As I tried to start writing this review I kept going back and forth between 4 and 3 stars. So lets call it 3.5 and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
I loved the place when I walked in, a great variety of tables, chairs, couches, little rooms, you name it. Potentially a great place to handout with friends and enjoy some drinks. It is dark and cozy like you think a Jazz bar should be. So pluses here. The wines by the glass are reasonable and some decent reds. the beer is typically and nothing special. Nothing hard as of yet, but that is not the end of the world, and I'm guessing they are waiting on the license issues there.
The main issue with the 3 star Vs 4 star is more to do with my impatience with music acts that show up late. One night we stopped in about 10 minutes after the music was supposed to start, and there was a sax player waiting for the other musician to show. The Sax player was an older guy, but he was there, ready to go, and he could actually play pretty well so points for that. The sax guy played two songs with a guitar player who turned out not to be the schedule performer but either the manager or just someone who works there.
Finally the "scheduled" guitar guy showed up and talked to the first guitar player, then left for 10 minutes, then came back, then spend 15 minutes looking through his sheet music, then spent a bit trying to fix his stand, then some more talking to friends. During this time the first guitar/manager guy came over an apologized for how long it was taking, which was good but by then I wasn't interested in buying anything else and was considering leaving. Finally the second guitar guy got it together, we stayed for 3 songs and then left. CAme back another night where the duo playing needed to practice a bit more but didn't stay long either.
Lots of potential, just need to get some more reliable acts, which knowing Key West shouldn't be that hard. But I hope they get it together. I felt for the sax guy, he seemed like an older professional, who showed up on time ready to play. He should have just gone solo.
