The West Dolores River flows through the Hamlet of Dunton close to lizard head Pass. W. Delores Rd. (38) starts as a rough narrow road off Hwy. 145, not far from the Pass, but gradually becomes graded as it descends the lovely valley, filled with farms and ranches, turning to blacktop halfway back to 145 in scenic byway. Camping is available the river lower down. Tips of blue spruce are so white it resembles frost.

A lot of human traffic in this wilderness mainly because it has some easy fourteeners. Navajo lake is overrun but I still pulled out an 18" cutthroat. The north side has some posted and jealously guarded private property. The far east and far west give you the best solitude.
