You can take the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle if you want, although I chose to walk instead. It’s a bit steep in places but it honestly didn’t take too long, so if you don’t mind a short uphill walk, it’s very doable.
Once at the top, I had a look around and could see things like the garden area and a wine bar before going inside. Entry was around €15, which already felt a bit expensive, and then the toilets on site were over €1 to use, which was a bit annoying.
Inside the castle, there really wasn’t a huge amount to do. Apart from the views, a room with some light-based animations, and the general setting itself, there wasn’t much that felt especially memorable. For me, the thing that saved the experience slightly was the wine tasting, which was around €30 for five different wines along with a generous amount of snacks. That part was enjoyable and felt more worthwhile.
It was a little windy when I visited and the menu whacked my glass off the table, though thankfully it was empty.
Overall, I’d say Ljubljana Castle is quite expensive for what it is. Unless you’re especially interested in the wine tasting or just want the views, I don’t think there’s enough inside to fully justify the price. Not even their mascot rat could help.
