Yelp
Great entrees, bad appetizers
Little marks is our stop for a quick casual bite around Vernon. Enjoy the smoked meats, sides are okay, but the quality is usually really good.
My review this time is highlighting my biggest gripe. We got a half-rack of ribs, Santa Fe egg rolls, and a meatloaf sandwich.
For 16 bucks, we get two egg rolls put on a giant plate with arugula put on the bottom to try and disguise the shame. This isn't the first time we've had issues with the portion size of an appetizer at this location either.
I know appetizers are not entrees, I know that some things take more time to craft and prepare. If the portion is going to be small and expensive, use smaller plates, make sure the flavor is strong, and make them thick. Even if they gave us 3 and put them in a fry basket would've been a better showing than an awkward attempt of an egg roll salad
In contrast, for 18 bucks I get this beautifully smoked meatloaf sandwich with a slew of caramelized onions and a perfectly placed breaded mozzarella to give that epic cheese pull. Along with sweet potato fries and Cole slaw and a pickle.
We complained about the egg rolls and got them removed from the bill, so my review score doesn't reflect them. The entrees are stellar, the sides are afterthoughts, and the price is appropriate for the quality. They need better attention to detail on their sides to make them that truly epic bbq spot, and if they do that they can be one of the greats.
But I'm using this review to hopefully pass on some knowledge to those planning to swing by. Stick to the entrees and you'll have a great experience. Stray from the mains, and your experience can vary.
