Very nicely presented: both the restaurant and the food. Service is friendly and attentive. The food itself is mostly well prepared. But sometimes we felt the presentation overtook the balance of ingredients. The yoghurt with the lamb is just a handsome stripe on the plate rather than something that adds flavour to 4 kofte. Fries could have been a little crisper. But a lovely meal. Would recommend the Trout with Samphire and the Sea Bream ceviche.

Such an amazing restaurant. The waiting staff are brilliant, the chefs equally so. Every dish is well thought out and fantastically delicious, plus the menu is changing constantly so you can come as often as you like and not get bored. The feel is very modern european cuisine. I come here every other week to have lunch with my dad and it never disappoints. Can't recommend it enough.

Loved the smart/casual feel of the place. Small plates menu was really very enjoyable, and very well priced. Every dish was exquisite and information on allergies was readily available from the friendly and knowledgeable waiter. Seabass, salmon, venison and stuffed mushrooms with a side order of truffle oil cheesy fries was the perfect amount for two as suggested. Just brilliant. Will certainly be returning.

We were a group of 8 adults and we ordered one of everything off the tasting menu (12 dishes plus 4 sides of their tasty skinny chips 👍). The dishes arrive one by one and you simply have a taste and the next one is miraculously with you. The flavours were fantastic with a great mix of vegetarian, meat and fish dishes. I will definitely be going back as it is a great restaurant, great food and great service. The only slight criticism is having to pay £3.70 for a tonic, making a G&T £9 (not that it stopped the party indulging :-) )

I love the place ... Great food cooked, prepared and served by Alex and his team .... Lunch menu is great value at £10 and works well with children as well. Superlatives best suited when dining here The tapas style menu means lots of little plates and you can go from Thai, French, Spanish styled flavours alongside some truffly cheesy chips. Try a great local business run by a chef with style

Absolutely phenomenal food and people that are behind it. All the staff were wonderful and I can't wait to go back for another taste of the outstanding menu. Easily some of the most delicious food I've ever eaten and the tapas sharing style makes it all the better to try something new that's been crafted by an expert hand. Perfect.

This is a really good restaurant. I've had some incredible meals here. During my last visit which prompted this review, I shared 4 dishes with my sister (most dishes are larger than a starter, smaller than a main) and each was cooked to perfection - well balanced flavors in each dish, inspired by different cuisines. If it's on, the pork chop is a must. The chef is clearly hugely talented. The waiting staff were also friendly and knowledgeable on both food and wine. This is by far the best restaurant in town, especially for something a little more special (date, birthday, treat meal) without it breaking the bank. Thank you all at Limetree.

Very fancy! I loved the wine, the bruschetta was really good and the "Pecan salad" did surprise me as I normally don't like the flavour of beetroot and blue cheese, but this combination tasted simply delicious! The inside is beautiful and comfortable and the staff are very nice. If your budget is limited though, this may not be the place for you as prices can be expensive to have a big amount of food.

Yelp
I'm very sorry Barbara C had an adverse experience at this restaurant because my wife and I had a relentlessly and unequivocally positive visit. Every aspect went well: courteous reception; choice of where to sit (we opted for the small garden, it being a warm night, which was delightful); very friendly, efficient service and above all delicious, imaginative food and drink. The format is rather like tapas in that you order 2-3 dishes per person plus one or 2 side orders, but the helpings are more substantial than the normal tapas plates. They don't have a paper menu, just a blackboard on which the day's offerings are listed, so I took a photo of that with my smartphone and we looked at it in comfort at our table. We had some mackerel on beetroot and carrot vegetables, tomatoes and ricotta, VERY delicious kerala chicken and an equally delicious mixed leaves and vegetable salad. The kofta balls were good, but relied for their taste on the very good sauce rather than having any intrinsic flavour. The skinny fries with aioli were very good indeed. We washed it all down with a bottle of the house white, a very good Falanghina, and without us asking they put water on the table - I wish all restaurants did this as a matter of course. The atmosphere was nicely informal but characterful and the tables close enough to be gemuetlich but far enough apart to be discreet. A black cat wandered around being friendly. The whole atmosphere was very pleasant and enjoyable. We'll definitely go again when we are next in Lewes.

