Litchfield National Park

Well being from SA and having visited darwin twice litchfield was on the must do list ...NOW PUT IT ON YOUR LIST .. what a cracker place ...we swam at the water hole , walked down to the water falls ,then up to the top to capture the wicked view . The termite mounds were mind blowing the simple fact they all lined up still has me stumped ....illl definitely be back to camp a few nights at the park its one those bucket list things

Went during wet season, it so lushious green amd the wet lands and creeks came to life. It was a refreshing and rejuvenating experience. Loved every moment of my visit.

Return from a month offshore, and we made time to visit this park, recommended by a local. Truly mesmerising, the water so crisp and clear.. wangi falls and walker creek the two place we visited within the national park..…would love to come back here.

Litchfield National Park is an absolute gem of the Northern Territory and one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever visited. Just a short drive from Darwin, it’s the perfect mix of adventure, natural beauty, and relaxation. The waterfalls are the real highlight — Florence Falls, Wangi Falls, and Buley Rockhole are all incredible spots to cool off and enjoy a swim surrounded by lush rainforest. Each location feels unique, and the clear, fresh water is pure magic on a hot Top End day. The magnetic termite mounds are fascinating and make you appreciate the unique ecology of the region. The walking tracks are well maintained, with options for short strolls or longer hikes, all offering stunning views and photo opportunities. During the dry season, it’s easy to get around in a regular vehicle, but if you have a 4WD, you can explore even further to places like The Lost City. Whether you’re chasing waterfalls, exploring natural rock formations, or simply relaxing in a crystal-clear pool, Litchfield has it all. A must-do destination for anyone visiting the Northern Territory.

Very nice vibe for a relaxing weekend. Wildlife and nature all around, toilets available, and a place to grab some food just nearby. Watch out for the little (well, rather big) lizards harmless but surprising! A few spiders as well. A very enjoyable moment.

Such a beautiful park!! Cannot recommend going more if you’re in Darwin and have the opportunity. Amazing scenery and so many options for hikes and waterfalls

I spent one day exploring Litchfield National Park, and it was definitely not enough time to fully appreciate it. However, I was able to visit nearly all the main sites accessible by SUV. Every stop, except for Bamboo Creek, had well-maintained facilities such as restrooms and picnic tables. I also found the information boards at each location very useful – they provide detailed insights about the park, which is especially important since mobile reception is limited. Overall, I truly loved the experience and would highly recommend it.

This is a great place. So many things to see and do. Some easy walks to swimming hole to moderate walks of a couple of kms to swim or soak in a rock hole or under a waterfall. Amazing sites like the lost city, or the harsh reality of the Blythe homestead. A bit of 4x4ing with a couple of moderately deep water crossings. Another highlight of our Darwin trip.

This place blows my mind every single time I visit. This was round two. I swam in 2 waterfalls. Florence falls and buley rockhole. They still are amazing, refreshing and I could easily live in them. Litchfield National Park is also the proud home of some magnetic termites, which is really rather awesome. A total must see, even if it means getting out of your air conditioned car into the blistering heat and humidity to read and see them up close. There are recent developments through the park so that you have Batchelor for gas & food on your way in and out of the park if you wish to take the paved road option. Just remember that in wet season the waterfalls have a higher risk of flash flooding. Even though we didn't see any flash flooding at all. There are safe to swim designated areas in the park, try to stick to those so you don't get eaten alive by crocs.

Stumbled upon this park on our drive up to Darwin and couldn't have been more ecstatic with our experience. We stopped by the visitor's centre and found out that only certain sections of the park were open, and settled on Florence Falls, not really expecting much. But... low and behold, we find out that Florence Falls consists of two beautiful waterfalls and a clear waterpool that is perfect for swimming. Man, it was total heaven. Afternoon Florence Falls waterpool dipping can be a little crowded, but I snuck in right after waking up (we camped right by there) at one point and had the whole waterpool & waterfalls all to myself. It was so peaceful & invigorating- a refreshing experience after traveling in the hot sun. Be forewarned, there are fish that swim in this waterpool too and they aren't afraid to come and say hi. We only stayed here one night, but from what I can tell, there is still tons to explore. If I ever go back, I'd love to explore Wangi Falls as I heard it's the most popular... I can't imagine it being any better than Florence Falls, but I'll have to see for myself! I totally recommend checking out this place if you're near in Darwin. Even though it's about an hour and a half drive south of Darwin, it is well worth a visit.

A must see sight when in Darwin. You can not come to Darwin and not visit Litchfield, it just defeats the purpose. two out of three falls you are able to swim in, so do not forget your swimming gear and do not forget your sunscreen. Pack a lunch because you will not want to leave. During the wet season you are not able to swim in any of them due to crocodiles and high water levels. Make sure you bring lots of water. I went with AAT kings, which was alright but best if you hire a car or have your own car that way you can go at your own pace and time. Although AAT Kings takes you to the Litchfield Cafe for lunch where they make their specialty Mango Cheesecake which is a must to try, limited supply so be sure to be the first to purchase it for the day.

Found on the Westside of the highway as you drive up to Darwin this is the other must visit national park in the top end Again I suggest taking a guided tour to learn a bit about the history and culture of the park and surrounding area. Access to parts of the park can vary depending on the wet/dry season so take that into consideration The waterfalls are spectacular with the refreshing swim always worth the effort to walk there. Plenty of wildlife around too Home to giant termite mounds and also the magnetic termite mounds too

I'm working in Darwin at the moment - we nipped over to Litchfield National Park (about an hour and three quarters drive from the CBD) yesterday and saw the Termite Mound Catherdral (OK...) and the Buley Rockhole and Florence Falls (both excellent). Highly recommended - take swimming costumes and towels!

A fantastic place to go just to get away from the city and relax for a day trip with friends. You can walk around and explore a bit til you find a swimming hole you want to dive into and float around for a bit. The scenery is picturesque and it never gets too crowded and overwhelmed by tourists. The waterfalls are lovely marvels to appreciate. And it's all free to do, you just need to hitch a ride with friends or on a tour bus.
