The Best Cookies in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Possibly the best peanut butter cookie in town, this cookie’s crystalized hunks of peanut brittle give its extra chewy base a satisfying crunch. With whole peanuts strewn throughout, this small wonder packs more peanut flavor than all other peanut butter cookies in town combined. The bakery’s chocolate chip cookie is also exceptional." - Rebecca Roland

The Best Bakeries in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Tucked in a quiet nook away from Southeast Division’s main hustle and bustle, Little T Baker specializes in flaky croissants, seasonal fruit tarts, and chocolate chip cookies studded with giant chunks of molten chocolate. But the main draw of Little T is its crusty baguette, spotted on restaurant menus across town; for another stellar bread, the incredibly soft and pillowy Sally Lunn brioche is one of the city’s finest. Little T Baker goods are also available for purchase at Providore Fine Foods." - Michelle Lopez

Where to Find the Best Croissants in Portland | Eater Portland

"Little T Baker offers some of the best breads and pastries in the city, particularly known for its thin, crunchy-crusted baguette. Although Little T’s croissant is smaller than the other croissants on this map, don’t let its small size disappoint you — every bite is buttery, flaky, and delicious. Little T also frequently offers seasonal fruit danishes made from its croissant dough, with personalized touches like fruit from owner Tim Healea’s very own backyard." - Michelle Lopez

I've been coming here for years but had a little hiatus before returning recently. They've always been adventurous in their baking approach & flour choices but right now I think they're at their height of flavor and skill. Beautiful lamination, thoughtful seasonal specials, and I appreciate that they offer both baked goods and substantial & delicious breakfast and lunch options. A treat!

Google
This is becoming one of my favorite bakeries in the city!🫶🏼 Great variety of baked goods. I love how they source the best quality ingredients from small local brands like Ranger Chocolate Co. and Jacobsen Salt which makes their products taste extra special✨. The croissant is tender, flaky, and buttery; the brownie is soft and rich; the coffee cake is hearty and indulgent; and the peanut brittle cookie is crispy, chewy and addictive! I‘ve been here twice so far and loved everything I ordered except for the coffee (from Puff) which tastes burnt. Will be back for breads and pretty much every other pastry 👌🏼

Google
The best baguette outside of France! I don't know how they do it, but these have the wonderful taste and texture of genuine French bread that doesn't dry out overnight. My only wish is that the bakery was open past 2pm at least one day a week, pretty please?! It's so difficult to get to the wonderful bread and other baked delights with such restricted daytime hours.

Google
Hands down the best quality bread in the Portland metro area. It reminds me of what you get at good bakeries in Germany. Two things: 1. Provide reusable (for here) plates, cups, and utensils 2. Open up a downtown Vancouver (WA) location!!

Google
Great bakery, excellent bread and pastry, one of the best in Portland!

Google
Oh my. Lox on spelt bread was decadent. Tanglewood chai was full of yummy spices. Carrot coconut muffin was so moist and a good kind of crumbly....that was amazing. They were crazy busy for a Sunday morning but were ploughing through orders very efficiently (eesh they were working hard).❤️☕❤️❤️❤️❤️

Nora

Google
Coming from Germany this place is heaven - best bread options I had in the US ever 🥰 we had the ham and cheese pretzel and the Lox bread as well as the zucchini bread and a ham gruyère croissant. Everything 10/10!

George Dy

Google
We got a box of pastries including a pound cake, croissants, and a scone. We loved each of them and will be coming back when the weather is better and we’re not walking back with a soggy rain-laden box. Looking forward to trying some breakfast options as well.

Yelp
I really didn't like the pretzel baguette thing that the apple, bacon, chevre sandwich came on. It didn't have much pretzel flavor and the texture just felt kinda stale to me. I was hoping for much higher quality from a bakery. it was also a little pricey. About $13 iirc but it was really small. I probably would have needed three of them to actual satisfy me, even just as brunch.

