L'Ile sous le Vent (Sainte-Marie-de-Ré, Nouvelle Aquitaine) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This lovely sprawling single-storey building exudes a serenity that is at one with the spirit of the island. The tastefully decorated and contemporary guestrooms feel like oases of calm; five of them even have a private mini-terrace." - Tablet Hotels

Wow, what a lucky find! Stayed 4 nights in this lovely little hotel. Great location close to sea. Wonderful for cycling and walking. Very high standard of cleanliness and wonderfully quiet for a good night's sleep. All rooms have outside seating areas and parking is safe and free. After 5 years in France and many disappointments the first 2* I would recommend. Evening meals (set menu based on fish) are outstanding quality and presentation and good value for money at 32 Euro - book early to get in!

We’ve just spent a week in this gorgeous little hotel, tucked away in the very pretty quiet village of St Marie. We had a lovely room, with very comfy bed which opened onto the Courtyard - the pool was a metre away & we had a private little courtyard at the back. The room was a little snug but beautifully appointed & very comfy! Would absolutely recommend you have dinner if you stay - it needs to be booked in advance but well worth it. We used it as our base & explored the whole island & a day trip to La Rochelle and it was perfect. Would highly recommend!

This is a lovely, small hotel in a very quiet, peaceful corner of Sainte Marie de Re (which, itself, is a very quiet, small town with very few restaurants, no bars & only one supermarket). The hotel is only minutes from a beautiful beach. The adjoining area of La Noue is a little more lively & easily reached by bike. both areas have daily markets in the main square. Our room was very clean and functional (if a little hot, in the intense heat of the past week or so) but was perfectly comfortable and we were out and about most of the time anyway. Having said that, given the heat, it would have been great to have had a small fridge in the room (or, if not, a shared fridge for guests in the reception area) and a fan - ceiling fans would be really welcomed in the summer months, I am sure. The pool area is very pleasant and a great bonus after a day spent cycling between the small towns. Bikes can be hired directly from the hotel, which is very convenient. Breakfast is available daily with prior notice, at a supplement, as is dinner. The hosts are very accommodating and welcoming and were kind enough to give us a lift to the bus stop on our last day so that we did not have to carry out heavy case through the town to the main road in the heat. The bus service is very good on the island and the resort itself is easily reached from the airport. We also used the services of the mini buses that have a trailer attached to take bikes between several different villages for the very reasonable sum of 1 Euro per person. All in all a lovely, relaxing break on a beautiful, tranquil island. A very old-fashioned kind of holiday & perfect if you just want to de-stress, read & enjoy the amazing light, clear skies & fresh air. We will definitely be back!

We spent 3 nights at this little hotel as we thought 3 days would be enough to discover the whole island....how wrong were we :-). The island has so much to offer and the hotel was so nice, that it was a pity to leave. We had booked the largest room as we had to accommodate our 2 year old. The room was very spacious and clean. The bathroom was so big that we could easily turn it into a little nursery. On top of that, we even had a private terrace.||The pool area was very nice and relaxing; the pool itself was heated which was great for a late afternoon swim after a warm day exploring the island.||Breakfast was nice...the jams were delicious!!!||We had diner at one occasion and it was plenty and GOOD.||Overall, a great experience!

We spent a wonderful week at L'ile Sous Le Vent at the end of August. Katia and Xavier were wonderful hosts and their staff couldn't have been more helpful, providing excellent local information and recommending restaurants to visit and places of interest. Our poolside room was perfect for the two of us - small, but very clean, with the bonus of a private courtyard - although a little hot in the evenings as there was no window we could open and no air-con that we could find. The pool itself was lovely and clean, plenty of sun loungers to choose from and as it was heated, perfect for a late afternoon dip. Breakfast was good, especially the coffee and on the occasions we were able to dine at the restaurant (booking is a must!), dinner was delicious - not to be missed if you love fresh seafood. For those traveling without a car, the hotel is an easy 15 minute walk from the Re Express bus stop at Deviation and well sign posted. We would highly recommend and hope to return in the future.

A real charming hotel in a familial environment. The owners are extremely nice and friendly. We had a room right next to the pool, with a private balcony on the backyard. Parking is safe in the court of the hotel. The hotel is just perfectly clean, organized, well-equipped inside and out. The pool is beautiful and clean. The breakfast offers you a variety of food and drinks. We had dinner in the family-run restaurant, which was just amazing! All courses were little pieces of art. We have rented bikes from the hotel and discovered most of the island with them. I really recommend not to miss it! I highly recommend the hotel if you are planning to visit Ile de Re. The place is a hidden paradise. Big thank you and congratulations for the owners!

A wonderful out of the way place to relax, great location. Stayed two nights mid-week but time stood still seemed longer.||||Rooms can be a little small but very clean and reasonably priced and modern. Pool an extra bonus and beach not to far away (5 mins walking). For what you pay for a two star this is very good.||||Little points. ||If your wanting a fan in your then ask for one as the rooms are very stuff this time of year and the owner gladly gave me one at no extra expense. ||||Breakfast - Was typical continental and some fruit, only thing I would like to see as included is cereal/muesli as rest is very good and nicely laid out.||||Dinner - If you want dinner here then you really do need to email in advance, as we did not do this and took the chance not to. It looked and smelt nice one evening but at 35 Euros per person may be a bit pricy but you need to ask what they are cooking as it is a set menu from what we could see, i.e. only cooking one main meal, so depends on the day what you like or not. ||||In the main square of the town there are two places to eat without going to further afield which if walking is about 15mins if you can walk OK.||||Point to remember for the island it costs around 16 Euros one way so make sure you make the most of your stay on the island before heading back as can be price otherwise.||||Would definitely stay here again

Tucked away in Sainte Marie de Re (where there is only one other restaurant) but easy access to the rest of the island by car and bicycle. Nothing was too much trouble from husband and wife team - accommodating us in two adjoining rooms with one door, reserving bicycles for the children at the local bike rental, booking dinner at a nearby restaurant etc. Perfect place to explore the island and then enjoy the pool at the end of the day. Excellent breakfast buffet. Would highly recommend.
