We decided to make our Wednesday special with our first dinner (of many!!) at Lingr. I felt silly making a reservation for a Wednesday at 6pm...but I'm glad I did! The place filled up quickly, which made me very happy to see.
The entire experience was perfection from beginning to end. The place was lovely, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the drinks were out of this world, and the food was delectable!
Cocktails: We tried 4 out 5 of their Five Spice inspired drinks and all were truly special. I love the different take that each one has on their more traditional counterparts. Earth - their take on a Mai tai, Wood - their version of an Old Fashioned, Water - gin-based drink with cucumber, dill, and elderflower (I did not think I'd like this, but I almost stole it from my husband it was so good!), and Fire - their take on a Negroni made with Aquavit, Campari, and beets. WHAT?! I have never liked Campari, so I didn't personally enjoy it (although it was probably the most drinkable Negroni-drink I have tried) but, hubs really enjoyed it and surely will order it again.
Appetizers: We ordered 3 - Spicy Chili Garlic Shrimp Dumplings (every single person should order these every single time they visit - holy cow!), Char Siu Style Shiitake and Gai Lan Bao (we ordered 1 and shared it - I love that you can order 1 or 3...depends on how hungry you are), and Hamachi Crudo - all were incredible and even better than I had imagined. The perfect balance was achieved between the lightness of the hamachi and the richness of the shrimp and bao fillings. The shrimp and bao fillings had a lovely kick as well, so be prepared for a little spice.
Entree: I ordered the Wok Fried Fresh Catch which was the best tasting Red Snapper I have ever had. It was very lightly fried, cooked to perfection, and so tender it melted in my mouth. Served with a delicious fermented black bean rice and an herb vinaigrette that my husband kept dipping his rib eye into. He ordered the Ribeye and, oh-boy, we should have shared that meal between the 2 of us. The portion is HUGE. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare and the curry and corn rice was fluffy and endless!
For dessert, we ordered their Kladdkaka Cake with Wildberry Compote and Pistachios (their take on a brownie, cut into 4 pieces, it was crunchy on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside, and not overly sweet!) and their Spiced Parsnip cake with Mandarin cream (this was their take on a spice or carrot cake, but made with parsnips and it was honestly so much better than I could have imagined - again, not overly sweet, very moist, and the perfect ending to a rich meal).
We loved every minute of this dining experience, especially their amazing sommelier, Zack, who helped us pair some wines with our meals and desserts. We are very curious foodies and had all kinds of questions about their drinks, so he brought us a sample of their house-made Aquavit. He was so generous and knowledgeable, and chatting with him truly added to the wonderful experience. I hope this place sticks around for a VERY long time!!!
