10 must-do activities in Johannesburg, South Africa - SilverKris

"This Rivonia property, once the covert headquarters of the liberation movement in the early 1960s, is a significant heritage site that honors South Africa’s journey to democracy; it was the location of a dramatic raid in which Nelson Mandela was arrested and later imprisoned, and the site now interprets the history of those clandestine operations and leaders." - SilverKris

This was a very educational and well explained tour by the tour kind. He was so kind and accommodating. I recommend visiting here as it’s one of the most important places in history and has the same elements from the day of the raid in 1964.

Very educational and interesting. Q showed us around and was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. He was an excellent ambassador.

I finally got to visit Liliesleaf after it was closed for a while. I was very impressed when I visited. I heard it was underfunded and in disrepair but the exhibilts were amazing! It's not just the quality of them but the number of them. I would recommend taking a tour with a guide, so they can take you through the important people and events centred around Liliesleaf.

History lands gently but firmly here. The rooms feel close and human, and the stories tie big events to everyday details. I’d bring curious teens, visiting friends, or anyone who says they “don’t like museums” and watch them change their mind.

If you are visiting Johannesburg you must visit Liliesleaf Farm—not a working farm but the a tribute to the time and hiding place where Nelson Mandela and cohorts were captured and later imprisoned. Our guide was wonderful —interesting, knowledgeable and interested in us. The opening video was impeccably done and we wished we had watched it a second time after going through all of the exhibits. We learned first hand through videotaped interviews of all who participated what transpired. We learned so much and gave us a fuller understanding of South Africa’s nuanced history.

A historically rich site, and a major turning point in South Africa's history. Great interactive tours. Subtle architecture with considerable preservation. Quite expensive - bring with student cards for half price!

The very place where Mandela was captured..good practical museum of how everything led to the icon's capture. Guided and unguided tours..nice, well priced restaurant with excellent food. Good spot for morning or afternoon visit. Secure parking

Went for Woman's month celebration. Learnt a lot and more about the heritage site. Quite, clean and secure place to host an intimate function.