Yelp
Came here while visiting at the recommendation of a local friend. We're big bread nerds - bake own sourdough and pastries using largely Tartine methods for about 20 years, enjoy finding great bread when we travel. Little T was excellent! We got: -croissant (delicious, light, shattering crust and perfect honeycomb interior) -kouign amann (delicious, lighter and less sweet than most versions I've had elsewhere - enjoyed it, though stylistically unique for the this type of pastry, more like a slightly caramel-lacquered croissant than dense, sticky-sweet kouign amann I've had in the SF area or Brittany) -Demi baguette -whole meal country loaf - we haven't cracked into this yet but a cafe we ate at yesterday served their fancy toasts on this Little T bread The breads are for breakfast tomorrow but they look, feel, and smell amazing. Pastries were top notch. The space is cute - we will come back next time we are in PDX.

Yelp
The pastries were great but nothing to write home about though for me it's already a win. I agree with other reviews saying that the workers could be nicer. They don't smile :) I might go there again if I'm ever in the area but won't go on purpose.

Yelp
The baguettes at Little T Bakers have the perfect exterior crunch and Al dente chew inside. If I'm making a sandwich, this is the vessel! They sell sandwiches there, too, and their offerings are delicious. Croque Madame, albacore tuna in homemade aioli, turkey breast with Brie and green apple - all fab. Salads, too! And of course breakfast offerings like French toast, egg, bacon and cheese in a croissant - just to name a few. Legit croissants, probably one if the top 3 in Portland. Buttery, flaky and the perfect size. Laminated pastries, huge cookies, Danish, doughnuts, bars and biscuits. Little T distributes their products making it easy to pick up baguettes or pastries at Providore and other locations around Portkand, but every once in awhile I need to go to the mother ship! On those visits, I purchase a variety of items to enjoy over a few days.

Yelp
What an amazing bakery we left Portland to live in Florida in honestly, every time I'm back in Portland, which is pretty often. I make sure to go here and have some of the amazing baked goods. Just buy one of everything ,you can't go wrong.!!!!!!!!! also, they do a really good job on coffee as well.
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
Far and above the closest thing to authentic French baked goods I have found in PDX. The croissants truly are the size of a real croissant and not the basketball size everybody else makes. Their breads and baguettes are top class. We fell in love with them from buying them at Providore and was delighted to know the bakery that makes them. Our baguette this morning was still warm out of the oven.
google avatar

Yelp
A great little bakery. They have a good selection of morning treats to enjoy all day. Thier salt topped brownie was/is some of the best I have ever had!! The Ham and Cheese sandwich was a bit oily but good, the banana nut bread was also in the top 5 category of great items, Overall a great bakery, the only problem it closes early, thats until the bread runs out.
google avatar

Molly L.

Yelp
Yummy food and cute place. Staff was a bit prickly but they got the job done. Used street parking across the street.

Yelp
I waited to do my review until we tried the soft buttery rolls we bought for Thanksgiving. Thankfully we bought two packages so are still eating on them and OMG they are just the perfect yeasty goodness. I would buy these all year long if they offered them (which might be bad). They are just pillowy light and three days after getting them they are still so yummy and make perfect sandwiches. Don't tell my Mom but I like them better than her Parker house rolls and hope we can buy them every Thanksgiving. Maybe they will have at other times too.

Yelp
French girl here! ‍ Little T Baker has the best croissant and " pain au chocolat " (chocolate croissant). They are perfection! So flaky, so buttery, SO good! I love to stop by whenever I am in the neighborhood. Their ficelle (skinny bread) has a good taste and good texture as well. Highly recommend. Prices are a little bit expensive but totally worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
Very pleasant shop... I had a good Kouign-amann from here. About par for the course I'd say. We also had an excellent cream cheese brioche. Not too shabby at all.
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Still my favorite bakery in Portland! Usually I get the Kougin Amann - the salty sweet buttery perfection is too hard to pass up - plus it's a rare find in pdx! But the last time I went, I decided to try two new items: the cream cheese brioche bun and the hazelnut bear paw. The cream cheese brioche bun was good but it didn't blow my mind. I liked the rich texture of the cream cheese and the crystallized crunch on the bread, but I don't think I'm a big brioche person. If the cream cheese was on some pastry dough instead, that would be wow! The hazelnut bear paw was sooooo amazing. The layers were impressive and it tasted sweet and buttery without having that excessive oily mouthfeel that a lot of pastries have. I dream of the day I can have this again!