Yelp
I am absolutely thrilled to have stumbled upon this restaurant. I have been twice in the past week and have been completely thrilled with both the food and the service. The first time I had a perfectly cooked ribeye steak with a lovely bone marrow butter. The second time I had a pulled pork ramen. I have to admit, as a huge ramen fan I think this might be the best I have ever had. The staff in front of house as well as in the kitchen are incredibly friendly and helpful. The menu is quite small, which in my eyes is probably one of the biggest reasons this "farm to table" hot spot is doing everything right! If you have a chance do go out of your way to take a visit. You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Are you kidding me?!?! Absolutely delicious. Amazing green salad. (That's American for "leaves," I think.) also, Lewes is so charming. (It's pronounced "Lewis," folks.) Great, fresh, clean, delicious food. Beautiful presentation. Lovely space. Charming staff. It's a win

Yelp
This is a really surprising find in Lewes, as the food is so carefully and lovingly prepared. The chef has a board of food which changes according to local and seasonal availability of the best produce. The food is deceptively simple but perfectly cooked and served. I had a risotto and loved it. I cook risotto as my own speciality and have high standards, so rarely order it in a restaurant, but at the Lime Tree, I was not disappointed, it was delicious. I also tried the rib eyed steak and it was the best quality steak I have eaten in a long time. The atmosphere is so relaxing, with a small and cosy room, and twinkling lights making for a really romantic night, I had a lovely evening. Thank you. p.s. I am booked in for this Friday to introduce a friend, and looking forward to another great dinner.

Yelp
Food: The Chef clearly loves salt. Almost all the dishes on the menu had an extremely salty element; Caper, Soy, Anchovies, Truffle. I had Wild Mushroom soup and the selection of mushroom was great, very generous with a good flavour but it was on the salty side. The fries were very salty, it was hard to finish them. We had two types on our table, both were the same level of seasoning. Unfortunately the bottles of water they give you for the table are tiny, which would be fine if the service wasn't poor. Service: I think it best to describe the service as strange. I couldn't say it was terrible, I think both staff members that we interacted with were trying to be friendly and pleasant, however they managed to make our table feel awkward and confused with every interaction. Trailing off sentences, lingering too long, finishing sentences in an open ended manor, and then straight back to hiding behind the bar and playing on their phones. No check backs or asking how the meal was. I had to get up for more water. It wasn't too bad, it's hard to describe but both team members lacked the social skills required for working FoH in a restaurant. An odd choice. The Bill: Well seeing as the food was quite salty we didn't end up ordering more. Still, I was surprised that the bill was not overly expensive. The prices on the board seem high at first but once you receive the dish you see that the value is relatively fair. Limetree was an experience. Not a bad one but not one I'd like to repeat.

Yelp
I called ahead for a reservation and the guy who answered the phone told me they would have room if I ate at the "bar" which turned out to be barstools crammed into the front of the place. A couple sat next to me and it was so cramped we could not get up without bumping into each other. Then a bunch of loud guys came in and were seated around a table and the guy who seated me sat down with them to chat. The rest of the restaurant was empty - lots of open tables while I was crammed into a corner. Two waitress chatted 5 feet away while I was trying get their attention to order but was ignored. You are supposed to order before you sit down, which they did not tell me before I sat down, and once I sat down I was boxed in, so if I needed a refill or anything I was stuck. The two waitresses seemed to be having a good time chatting away with three tables to wait on - or not. The food was described with all kinds of fancy adjectives, but was just OK. Anyway the whole experience was unpleasant because of the unnecessary physical discomfort. The whole time I was there there were plenty of tables free, and the guy who was running things was occupied with people he obviously was more interested in. The reviews I saw were positive but were not recent so perhaps the place has gone downhill - thus the empty tables. Courteous service would be a huge improvement.
