Living Hotel De Medici (Dusseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Derag Hotels’ Living Hotel De Medici is a type of art hotel; it is luxuriously appointed and full of historical treasures. The elegant yet comfortable rooms come in a range of shapes and sizes and there is an attractive, Egyptian-style spa area. The lobby is reminiscent of a palazzo in Florence." - Tablet Hotels

I stayed at this hotel for a one-night short stay in Düsseldorf. I must say that the location is excellent, right in the Old Town and very close to the Christmas Markets.|I booked a Deluxe Double Room (No. 111). The room itself was quite small and a bit worn out, but it still maintained a certain style consistent with the character of the building.||Unfortunately, the hotel had a major flaw that significantly affected our stay. The pillows were extremely thin and soft, making it impossible to sleep. I called reception to request firmer pillows, which I believe is a reasonable expectation for a hotel in this category. I was told they would check what was available. About ten minutes later, a staff member arrived with half-size pillows, which were again very soft. As a result, the entire night was a nightmare and we were unable to sleep properly.||The hotel certainly has character. I appreciated the art throughout the property and the charm of the building, but it is disappointing that something as basic as proper pillows could not be provided. In addition, the in-room amenities were very limited and consisted only of a single bottle of shampoo and shower gel.||I hope the hotel takes these points into consideration and improves in the future. Special thanks to Ms. İlayda at the reception, who handled our check-in process. She was very friendly and welcoming.

We stayed 5 nights at the Derag Living Hotel De Medici and couldn't have been happier with our stay. The room was clean, quiet, roomy and comfortable, including the comfortable bed. Our only complaint would be the pillows, which could be a little more firm. The staff at De Medici are outstanding. Friendly, professional and efficient. They immediately addressed questions and requests to our satisfaction. An example: on our check-out day we had to catch a very early train and even though the restaurant was not yet open, the front desk gladly found a way to get me a coffee. Thank you to the entire hotel staff. We would highly recommend De Medici to anyone staying in Dusseldorf. It is a short walk to/from the light rail to the hauptbahnhof or airport and is right in the heart of alt town so just steps from many excellent restaurants, bars and sightseeing.

Absolute top notch luxury! From modest looks outside, once you walk through the courtyard you're in the lap of luxury. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Ideally located for central sights. This hotel is like staying in a museum, we spent one whole evening wandering the corridors looking at the artworks, sculptures, tapestries and yes, even a corridor of pipes! |The breakfast was by far the best breakfast I have ever come across. Something for everyone and so fresh.|Our room had a view over the courtyard and perfect spot to hear the bells from the adjacent church. Free mini bar filled every day, luxury marble sit in shower and a massive bed. Absolutely wonderful 😊

We’ve had an excellent stay. Perfect location for a visit to Düsseldorf. Affordable valet parking, in walking distance of sights like the Kö, Altstadt and Carlsplatz. Room a bit modest, but ok. Slight problem in the bathroom was dealed with adequatly.

The location was excellent and the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very good, with good choice. I especially enjoyed sitting by the fire — it was very cosy and made the stay feel extra welcoming. Would happily stay again.

Staying at Medici right now, for the second time. This time it’s extremely disappointing. First and foremost, in November with low night temperatures we have a cold shower. The tap water can be adjusted normally while in the shower its maximum 25 degrees Celsius. We asked at the reception to no effect. Today the same cold shower and no reaction or even apology. The set of the tiniest cosmetic bottles consists of a gel, a shampoo, a lotion. In the whole hotel there’s no single hair conditioner bottle. The room is spacious but sleeping area is uncomfortably cold as well. The living area a bit warmer. Air conditioners are not doing their job. The kitchenette is absolutely empty, not even a single plate or pan or fork, just 2 wine glasses. The purpose of a cooking panel and a dishwasher is not clear. Many empty shelves. A walk-in wardrobe is a plus. But nothing can make up for the cold shower and no concern from the staff. We would consider staying here a big mistake.

Ideally located hotel, close to Düsseldorf city center. Quiet location, nice rooms, excellent service. The hotel's corridors and rooms are filled with art objects from past centuries – beautiful! Excellent breakfast!

My friend and I stayed here for four nights, and we loved it! Great service, and the hotel is so beautiful. It was very cool walking around, we felt we were in a museum. The gym was great, and the breakfast was perfect. I would like to recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Düsseldorf.

Yelp
I'm torn because these were literally the two most sleepless nights I have spent at a hotel. I'm very temperature sensitive and cannot sleep in a hot room, even less when I'm jet lagged. Like literally, the AC is locked when you try to turn the temperature down so at first you think you're crazy lol. It's a biological fact that your body clock needs to drop in order for us to be able to fall asleep. I was informed that they turn off the AC in the winter, and the only way to cool the room is to open the window (and let in all the street noise at night). For a $350+ Euros a night hotel it had me questioning why they were trying to save money here. The positives- The interior is handsome and historic looking, though some may find the hand lamps and the portraits lining the hallways a bit creepy. I found the staff to be very kind, and the breakfast is amazing. The rooms have some high-tech touches and the sheets are nice. So there you go, one star for the lovely staff and the amazing breakfast. Zero stars for the most sleepless nights I have had in my life. And I'm writing this review slightly delusional and very sick from sleep deprivation, lol.

Yelp
The hotel is really nice. Great rooms, great breakfast and great location. The hotel also has a wonderful spa. This is my second time going to this hotel. My only negative is the service. When I arrived from NY at 7am, they made me wait until 12noon to check in. They told me that I could check early for an additional €50 for each day of my reservation. They knew that I came from America and but my appirience they knew that I had not slept in the last 24 hours. Also, If you check in at this hotel, make sure that you have the rooms by the indoor patio. The rooms facing the street can be extremist loud.

Yelp
This hotel is advertised as a 5 star hotel, but these stars are not justified. Where to start? First, the setting of the hotel is charming, in an old cloister, many exhibit pieces around, e.g. an Egyptian work behind the reception. But... I had a room in the third floor, under the slanted roof. The AC was deactivated but it was a hot Autumn day so the room had about 30ºC and no way to cool down. An alternative room had the bet squeezed between two walls, impossible for a 6'6 guy like me. Minibar in the room for some soft drinks - nope. I had to ask for some water to be brought. Conditioner in the bath - also a no. Had to ask for it. Staff was not particularly outgoing and friendly. When I arrived nobody offered to help with the luggage. Breakfast ends at 10 AM and no offer to make something quickly at 10:05 when I showed up (couldn't sleep in the hot room). Restaurant to eat in the evening -well, that was closed. Nice bar staff though. Altogether 5 stars for that service? I don't think so. Not worth the money, seriously. Coming back to the city in December and had booked in this hotel but will now book somewhere else.

Yelp
This is a very nice hotel. The staff is unbelievable friendly and helpful. It is a great location in the heart of the city. This area can be very noisy, that was not the case with this hotel because the large inter courtyard keeps the noise of the street out. The room was very nice with a really cool shower. Everyone spoke English as well. Highly recommend.