Yelp
honestly, i'm not a "yelper" but this experience was rather disappointing and the atmosphere here offered none of the "friendly neighborhood coffee shop" that one hopes to have in their stomping grounds. was catching all the snob vibes and the drinks are incredibly overpriced for the baristas not even to shake or stir the ingredients so that the drink is properly mixed. i was given the wrong size than the drink i ordered and paid for, and the barista did not even acknowledge her mistake or breathe a simple "sorry about that;" they simply grabbed it back and poured more milk in a new cup (without even stirring it). additionally, i had my pup with me who is ESA and very well behaved, i understand the "no dogs inside" rule but the way they approached the topic left the first bit of sour taste in my mouth... all in all, i'm disappointed i chose to go somewhere new to explore my new neighborhood...and mm oh man do i miss walking my pup to Kopi coffee every morning....where the baristas became the first happy part of my mornings and the drinks are made with care every time...and shaken, so that frothy perfect mixture made the cost worth it!

Yelp
The country loaf is one of the best I have had. I got Ficelle (thinner baguette), country loaf, and sourdough baguette. This country loaf might be 2nd to Tartine bakery which I regard as best in the US. They don't answer phones (b/c they are too busy) and they could slightly up the customer service aspects but there is no denying they have some great products. My kids got pastries (no complaints) and my wife got a chai tea (above average). If I lived in the PNW I would frequent here.

Carole O.

Yelp
Little T American Baker used to have the best baguettes in Portland. However, something terrible has happened and they now taste like whole wheat/sourdough bread, neither of which should ever come within a mile of a brilliant baguette. I'm so sad.
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
The sourdough baguette is the best in Portland. I like all of their breads but I am partial to sourdough. There are no bad choices here. HOWEVER - the croissants are the best I've ever had. Buttery and flaky. They taste fresh baked. They are light and you can peel the layers as you should be able to with a well made croissant. Other bakeries make excellent croissants but they seem to have been baked hours ago. At Little T they are FRESH. The same goes for their danishes. Amazing bakery!!!
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
I LOVE Little T's and have been a regular for the past couple years. These folks are super consistent with their baked goodies! My personal favs include blueberry corn scones, chocolate croissants, and ANYTHING involving the pretzel rolls. Coffee here can be a hit or miss depending on how busy the place is. This weekend I saw three folks working and maybe a dozen (!!) folks waiting or ordering. My latte tasted a bit bitter (but strong), and it was prepped and ready for pick up within speedy time. Heads up, the staff really appreciate that customers wear masks when entering the bakery and stay socially distanced. Lots of X marks to help guide you and keep you safe!

Yelp
So the treats here are yummy but the service is a big no no. I've been going here for about 6 months and they don't consider me a usual. Money lost going here trying to become a usual. If your in a hurry never order a drink because they take their good old time.
google avatar

Gloria T.

Yelp
The breads are still good. The selection of breads and pastries seems to be very minimal - maybe bc I go late afternoon? But it becomes a disappointment to arrive without being to leave with some goodies. Service is disgusting (hygiene wise). A few times, a certain individual serviced me...this person have no expression, no eye contact, no courtesy. Fine, whatever...but this person does not follow hygiene protocols. One time - in describing the breads to me, this person touched them all with her bare hands while gesturing at the ones mentioned. I gave it the benefit of the doubt that this person have clean hands. Another time, this person was counting cash, currency and coins. When I purchased a bread, this person grabbed it with her bare hands, then touched my credit card... I could of just dropped my credit card in the toilet for all this person knows.

Eileen P.

Yelp
We were delighted to find this bakery. The croissants are lovely, and the Koign Amann was the best I have had. We also had a brownie and an amazing chocolate cookie thing whose name escapes me. It was all great! We are looking forward to trying the bread.

Yelp
[actual visit was 4/17/2021] Disappointing, to say the least. A friend had recommended Little T as having "great" sandwiches and a nice variety of baked goods. First cautionary note should have been when we called at 11. Call rang several times, got voicemail instructing us that they were busy and to leave a number for a call back. We did and by around 11:30 hadn't received a call. Called again, got the same message. At that point we were hungry and ready to go somewhere else but it was a nice day for a drive so we headed over there. Interestingly, the place was empty. Staff wasn't busy, took our order for sandwiches and some baked goods (all to go) with no hesitation. Heard the phone ring while we were waiting, it was answered immediately. If anything, the highlight of the trip was the Italian Salamis sandwiches. A decent amount of meats, nice spicy undertone, very flavourful dressing. Review on the tuna sandwich was "underwhelming". And the baker in our group described the sweets we got for dessert as "doughy" and "chewy". She thought that they might have been over-proofed (I'm not familiar enough with the concept to know what this means). Overwhelmingly, nice day for a drive, big "meh" on the food. There's better in our neighborhood.

