3 Best Day Trips from Sydney | Condé Nast Traveler

"Situated on the edge of a dramatic escarpment above Jamison Valley, Lilianfels Resort & Spa has one of—if not the—best vantage points from which to appreciate the Blue Mountains’ natural charms. It's also just a short stroll from Katoomba’s Echo Point and iconic rock stacks The Three Sisters. Traditionalists will appreciate the genteel decor in the hotel’s 89 guest rooms and suites, which team Wedgwood wallpaper in pink, lilac, or green with pretty patterned curtains and canopies over wrought-iron—though make sure to opt for a room with a view of the valley below. That's something to wake up to." - Sophie Davies

Lilianfels Resort and Spa, Blue Mountains, NSW - Explore & Book

"Old world chic perched on the edge of the National Park, Lilianfels combines traditional accommodation with a relaxed atmosphere that spells 'leave your worries at the door'. Lilianfels started as the Victorian home of then Chief Justice of New South Wales, Sir Frederick Darley, and continues its grand country house tradition today as a Luxury Collection Resort. It's all picnics on clifftops and high tea at three for cashed up weekenders escaping urban Sydney, and international guests doing their Australian 'tour'. Enter via a gravelled driveway past the swanky pool begging for a cocktail. There's a Great Gatsby feel to the open plan salon with grand piano, fireplaces, French doors, terrace and Victorian couches to lose yourself in. A distinctly retro indoor swimming pool with traditional wide striped towels and glass conservatory, plus a full-sized billiard table and a tennis court, complete the historical picture. There are two acres of landscaped gardens, and vast bathrooms with deep vanity sinks in each of the gracious bedrooms. Don't overlook the award-winning cuisine at Darley’s restaurant, nor the seriously seductive spa tucked away in the basement of pampering. Highs Service, service, service - friendly, impeccable and discreet Proximity to the Three Sisters rock formations and a plethora of bush walking tracks Darley’s restaurant has won repeated "chef's hats" - Sydney's equivalent of a Michelin star We loved our four handed poultice massage treatment in the spa Lows The very old-fashioned country house décor is not for everybody, and some guests mention that it is starting to look a bit tired It's not absolute clifftop - a road divides it from the national park, but you can easily walk to the public viewpoint Daytrippers break the spell when showing up for high tea and a look-see At 85 rooms, it's larger and better known than most of our chosen hotels" - Rachael Oakes-Ash

Lilianfels Blue Mountains (Blue Mountains, New South Wales) Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Ninety minutes’ drive from Sydney is Lilianfels Blue Mountains, one of Australia’s most unique lodgings. Equal parts charming country house and elegantly modern boutique hotel, Lilianfels begins with a spectacular location, at a cliff’s edge overlooking the Jamison Valley, and alongside the towering peaks of the Three Sisters." - Tablet Hotels

I visited the spa today and was made to feel very welcome. ||Trudy at check in was clear with her directions as to where to go etc., and had a lovely cheerful manner. ||My therapist, Vanessa, was delightful and a real master of the art of massage. She was careful to ensure the pressure was appropriate in different areas. ||The massage achieved its objective, with total relaxation accomplished. ||Well worth a visit. I’ll certainly be booking in again when next visiting the area. ||Thanks you spa staff for ensuring a wonderful experience. It’s clear that you understand the importance of customer satisfaction.

Overpriced, rundown. Our baby moon was gifted to us by my mother. The only enjoyable part of the weekend was the scones we bought from the Bakers Delight in town. We never told my mum how crappy our stay was. It was a complete rip-off. To this day I don't understand why people go to this place. I feel like maybe because we went on a long weekend, all the good staff were away? The food was very average, charged for items we ordered but never received in the dining room (staff kept wandering around with our desert taking it to different tables asking if they ordered it then gave up and took it away while we were trying to get their attention but they couldnt hear us over the live music. Still got charged for it though!), walls in the rooms were paper thin and all we heard was banging and thumping CONSTANTLY, ordered coffees and tea in the loungeroom that never came but we still got charged for them. We actually joke with our friends about how bad our baby moon was and stay away from Lilianfels

Our stay at this hotel was a little disappointing. The rooms are a nice size but that is about it. the pillows were thin, the shower head too close to the wall that you bumped yourself on the soap holder trying to get under the water. We had a drink in the lounge and the floor under our table was dirty with left over food and a fork. There is no mini bar in the room. We arrived back at the hotel on a Saturday night at 10pm and wanted a night cap with our friends who were also staying. Not possible, the bar was closed and room service was as well. A mini bar then would have been convenient. Not worth room rate in my opinion.

I had an awesome massage from Alyssa at Lilianfels Blue Mountains Resort & Spa. I'd been super stressed from non-stop work and hadn't had a weekend off in years. The session left me feeling deeply relaxed, calmed my nervous system, and got me feeling grounded again. This is a perfect way to kick off a weekend in the mountains. Thank you Alysa!!! Highly recommend! Cass

We came here for high tea with some family friends and spent the mid afternoon having a beautiful high tea The scones - I must provide feedback. A high tea is not a high tea unless they have scones. And man they served scones. It wasn’t just any ordinary scone, it was outstanding. Crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Best scones I’ve ever had. Only compliant from me was the size. The home made jam needed some more sugar and it would have been the best high tea experience. The sandwiches were good, the sandwiches were just a little dry The cakes were amazing and wasn’t overly sweet

The Location is lovely. Just perfect for walking to echo point, and the walks of Katoomba. However the decor is old and outdated, there’s no heating in the bathrooms (which I expect at $800 for a room with no view for a single night given how cold the floors and the toilet seat were at midday) and frankly the finishes are all looking very tired. That said, the bar was nice, the drinks and meals have been good. $18 per basic spirit was a bit steep. For the price and “luxury” tag, I would not recommend. But options are limited in the region. We strongly considered simply driving back to Sydney after checking in as the aesthetic and finish are not to the standard we would have expected…. But it was a long day and so decided to sit and enjoy too many cocktails in the bar instead before a drive home early tomorrow, listing to the triple j hottest 100. An Expensive non-sexy night away (the matching wallpaper, curtains and bed clothes as well as the poor heating are an immediate mood killer). Don’t expect we’ll be back. Photo of the decor for context. It’s a lot. And yes - we saw room photos online before coming up, but not all rooms are online.

I’ve stayed at Lilianfels many times over the years, but it’s starting to feel a bit dated. To justify the price per night, it needs to bring back that luxury feel it used to have. The buffet breakfast is decent but lacks variety, and the spa facilities could definitely use an upgrade. Also, for a hotel that promotes itself as pet-friendly, there’s really nowhere you can sit and enjoy a cup of afternoon tea with your small pet. Many pet friendly resorts have a designated indoor/outdoor area where guests can have a coffee and snack with their pets rather than taking turns with family members to have their meals. The location is a highlight and the gardens are well maintained, the indoor and outdoor pool are a highlight.

Stayed here for a wonderful weekend in July 2025, the last time I visited was 25 years ago. Was expecting the property to show it's age. But no, still a fabulous hotel in every way. Our room was modern and cozy, the staff awesome and helpful at all times. Food outstanding. You pay a premium for a place like this, but Lillianfields makes it worth every penny. We left smiling all the way. Congratulations and thank you to management and all staff, just fabulous and can't wait to visit again.
