Chef Kwame Onwuachi on His Influences and New NYC Restaurant

"A major performing-arts complex built on the former San Juan Hill neighborhood, an area whose Black and brown residents were displaced for redevelopment; the site now houses new dining concepts that consciously reference and aim to revive the culinary and cultural legacies of the communities that once lived there." - Tiffany Martinbrough

Well maintained simple rooms. Cheap basic rooms very convenient for university and close to public transport. Easy to get to/from airport on public bus (using a day ticket $5.50) and using Google maps (single change in town depending on specific buses). The rooms are very clean and well maintained. The room had a flat screen TV and refrigerator. No Aircon, but a large fan over bed that was very cooling in the heat of the day. The bathroom had a washbasin, toilet and shower, the plumbing was old but fully working. There are laundry facilities and a drinks machine in the basement. Excellent for meetings at Jefferson hall. If leaving in evening, would recommend paying for extra night, you can then checkout in evening and have access to room and leave luggage there during the day. Only one issue, on my last day found a large, flat and fast moving bug in room, due to garden setting of hall expect it wandered in from outside, reported it to reception who said they would get it dealt with. If visiting the University again, would definitely stay here again.

Nicest place, comfortable, reasonable price, safe place for everyone. Discount for alumni. Easy to access to public transportation and nice for walking. You know everywhere in Hawaii is heaven on earth :)

Comfortable, affordable, and clean basic lodging on the UH campus for those with a relationship to the university, another university, or visiting students or faculty visiting UH Manoa. Everyone in my conference group was very happy with these basic accommodations. Prices were really good for Honolulu metro. The smallest room includes soap, shampoo, a large dorm fridge (no freezer), work desk, flat panel TV, alarm clock with plugs and charging ports, and a small desk fan. There are no cups or coffee mugs in the room. Hot and cold drinking water dispensers are in the halls and in the basement vending/laundry area. When the front desk is open you can leave your luggage with them after you check out. Check out is 10 am (FIRM). Night time the front door is closed, and you have to enter via the side entrances using your key card. The lack of AC is the main thing that may keep some folks away in the summer months. The small desk fan provided to guests helped. Cool breezes came often enough to keep things comfortable I must say. The bus to Waikiki beach is $3 each way exact change. The front desk may be able to break a $5 bill for bus fare, but not a $20. A short 15 minute walk takes you to Manoa Marketplace strip mall which offers a grocery store and other shops. If you plan ahead you can get a $5 per day 24hr guest parking permit for your entire stay that lets you park in the small parking lot next to the building. You must order the permit well in advance of your visit. I would stay here again when my work brings me to UH again.

Clean simple place to stay at the University. My room had a bathroom, tv, overhead fan and fridge. Fan worked very well, didn't feel like I needed AC. my room looked over the volcanic ridge beside the campus. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Took stars off for minimal shared facilities (microwave, iron and washing machines). Couldn't use the washing machines because the app didn't work on my phone, and the microwave broke for a day while I was staying (did get replaced). Would also have preferred a lower rate for not having a daily maid service (who uses two towels per day for one person anyway??). Twice weekly would have been sufficient.

While the staff was great, there wasn't any air conditioning in the room. Only a slow moving fan that couldn't be controlled. The building & furnishings are very out dated. I checked out early after 1 night.

The room is clean and there is Cable TV. There is also WiFi access. There isn't air conditioning in the building. There is a ceiling fan in the room. Surprisingly, I woke up needing a blanket at night. If you need to close the windows, the window ledge has louvered vents built-in to allow for continued air flow.

Very affordable visitor's housing, if you have someone in the East West Center. Option to get your room cleaned daily. Front desk open 8 am to 8 pm, and they will hold your bags before check in and after check out. Very convenient!

Simple clean and cheap accommodation. Don’t expect too much. No service, only management. The rooms don’t have any cups if you’re a tea person bring your own. Microwave for heating water btw.
