The 7 Best Hostels in Lisbon (Updated 2025)

"On the border between Chiado and Baixa I found a quirky, artsy boutique hostel where each room has a different theme and local artists have hand-painted the walls; beds are nice but can be squeaky, they offer free pancakes for breakfast, and they organize lots of tours and activities (the Fado tour is a popular one)." - Matthew Kepnes

Highly recommended hostel. Perfect location, super close to the city centre and right next to the green metro line. With just one change to the red line, you reach the airport in only 35 minutes. The common area is really cosy, the staff is incredibly kind and helpful, and breakfast is included — a generous buffet with a lovely lady making delicious crepes on the spot. Shared bathrooms are clean and the dorms are spacious. I’ll definitely come back.

Solo female traveler here! Super chill, easy to access, clean and safe hostel. I loved every minute of it. The reception has the most helpful and kind people with great recommendations. I rented the double private bed. The beds were comfortable, clean and easy access to clean bathrooms. Every morning the areas were clean. Access to good WiFi and quick and awesome bfast. I felt very safe inside of hostel and outside. It is located in a great area in which you can walk to every area of interest in Lisbon. Highly recommended. Also, great recommendations and help to navigate the city! Thank you for the Ramiro’s Cervezeria recommendation and also for the bandaids 🥺🥺. I would definitely would stay again in Livin Hostel!

I was pleasantly surprised by this hostel. I booked a private room with a shared bathroom and it was perfect for my two nights in Lisbon. The location could not be better, with shops and restaurants just outside the door. The room had great air conditioning, and I never had to wait for a bathroom. Breakfast was free and the staff were amazing. Miguel, in particular, went above and beyond by helping me carry my heavy bag up and down from reception. There is a luggage elevator at reception, but you do need to climb four flights of stairs to reach it. Overall, I would definitely book here again.

Husband tried hostel back in 2024 and he said it was great. We went together in oct 2025. We got the 4th floor, but it is a great exercise. Place is clean and spacious. I had several hostel Experience in Japan, but i feel this one is spacious. I feel i have my own private space when i put on the curtain of my bed area eventhough there are 8 of us and it is a mixed dorm. They have breakfast and it was great (my booking comes with free bfast). We had bread eggs cheese and crepes with coffee tea milk and juice. Location was superb. Literally of you get out of the train station it is on the left hand side. It is on a quiet area but next door it was all the main attraction and even central station to sintra. Since the train station is close, super easy to commute to/ from airport, and cascais. If it weren’t for the stairs i am thinking to bring the whole family back here (my mom cant really use stairs). Price wise it is affordable but super decent. Everyone was nice, i did the laundry too, they said a bit expensive but I don’t mind cause it’s ready the next day. You can rent towel too, they sell water etc and there’s free tap filtered water too. We stayed for 6 days this time. The room has aircon, i am asian and live in the tropics so if it is not that cold i need my aircon and thankfully they have. It is a quiet hostel too. Everyone is mindful. Anyway we love it

My first hostel and I'm afraid it's going to be a high bar to clear for any others. Booked the single bedroom. Great location, great staff (Valter and Natasha were both very helpful). If you're on the fence at all, I can't recommend living lounge enough.

I’m a solo female traveler almost 40 years old. The small single room was perfect for me. It was a low key hostel, not loud nor parties. Clean shared bathrooms, multiple on each floor. Laundry was quick and well done, though a bit pricey (€15). Breakfast was all that you need (bread/ butter/jam, eggs, crepe, fruit and a yogurt bar. Coffee all the time. Helpful staff and great location. Lots of stairs, though the luggage lift on the 2nd floor and up was helpful

Very nice stay at the Living Lounge, the place has an all charming feel, lovely designed and well thought for guest's confort. I was in an 8 mixed bed dorm, the bed was confortable with curtain for intimacy, plug to recharge phone and small shelves. The staff is very nice and welcoming, always happy to provide informations. They recommended me a good place to eat cod fish in the area. The breakfast included is excellent, with bread from the bakery, home made cooked crepes and scrambled eggs. All the place is pleasant and the other guests were all very nice, respectful and happy to socialize. When I come back to Lisbon I will definitly stay there again!

Yelp
I like hostels. They are more cost-effective than hotels and they offer a great way to meet other travelers. I've done the shared room arrangement a few times, but having my own room is more my speed. Staying in a hostel was a no brainer for me when I visited Lisbon two years ago. The Living Lounge is a beautiful hostel with colorful and thoughtful artwork adorning the walls of the common areas and individual rooms. Each room has a unique theme that was carefully curated by a local artist. I stayed in the clock-themed Timeless room. This room was right next to the staircase, so I could hear the sound of footsteps up and down the stairs during my stay. Bathrooms were clean and conveniently located on either side of the floor. This three-level walkup is a short distance from the Baixa-Chiado metro station, trams, and other attractions. The staff members were welcoming and accommodating. They even sent me a Lisbon guide prior to my stay that offered helpful resources and tips for navigating the city and making the most of my trip. The hostel's common area features a living room, kitchen, and bar. You can sign up at the reception desk for daily events such as the popular nightly dinners, walking tours or fado performances. I attended one of the nightly dinners during my stay. It featured a delicious and filling meal prepared by a chef and generous pours of wine for only ten euro. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this charming hostel and I can't wait to visit Lisbon again!

Yelp
For a hostel this place is great!!! Clean, cute and cozy!! The place has multiple floors so be prepared! The rooms are nicely decorated. Beds are nice and you feel like you could be in a hotel. The bathrooms are on each side of each floor. Towels provided. Very nice!! The breakfast is delicious! Something hot- sometimes eggs. Sometimes crepes. Variety of juices. Variety of jams. The front desk is manned by very knowledgeable people. Very helpful. Don't forget the free maps of the area! Also they have info on tours-- so worth it. Location is good. Next to a metro stop and walking distance from the main streets and buses. Great place to stay on a budget!!

Yelp
Unbelievable and unforgettable experience. I was here for 3 nights in 2011, the staff, the rooms, the design and decor, the breakfast buffet, aperitif, snacks and late night drinks and music... indelibly impressed in my mind and heart. I haven't experienced this much grace, kindness, elegance and professionalism in a long time. I totally heart Living Lounge Hostel and everything and everyone at this place. Thank you, I will never forget you and want to come back tour Lisbon properly and stay at your place. Sweet memories, xx
