Llys Meddyg, Newport, Pembrokeshire - Explore & Book

"It seems the sun always shines on Llys Meddyg. It rained for the entirety of our drive from Bristol to Wales, but then, as if on cue, the sun popped out as we drove into the charming town of Newport. We've since revisited twice, and the same thing happened each time. Set on the high street, this former coaching inn was lovingly brought into the 21st-century by owners Ed and Louise Sykes a few years ago. After having children, they decided to return to their Welsh roots, and snapped up Llys Meddyg to create a relaxed seaside haven with 8 lovely rooms and a restaurant. Natural materials abound – slate, wooden furniture, seagrass flooring – and handwoven woolly Welsh blankets provide colourful warmth.Food is at the heart of the operation, and on our visit, we found it very enjoyable – locally caught seafood, organic veg and meat reared close by. There's a cosy cellar bar for a pre-dinner drink; a beautiful Kitchen Garden room for summertime eating, and a wood-fired oven for casual pizzas. Families are well catered for, and you can even bring the dog. Cosy in winter, bright and breezy in summer – and a warm welcome all year round. Highs The beautiful beaches and coastal hikes of Pembrokeshire National Park are on your doorstep; and with free pick-up from the train station and a good bus network you could leave the car at homeWe loved the hearty breakfasts – smoked haddock with poached eggs, fresh fruit pancakes with local yoghurt and honeyThe simple, homespun bedrooms achieve that alchemy of being cosy yet light and airyWell-equipped for families travelling with small children, and babysitting can be arrangedNewport is one of the nicest towns in Pembrokeshire and there are several other lovely cafes and pubs nearby Lows The garden bedrooms (especially room 7) can be noisy on summer evenings or if there's a function happening Dinner service can be patchy; not ideal given the pricesA cosy, shabby chic feel rather than an overly polished vibe" - Kate Parsons

We booked a room here last minute, as got let down with our hotel. What a wonderful find. They found my disabled mum & I a beautiful dog friendly room. The place is stunning & the garden amazing. The breakfast was lovely & the staff very friendly & helpful. Check out the cellar bar. Loads of little hidden booths. Loved it. Would definitely recommend & would come back 💜💜💜💜

Fantastic stay. All the staff were incredible especially Dave at breakfast, the chef was also so so kind. We had a great stay with our dog, the hotel was so pretty and what a beautiful beer garden. We will be back!

I can’t rate the rooms as we only had dinner at the restaurant however if they’re anything like our dining experience I’m sure they’ll be five star as well. The food was incredible and our server was very friendly and attentive. We ate in the main restaurant which is a fantastic setting to enjoy such good food. Pictured is the Venison Ragu (one of the best starters I’ve ever had) and the Lamb Shoulder main.

My wife an I stayed here over Christmas and had a fantastic stay. The hotel is boutique and does not have that standard hotel feel, it feels welcoming. The room was excellent large with a big bathroom with both shower and bath and bed was almost too comfortable. The hotel has a lovely restaurant that is expanded by a huge but cozy beer garden/Terrace. (although we didn't see this much in action as it was December) From breakfast to dinner all the food was of top quality and neither of us had a dish we were not happy with. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely stay again, maybe summer time.

I would NOT recommend this place, we stayed one night in the dog friendly room number 7, for my husband’s birthday, its was dirty, cobwebs all around the ceiling, the windows were single glazed and there was a cold draft coming in and in the night we were so cold our ears were ice cold, it was extremely noisy due to the single glazed windows you could hear the other guests coming and going which was not great when you have a dog with you… They left bathrobes in the bathroom that were not washed, they had holes in them and lots of dirty marks and smelt awful, the bathroom and room smelt of damp…we paid £155 for the room per night and it was the most awful place we have ever stayed in… we then had dinner in the evening and we had sourdough bread for starters with miso butter and the bread was black and burnt… my husband complained and the waiter said it’s just heavily toasted, I tried it and it just tasted like burnt toast we then took it back they brought our another lot out and it wasn’t much better we ate around the burnt bits there was so much waste… our mains later on came out and that was much better.. however we asked for a bottle of water that didn’t even come out… there was one server and we felt we were ignored. We didn’t sleep at all as we were so cold in the room… when we checked out in the morning we said mentioned this to the lady and she didn’t really do anything she just said she will make a note… I felt so bad for my husband as it was his birthday treat, the ignorance from the staff were appalling and the accommodation was a disgraceful. We are very disappointed and would never recommend this place.

Brilliant food in a classy establishment. Secret garden is a brilliant spot and the pods are cosy but large enough for big groups

This place is unreal. I'm going to be honest, from the outside I wasn't expecting it to be quite so beautiful in the secret garden. But definitely go for dinner here. We went smart casual but I think any dress code is welcome, from heels to trainers. It is divine dining. The best bit, they're dog friendly outside so Vinny joined us (and they treated him really well too). They've got outside heaters & blankets. Prices was about £150 for two, 3 course with wine and some cocktails. Experience it. Service was excellent too.

I was lucky enough to be booked to photograph a wedding at Llys Meddyg and I am so happy I was. The location is quaint and stunning with its lush greenery of the Secret Garden there are a million little spaces to capture unique wedding photos in. The staff were amazing even though I was there as a photographer and not a guest they made sure I was fed a delicious 3 course meal and informed of the time line all day long. Cannot wait for my next wedding booking at Llys Meddyg.