Yelp
By far my favorite place for bread and croissants in Portland. Sandwiches are ok and their cookies are not my fave, but there is no other bakery in Portland whose baguettes mimic a French boulangerie. It has just the right crust, chewiness in the center with a hint of salt. I could polish off a baguette daily. Their viennoiserie is also delicious and the closest you will get to a trip to France in Portland. The lamination is spot on and the butter never seeps out. Have also tried their holiday rolls, which are also yum. For boulangerie items it is truly hard to beat Little T.

Robert L.

Yelp
The best bakery...skinny baguette is delicious. All the people who work there are very nice and it is a joy to interact with them. Appreciate their efforts during covid and beyond......thank you for being such a great spot to shop for yummy goods!
google avatar

Jake A.

Yelp
Oh wow. The baguettes here are fantastic, and I grabbed a sandwich as a snack to stave off any hanger before lunch time and stumbled upon one of the most delicious breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. I got the bacon, egg, and cheddar sandwich but added the option of the tomato jam and after taking a bite my wife exclaimed, "what... what just happened?!" Normally she will take a cordial bite of my breakfast sandwich to try it out but this time was different for both of us--bite after bite was another incredible combination of flavors. I don't know how they did it but I could have that sandwich every day, and we will be back asap to get it again!

Shannon H.

Yelp
First review on Yelp, but the staff attitude at Little T today (Sun) was SO stunningly bad that it pushed me toward the extra effort of leaving a review. The sandwiches were great, yes, but that posture of Very Deliberate Disinterest bordering into rudeness from the male cashier was notable and immediately made we regret my instinctive to tip. Then, when we had the audacity to politely request some glasses for water a SECOND time, since the first request went unaddressed, the other individual behind the counter couldn't be bothered to actually let us know that she had placed some near the jug, and also couldn't bring herself to actually refill said jug. So yeah, THEN we had to ask for the actual water itself. There's lackadaisical service, there Portland Lackadaisical, and then there's people who clearly hate their jobs and pathetically take pleasure in being jerks to customers. So petty.

Alison C.

Yelp
Love their peanut brittle cookies and marionberry coffee cake. Their spelt bread is wonderful as well. It is best to get there early as they do run out of things if you wait until later to get there. I recommend this bakery 100%!
google avatar

Yelp
DIE-LICIOUS FOOD!!! Amidst the pandemic, it can be challenging to adjust to how businesses are adapting. I arrived shortly before closing, so the pressure was on! Everything looked delicious, so I didn't know how to narrow it down. I ended up with molasses cookies, Coava chocolate cookies, a SUPER yummy turkey sandwich and gingerbread granola. AND, I am certain that I could have left with any other product, and been completely happy. I can't wait to return for more!!!
google avatar

Monique G.

Yelp
This bakery/ cafe had an Amazing pretzel croissant. I also tried an iced coffee which was rather tasty.

Yelp
We visited last year and it turns out I forgot to write a review! Well, it was memorable enough to return a full year later. We entered the cafe this morning behind a line of maybe 6 other people. The order process did not take very long. At the register, we were informed that sandwiches would be about a 20 minute wait. *looks around* No big deal! Obviously, they were busy, so that's understandable. My fiancé and I both got a Mocha Latte to sip. I got a Chocolate Praline Croissant, and she got some sort of Turnover. They served as our appetizers until our sandwiches were ready. When our sandwiches were on the way out, the food runner was very apologetic, even though the wait was probably less than 20 minutes for them. We both thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches (Bacon, Egg, and Cheese + Ham and Cheese). We would recommend this cafe/bakery to others looking to try somewhere they haven't been before.

Angelina G.

