Lisboa Carmo Hotel

Overall a very comfortable and enjoyable brief stay. ||The location of the hotel is very good - in the historic area of Lisbon. ||The rooms are tight but clean and comfortable. They are a bit dated TBH. ||My room overlooked roof tops and the ability to get fresh air in was appreciated. ||It was also nice to have quite a number of English language TV channels on offer (not just CNN/BBC) - and in handy on a wet and wild evening. ||There is a plethora of restaurants all within a few hundred metres plus a decent supermarket. ||Breakfast was plentiful and having proper coffee on offer was a bonus. ||Staff were friendly when approached.||I would definitely stay here again.

***CONSIDER THIS*** Our stay at Lisboa Carmo Hotel was a series of unacceptable maintenance and management failures. We checked into Room 410/411 and immediately reported a strong smell of dampness and mildew. The front desk promised to 'take care of it' while we were out. Instead, we returned to find the room hadn't been touched, and a storm had caused water to actively leak from the ceiling into the living area. The hotel was so aware of their failure that they issued a refund for the first night without me even asking for one—a clear admission that the room they gave my family was uninhabitable. However, a refund doesn't excuse the ongoing negligence we faced. We were moved to Room 310/311, which also had visible mold on the bathroom walls. Again, I brought this to the attention of the front desk. They sent someone up who only 'semi-cleaned' the visible areas, but they completely ignored the mold behind the sink. Even after I addressed this specific spot with the front desk a second time, it was never cleaned. I suffered a persistent allergic reaction throughout the stay because of this. Despite being told the General Manager was 'handling' the situation, I never received a single call or email from them to check on my family. To end the stay, they refused a meaningful late checkout, granting us only one hour and threatening a half-night charge for any further time. I chose to stay only to avoid further stressing my daughters after the initial room leak. This hotel lacks the leadership and hygiene standards expected of a 4-star establishment. A refund and a slice of cake do not excuse exposing guests to mold and ignoring repeated requests for basic cleanliness.

My wife and I had a very great stay in Lisboa Carmo Hotel during New Year's Day period. The location of this hotel is ideal : 5 minutes from Rossio train station, 5 minutes from Baixa/Chiado underground station, 10 minutes form Cais Do Sodre train station, or thereabout. It's easy to go quickly almost everywhere in Lisbon or in the vicinity (Cascais, Estoril, Sintra...), and to visit the historical center of the city on foot (Bairro Alto, Chiado, Baixa, Alfama, etc.). Our room was practica1, clean, really comfortable, silent, and we had a very nice view on the Castelo de Sao Jorge. The breakfasts were generous, and the New Year's Eve dinner in the Maria Do Carmo restaurant was really worth it. We will come back there without any doubt if we go to Lisbon once again.

Our 3 night stay at the LIsboa Carmo Hotel was great. Bernardo at the front desk was extremely helpful. He assisted us with booking a great Tuk Tuk tour and arranged a good airport shuttle service. Our room was very quiet and the complimentary daily water was appreciated. Breakfast was good. The central location made it easy to explore all parts of the city. Overall, we were very satisfied with our choice of this hotel.

Everything about this quaint hotel is first-rate, and the staff makes you feel welcome immediately. The small lobby is clean, the lifts are a good size, and the rooms are Euro-modern. It is superbly situated with easy access to Bairro Alto, a score of cafes, Plaza Luís de Camões, Santa Justa Lift to access Plaza Dom Pedro IV, and the Bica Funicular to access the waterfront. Also, the Rossio Railroad Station is just a few blocks downhill with several trains per day directly to Sintra. The front desk staff and restaurant manager were superb and were genuinely interested in providing us with the best experience. We will definitely be back.

This hotel was extremely clean and a great value. It incudes a bountiful breakfast and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was extremely accommodating as well. It is situated at the top of a hill in the Barrio Alto neighborhood. Just down the hill is the restaurant district and the Praça do Comércio so it’s a great location as long as you don’t mind being on top of a hill.

