Where to Stay in Stockholm (Updated 2025)

"Set in a historic brick house from 1865, Lilla Brunn Hostel offers spacious rooms (many with regular beds as well as bunk beds) and a Nordic minimalist interior that balances rustic touches like exposed stone and brick with modern amenities; it's a bit quieter and a great option for travelers not looking to party late." - Matthew Kepnes

8 Best Hostels in Stockholm: My Top Places to Stay in 2025

"Housed in a charming building from 1865, I found Lilla Brunn to be a quieter, more upscale option located in Vasastan in the north of the city, a neighborhood full of shops, cafés, and restaurants. It's a good choice if you want something smaller, chic, and more laid-back than the centrally located party hostels." - Matthew Kepnes

BEDBUGS! AVOID AT ALL COST! The whole hostel is infested with bed bugs. Someone in my dorm got bitten and moved to another room but the staff did not check any of the other beds. Later that day they checked a new person to the bed. I found a bed bug walking on me at night and spend hours in the shared area waiting for someone to come in. They offered free breakfast and said they’ll move me to a different room. I then found out from another guest that the new room also has bed bugs. I decided to leave and asked for a refund and Daniela said she’ll do it but only if I promise not to write a review. After I left they marked me as a no show on booking.com to stop me from writing about it. I was heavily bitten, had to find new accommodation for the rest of my trip and wasted hours on washing all of my belongings. The staff wear “fake-apologetic”. I know from one of the guests they checked in people that my original room after I left.

Daniella and her staff are incredible. Lilla Brunn goes out of their way to make you feel at home. They thoroughly clean every day, they respect your space while making sure it’s a safe space for everyone staying. I work in hospitality. I’m a harsh critic and rarely give a review. Daniella is exactly what it means to be in hospitality. There is not a better stay than Lilla Brunn in Stockholm.

There are bed bugs and the staff are fully aware. Upon arrival, a roommate told me that someone in my bunk had found bedbugs the day prior and had been moved. the next morning, more bed bugs had been found and I was moved. Despite this, the very same day, new guests were assigned to this same room. The receptionist confirmed this, and said that the room had been “disinfected”. I asked for the cleaning supplies to use on my luggage - the hostel uses supermarket cleaning products which are insufficient for the level of infestation they have. When asked if they have an exterminator on contract, they said no and that they use the sprays (despite multiple occurrences of bedbugs).I asked whether the new guests were informed that bed bugs had been found in their room the same day - the receptionist said no and that she would tell them later that day. I met a guest from this room the following morning who had no idea. Hostels get bed bugs, it’s not uncommon and I was not mad at first, but the staff’s response was completely unprofessional and entirely dishonest. The staff also did not offer a refund. One of my bunkmates was told that if she wrote a bad review, she would not get a refund despite leaving the hostel early to stay elsewhere. Later, this roommate told me that she had been marked as a “no-show” on ***********, presumably so that she would not be able to write a bad review. This is fraud and likely why there aren’t many bad reviews of this hostel. The morning that I had been moved, I was offered a free breakfast and the staff seemed very genuine and apologetic, however the next day I showed the receptionist some bite marks on my arm to warn them that the room I had been moved to may also be infested (I had also found blood marks indicating bed bugs on my bed). She got incredibly defensive and hostile, saying that bed bugs aren’t dangerous and she’s done all she can. She was cold towards me for the rest of my stay.Prior to this, the staff were very welcoming and the hostel is very quaint. Without the bed bugs, i’m sure this would’ve been a very pleasant stay - it is quiet, a safe area, and all amenities are available. However, the hostel’s irresponsible attitude of assigning guests to rooms with known bed bug infestations, not thoroughly cleaning rooms with bed bugs, and refusing refunds or compensation because “they are running a business” (what i was told when i asked for a partial refund because of the hassle) is completely unprofessional and not an experience I would want anyone else to experience.

Room is beautiful and the hostel is very well maintained. Beautiful breakfast area, clean bathrooms and room, generally everyone who stays there is very happy! I met some travellers who had been staying there for a full month and they all seemed very happy. The location is also amazing - near cool bars and food spots, but not too central in the city that it’s hard to get around or get a good night sleep. Overall great place. However, there was a mistake one night and I was locked out of the hostel from midnight to 2 AM. My key card didn’t work, the keypad didn’t work, and the emergency number posted on the door didn’t work either. I was left outside with 2 other people staying at the hostel. The staff said this had never happened before, and I believe it was a first and hopefully last time mistake. However, the staff did not handle the situation well the day after, and when I told them I wanted them to reimburse the hotel cost I paid when I couldn’t get into the hostel, the staff was perhaps having a very bad personal day and were unprofessional. I wasn’t happy with their attitude and response to the situation. I received a refund for the night I was locked out and a free breakfast. I believe refunding half the stay or just the hotel fee would have been better because I ended up spending twice the amount of money on accommodation this trip that I had planned, which was a burden. Overall my stay was very pleasant outside of this incident. I would recommend people stay at Lilla Brunn and the hostel fix their emergency number.

I had an unpleasant experience during a job interview at this place. I felt that I was not given a fair chance and that assumptions were made based on my appearance rather than my qualifications. The interview was ended very quickly without any proper questions. I left feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. I hope the management reflects on how they handle potential candidates.

Avoid at All Costs - Worst Service Ever Hands down the worst hotel experience I've had. Staff were rude, lazy, and acted like guests were an inconvenience. Zero professionalism, zero effort. No help, no follow-up, not even basic courtesy. Every request was either ignored or met with attitude. It felt like they genuinely didn't care whether you stayed or left. The front desk was clueless, and housekeeping never even showed up. Save your money and sanity - this place is a joke.

I really don't understand the low rating of this hotel. I had a wonderful stay here. I stayed in a private room, it was decent size, with a window (in Stockholm it can't be taken for granted) and lots of electric outlets. Bed was very comfy. Even though toilets and showers are shared, there are several throughout the building so I never had to wait. Everything is super clean. And breakfast was excellent too - I didn't expect much from a simple hotel, but they had salads, fresh fruit, breads and crisps, coffee and tea, boiled eggs, rice, sausage. The whole building is also lovely. And the dining area in the basement with exposed brick work and connection to the stone foundation. Lovely place! Also perfect location, in a quiet area but only minutes from the tourist center. 10 minutes to Astrid Lindgren's home. As an added bonus, they let me park my motorcycle in the yard for free (which is a huge bonus in this city). Overall very pleased with this place and will keep it in mind for the future.

We agreed on me extending my stay a half day because of late flight at 8:00 they told me at 6:00 I have to leave the property because all of a sudden they have a booking which was not what we agreed on after many discussions totally and disrespect for the customer I get kicked out at 6:00 paid $150 crowns..for what?! Do not book this place unless you want to be tricked and bitten by disgusting bed bugs as the bed sheets aren't even included you have to pay extra and after long travel day make your bed disgusting.Look else were!
