I have been to Lizard Island in quite a few ways now. By plane and staying at the resort and by ship (Coral Expeditions) staying on the boat and believe it is a true paradise. The reef around the island is stunning. There are a few good walks including the hike to Cooks Look where Captain Cook and his crew looked out over the reef to find a safe passage. Blue lagoon is a nice walk too. I would say that if you can get there it is well worth the expense and will be the trip of a lifetime no matter which way you do it.

It's a lovely Island. I was only there for a couple of hours before flying back to Cairns after a dive trip to Osprey Reef with Mike Ball. Reefs are spectacular in this area.

Untouched wilderness: the island itself is interesting loads of wild life especially birds and lizards. Lots of walking tracks to explore. However the snorkeling is amazing. The best reefs are no more than 30 metres from the various benches. Millions of fish, clams and corals. Swim with the turtles and cute little reef sharks. An amazing experience. There is a resort but I hear it's pretty expensive. Camping is available. Various small airlines will fly you there from Cairns.

Sadly we booked this very very expensive holiday for its no children policy. There are many of us who like to travel and stay at beautiful places without being inundated by children. Their policy was no children under 15 but I see it changed to 5, possibly after my complaint. With approx. 20 guests, 5 were young children. It was deceitful and disappointing. If your thinking of travelling to Lizard for its no children policy - be warned