We had a great stay at the Lisboa Carmo Hotel. The staff was very helpful and assisted us with restaurants and shuttle service to the airport. Breakfast was very good and made it easy to start our day. The central location is perfect to explore the city. If you are looking for a nice hotel in a perfect location I highly recommend Lisboa Carmo Hotel.

The location is great, on the sweetest little plaza, with walking to most attractions, great restaurants and public transportation. I arrived in the morning, and they offered me breakfast, which was very good. They also arranged for a very early morning transfer to the airport. The room was clean and quiet and comfortable. I would stay again.

TL;DR - Charming hotel in a perfect location. We spent a week here. Having never visited Lisbon before we were unsure on where to stay but were delighted with our choice. The hotel's position is in the heart of Alto Barrio, conveniently located for all the main sights. It's right across the square from Carmo Convent, which our room had a fantastic view of. If you want to venture further, it's also just a few streets from an underground stop (Baixa Chiado). Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, all speaking perfect English. The rooms were delightful and spotless and had a fantastic shower. The hotel was quiet when we were there (it was off season) so they gave us a free room upgrade too. Free bottled water and coffee in the rooms, a nice restaurant on site... you can't go wrong!

We stayed here during covid and had a lovely stay! We loved the view from our room of the S. Gorges castle and of the church and the water! This was such a charming location located on a beautiful square with lovely cafes and restaurants. The room was really comfortable - - - particularly the bed. I appreciated the complimentary water and wi-fi. We had several inquiries for the front desk and they were very pleasant in trying to help us answer questions and with tour bookings. We very much enjoyed the breakfast buffet and service from Luis! This is a great place to stay while in Lisbon and I am grateful that I found it!

Loved this place. I booked it based on the area, I had friends recommend other place which were all booked and this one was near them with availability. It was in a perfect location to walk everywhere and they had a great outdoor terrace for drinks. Our room was a fantastic corner room with a small balcony all around. The staff was very helpful, however the wifi was not so great as I couldn't get it on my phone but I was able on my ipad, weird...Place was clean, renovated and bed was very comfy as well.

Great restaurant with a very nice atmosphere: a good mix between classy and modern-retro. The food was delicious. Everything was very well prepared and presented - congrats to the Chef. The menu offers a good balance of Portuguese and classic dishes.

Didn't stay here but ate at the restaurant. Staff was BEYOND friendly, and food + service was great. Would recommend having a meal here!

My friends and I ended up booking a room at the Lisboa Carmo Hotel on a last-minute whim. Each one of us was blown away by the friendliness of the staff, cleanliness of the building and ambiance of the entire hotel. We booked separate rooms and were very surprised to find that each room had a unique design that was very classy and made the most of the space given. The beds were extremely comfortable and the room with the view of the city was worth the upgrade! The breakfast was full of options, and was by far the best breakfast we experienced on our two-week trip. We were given welcome and departure drinks and pastries from the hotel staff. In addition to that, upon our departure we were given a small tutorial/tasting from the hotel's manager Nuno. We were very sad to leave and will definitely be back upon our next Lisbon trip.

Fantastic hotel and staff. Booked last minute after an Airbnb disaster and they were our saviors. Great location, clean, modern decor and as others have stated, the breakfast is unbelievably good! Stay here, you won't regret it!

This is a review of the Lisboa Carmo hotel and the Lisboa Pessoa hotel. Staff are great. But, and this is the big but, the rooms are completely lacking charm . 100 percent charm free. The pesoa toilet has no light in the stall, and the staff could not come up with a metal doohickey to place one of our suitcases. Subsequently we ( one of us had to grovel through our suitcases on the floor). The Carmo hotel creepy wallpaper and the shower valves were so intuitive that using them was stressful. Granted i have only been taking showers for 60 years , so maybe I'm a novice. Whoever was the designer , he , and it probably was a he, should be locked in either of these hotel rooms for a week with wife and kids and see how horrible they are. And my friends they are not cheep. Really, no light in the toilet room just ambient light filtering in from the semi transparent glass. Horrible design . Horrible horrible horrible.