Yelp
Incredibly fresh, delicious. Woman at the counter so friendly! Made me feel like part of the lil T family. Try the focaccia oh my god it's good. They also have seasonal options. One of the best bakeries near hawthorn

Emma W.

Yelp
Best bakery in Portland. You would need to go to Paris for a better croissant. Breads are fabulous, great buttery pastries and breakfast sandwiches.
google avatar

Tiana M.

Yelp
Picked up a bunch of pastries to fly back to my hometown. Ate everything the next morning and it was all delicious! Buttery, layered, croissants and a small loaf of bread. Go check them out!!
google avatar

Selena N.

Yelp
For the first time we stopped in here to check it out. Our friend Matt Reeder recommended it but I didn't make the connection that Wendy was the baker!! We often frequent Coava on Main and often have their pastries. We were very pleased to learn that Wendy works here and that they bake and provide the pastries at Coava!! We'll be back another time!
google avatar

Kyle P.

Yelp
The food is delicious, the bakery is beautiful. I wish that the staff (mainly one guy who is either working the register or in front) wasn't so rude to me. Every. Time. I . Walk. In.
google avatar

Ness H.

Yelp
*this is a pre-covid review* YO. If I lived in the Hawthorne neighborhood of Portland you better believe I would visit this bakery a minimum of three days a week. It's so good. My partner is a baker by trade and loves to find local bakeries to try. This was a quick walk from our hostel and we got there close to 9am and there was already a line forming from the counter to the door when we got there. Which tells me 1) locals love it and 2) it's legitimately a good thing! We rolled up to the counter and was greeted by a patient staff member who took our order of a couple teas, a croissant, a lemon curd danish, and a bear claw. All reasonably priced for the craft involved to make them all. All the baked goods were exceptional. You could hear the crunch as my partner took a bite through the flaky layers of the buttery croissant. I consider myself very lucky to have gotten a single bite out of it. We sat along the high top and watched as neighbors passed the window. Lots of space to sit and do work at the tables. Super friendly and welcoming staff. Can't say enough good things about this place!!

Andrew A.

Yelp
The best baguettes I've ever had. Truly a special bakery. Get their house smoked lox sandwich if it's available. Best lox on the west coast.
google avatar

Joel N.

Yelp
The bread is delicious, the attitude is rarely warm, the menu is skimpy, the coffee is spot on, the baked goods are okay and sometimes there is a nice bran or buckwheat muffin in the mix.
google avatar

Edith L.

Yelp
Cool spot and great bread. I went to the bakery to work on my laptop and the noise level was reasonable to get work done in. The bakery definitely runs low on bread options towards the end of the day, so I would recommend getting there early to make sure you have your pick! I got the tuna salad sandwich, which was very refreshing and had a nice citrus touch. I just wish there were more food options for those who wanted to grab a quick bite to eat!
google avatar

Kailes B.

Yelp
Been to this cafe/bakery a handful of times and have had a fantastic experience both times. Baked goods are always on point, and the service staff is pretty top notch. There are a lot of seating options too which is nice! Highly recommend if you are in the area!
google avatar

Tracey R.

Yelp
Definitely part of the bakery gods. I purchased a 5/5 coffee and loaf of bread, which was still hot. I spread fresh bread aroma along the street as I walked. The bread is made with no nonsense ingredients. You can grab a wide range of bread selections. The daily bread offerings are great! Staff are super friendly and I'm definitely returning. Awesome
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
I've been looking for the best Kouign Amman in Portland to match my love for the one at Common Bond Bakery in my hometown of Houston. So far I've hit up Little T and St. Honore. Overall I enjoyed this one more. The flavor of this one is better, and more buttery. My only complaint is that I wish they were a bit bigger. I'll update this review as I find more bakeries that offer this delicacy.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
At the recommendation of a friend after I visited his place of business the other day, he said that I should go check out Little T. What's that? Only the best bread in town. Well, I'm game but being that I work for a company that puts out some amazing quality bread, it'll be tough to compete. As soon as I come upon Little T, I realized that I've passed by this place many times over but for whatever reason never made it in. I took a look at the bread from the outside and spotted what I'd be purchasing. There is lots of great bread in PDX and I've obtained several from farmers markets and small shops such as Little T. Little T, you impress me. You can never go wrong with a pretzel roll($2) and I scoffed that down as soon as the money was paid. The other item that got me was a sea salt slab($4) with Jacobsen salt, Basically a simple focaccia that apparently can hold its own when used for the purpose of sandwiches. Oil and vinegar did not leak through this hearty bread. Little T does coffee and pastries as well, but the bread was what will bring me back when I'm down on Division. Do stop by and support this local business. Enjoy.

