows are extra comfortable! We especially loved the sauna and soaking pool. Bar is great and has snacks. Spa services and full restaurant are coming soon. The rooftop right now is only open on weekends. So we didn't get to enjoy but it would be fabulous once open full-time. Our room was on the smaller end. It was super cozy. Just need a luggage rack or storage for clothes. We loved our stay and look forward to coming back again in the Spring and Summer!

Bernadette at the front desk was so helpful! The queen rooms are a little cozy, but the perfect landing spot! Beds were very comfortable and shower was great. The lobby bar makes an excellent martini and the rooftop bar is mostly covered which was so fun even in the rain in December. The coffee shop serves Proud Mary coffee and the cappuccino was delicious. Will definitely be back to check out the spa!

What a chic place in the heart of Hood River! The entire stay was 10/10 from the cozy bedding and plush robes, to the BIG large heated soaking tub in the lower level, free sauna and even a killer oat milk latte in the morning (it was delish!). They have thought of everything here, which makes staying here a breeze. Only item to note is that the rooms are smaller/cozier but they are very well laid out and comfortable too and feel chic. It's fun to walk and explore Hood River and have this as your home. Can't wait to return.

Had an excellent NYE at the Lightwell Hotel & Spa. Lovely interiors and delicious cocktails. Soaking in the spa was a restorative New Year’s Day activity, especially with after–check-out access. The only downsides were that the shower water temperature was a little cold and there was no in-room iron/ironing board or coffee. The staff was welcoming and accommodating. Would recommend!

We stayed here shortly after Lightwell opened (December, ‘25) and had two rooms across two couples. Pleasantly surprised by pretty much everything - room, staff, facilities, spa, etc. Usually very critical of hotels, but we enjoyed our stay more than expected. Room was small but comfortable. Our room was supposed to be “loud” as the concierge warned us, but we slept through both nights without earplugs and zero noise. Surprisingly, you can’t hear the other rooms, either… just the occasional hall talker. Very much felt like a 4-star hotel. The spa was especially nice. Rooftop bar was bumpin’ and a great place for a pre-dinner drink, but my recommendation is to get a drink at the lobby bar and bring it upstairs due to staff and menu limitations up top. No hotel parking, but finding street parking was easy and felt safe. Location was A+. Anyways - would gladly come stay here again.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying here at the lightwell Hotel this weekend. We had come last year and wanted to stay on our trip through Hood River and saw that it was in construction. We were so happy to see that it had been completed. How Gorgeous it is ! Our room was exactly what I had expected and just loved the shower. I highly recommend the kabobs or whatever they were called. Hood River is a magical place and don’t get me started on all of the wine spots. But we definitely recommend staying here.

We have been to the Lightwell a few times for drinks and to enjoy the live music. The food is wonderful. The music is lively. Both times we have had Grace as our server. She is lovely and happy and both times I have asked her to surprise me in picking my drink and have loved them both. She even remembered us and our last orders. Highly recommended for a fun local night out.
