Horrible train station. For a country's capital, it leaves a lot to be desired. The station has no restrooms, no seating, and passengers are forced to wait outside in the cold because it only opens at 5:00 AM. Many passengers arrive there at 3:00 or 4:00 AM and have to wait outdoors. The station lacks coffee machines, proper waiting areas, and everything else. Frankly, it is a terrible train station for a capital city. The same issues apply to the bus station next door, which is located in the middle of nowhere. Authorities, you have a lot to improve here. As a foreigner, I am left with a very bad impression of the service you offer.

Ljubljana’s main railway station, originally opened in 1848, is one of the oldest in the region. While the building reflects its historical roots, it remains functionally maintained and continues to serve as the city’s primary hub for domestic and international train travel. However, the station’s age does show in certain aspects. Notably, there is no elevator access from the underground passage to the platforms, making it less convenient for travelers with heavy luggage or mobility needs. While a conveyor belt system was once installed to help with this, it is no longer operational. That said, a modernization project is already underway. A new station complex is in development, aiming to bring improved accessibility, better facilities, and a more modern travel experience in the coming years. Despite the current limitations, Ljubljana station still offers essential services, and the staff are generally helpful. It functions as a central and practical gateway to exploring Slovenia.

The whole railway station is turned into a construction site. There are three different entrances to the platforms and the paths are very narrow. There's only one indicator for departing and arriving trains, and basically no information provided whatsoever. The announcements are only in Slovenian. Very bad on inclusion.

Incredibly stupid and unhelpful information desk to get the 10pm Nightjet to Zurich. There is currently a lot of construction at the train station in Jan 2026, which is a mess. We had a 9 minute window on which to get on the correct train. I asked the dark haired lady at the desk where to get the trains and she smugly replied, “the trains leave from the tracks” and continued to be generally rude, which was not our experience with everyone else during our stay in Ljubljana. Ridiculous. My family ended up getting help from a friendlier Slovenian traveler.

Average with cleanliness and maintenance. But it has everything that should be on a good train station. Several food outlets at platform 01, luggage locker room, toilets, car renting service and cafe. The lockers are relatively cheaper. City Center is at the walking distance. The trains are definitely slower than what we are used to in Germany, but the overall experience was fine.

It's a beautiful station. 12 tracks. And still uses the original old Station building. Information is on the OLD BUILDING at the very end of track 1. Ticket desk, national and international desks. Also cafe and city maps. Toilets. Go to platform 1, go up via the stairs or lift. walk to it's end. The old building is there. If by platform 12, also some toilets (clean, FREE) and a 2 SMALL ticket offices that closes from 12.30-14.30 but seemed closed at all times when I tried to get info. Needing buses, the Bus Terminal is outside platform 1 as well. Includes buses to the Airport. For directions, the old Town is also on platform 1 exit. If need a hotel recommendation, we booked Austrian Trend. It is a 15 bus ride on a straight road. Fantastic place, 4* and the same prices as the small hotels in the old town. Local Buses need a travelcard you can get in any hotel, €2 for the card, add value €1.30 each journey. You can buy ONE card, load with money and can be used to pay for 2 people, just tell the driver once in the bus, he will charge twice from the card. Make sure you reserve a seat. From here costs very little, and it is essential as we found out, trains come missing carriages and gets really full. The new double decker trains have wifi. The old stock doesn't. And the really old carriages are like a museum, take pictures. AIRPORT buses run from outside the station. A small "kiosk" sells the tickets for their buses. For fun, at the station, try to buy a drink from the vending machines. Only coins, no cards. But each coin needs catapulting into the machine, got there in the end for my Redbull. Safe travels.

A train station from the capital of a country should have something more. Poor information desk with dirty toilets and struggle to get coins for luggage box. Scattered track sections without elevator.

This is one of the worse places where you can have a four hour layover. I dont recommend it. No place to sit, no working toilets, nevermind luxury like internet or plugins. Of all the capital cities in Europe, Ljubljana has the worst train station, and it is difficult for me to remember when I saw worse in general. Only positive is friendly and helpful ladies working on an information counter.