Yelp
Wow! Loved this place! Parking was easy on Sunday morning (nice). The shop is open and airy, big windows all around. The cream cheese brioche was amazing, soft eggy buttery dough and that cream cheese filling. Not overly sweet but just delicious! Also tried the sweet potato cinnamon doughnut. To me, really less a doughnut and more a sweet roll, braided and baked not fried. So tender and beautiful. Had to try the Kouign Amann, beautiful crispy and sugary. I really want to go back and try the Croque Madame, and also the sandwiches. And buy bread. And try everything else. Loved it!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I don't know what is in it, but their fruit financier is delicious. The interior is spacious and bright. Out of downtown and not touristy at all. Very fit for a remote work.
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
While I love nearly all pastries, cookies are where it's at for me. I was pleased to see a large selection of cookies at Little T and thought about what to choose. I'd sampled quite a few peanut butter cookies already in PDX and decided to go another route - the classic (a chocolate chip cookie) and shortbread. "Best of Oregon" chocolate chip - filled with some local favorites (hazelnuts, Woodblock chocolate) and a full dollar more than the regular chocolate chip cookie, I was expecting to be bowled over by this. But I wasn't the chocolate and nuts were both great, but they hid a pretty mediocre cookie dough. It was dry and pretty flavorless. Shortbread - I am a sucker for shortbread, and was excited to try this beautiful take on the cookie. However, outside the clean edges and fun snowflake shape, I was very disappointed. It was also on the dry and flavorless side. And while shortbread is normally drier than a drop cookie, this one wasn't buttery or crumbly. Just dry. I also went the savory route and tried the ham and cheese croissant. Again - an inspiring exterior led to a disappointing interior. The croissant itself was bready (unlike the flaky and rich one I'd just had at Roman Candle) and the thick slab of ham weighed down the whole pastry. So...in sum, these were all serviceable pastries, but nothing to write home about. If you're nearby and you need a fix, these will probably do the trick. But there's better to be found!

Yelp
Amazing pastries, food, coffee, and staff. Really great spot to visit and they're doing a good job keeping everything safe with COVID. Highly recommend

Yelp
I enjoy little t, do I think it reigns supreme to other bakeries in town, no- not really. I would probably overall give this place a 3.5 out of 5. Here's my reasoning: Coffee: 4 stars, it would be better if you had other milk alternatives like oatly Food: 3, I wasn't impressed, my boyfriend was. Pastries: 5, delicious but be early or won't get any. *side note to management: when I was there last there were bugs flying around in your pastry case. Staff: 2 stars, man I really struggle with baristas and overall "hipster" staff. Much like other coffee shops in town, no one seemed happy to be working here. I like going to places like new seasons because they're so freaking nice, even if I had a bad shopping experience the staff are so damn pleasant. So because your staff was less than nice, my experience was eh decent, but just an improvement here could've made it way better. Just my $.02 ‍

Yelp
Incredible pastries, shitty coffee, and a moderately persnickety staff. Tried to order breakfast at 11:01 (it ends at 11:00), and the sad-eyed girl at the counter wouldn't let me. She could be simply following orders from above, but as a former food service worker, this seems pretty rigid. Hazelnut Chocolate Morning Roll and Cream Cheese Brioche are LIFE! Gravlox is a little too salty -- needs something to balance it out. Cucumbers, maybe? Coffee should be good -- Coava is quality -- but unfortunately the baristas don't know what they're doing.

I came here twice in the span of 4 days to eat the Kouign Amann. It was delicious. Amazing texture, sugared, mMmmmm. The space is full of light and friendly, casual. I'm not typically a coffee-shop worker, but if there were something like Little T near my home in California, I'd be there every weekend morning. We also tried a berry danish, cream cheese pastry and molasses cookie, also delicious enough to pick up the crumbs for. They take card, but not American Express.
