We had a generally good experience at Lobster Shack, with some definite highlights and a few things that held it back from being great. The biggest downside was the seating inside the building - unfortunately it was pretty uncomfortable and took away from the overall experience. It’s not the kind of place you’d want to linger for too long indoors. Food-wise though, there were some real wins. We ordered the Crumbed Share Pack, Calamari Pack, and a dozen Kilpatrick oysters. The oysters were absolutely outstanding - easily the star of the meal and genuinely impressive. The fish was also excellent: fresh, well cooked, and probably a notch above what you’d expect from a standard fish-and-chip shop. The calamari was enjoyable and the share pack was generous, making it good for, well, sharing. While the seating and overall comfort could definitely use improvement, the quality of the seafood made up for a lot of it. We still left happy and satisfied, and for the food alone it’s worth stopping by - especially if you’re there for the oysters. A solid 3 to 4 star experience overall. 🙂

The lobster at Lobster Shack Bicheno is exceptionally fresh and tender, showcasing true Tasmanian flavour straight from the sea. Served simply, it lets the natural sweetness of the meat shine. Paired with ocean views, it’s a premium coastal dining experience — though a little pricey, it’s worth every bite. The Tasmanian Oysters at Lobster Shack, Bicheno are a true showcase of the island’s pristine coastal flavours. Freshly shucked and served chilled, the oysters are plump, briny, and irresistibly smooth — capturing the pure taste of the Tasman Sea. Each bite delivers a clean ocean essence, complemented beautifully by a squeeze of lemon or a light vinaigrette. The setting by the water enhances the experience, making it a must-try for seafood enthusiasts. Simple, elegant, and unmistakably Tasmanian, these oysters define coastal dining at its finest. The Fish and Chips at Lobster Shack, Bicheno perfectly embody Tasmania’s coastal dining experience. The fish is lightly battered to a golden crisp, revealing tender, flaky flesh that tastes fresh from the sea. The chips are thick-cut, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to a satisfying crunch. Served with tartare sauce and a wedge of lemon, the dish strikes an ideal balance between simplicity and quality. Enjoyed by the waterfront with a sea breeze and ocean views, it’s a classic Tasmanian meal done exceptionally well — hearty, fresh, and full of local flavour.

I got frozen lobster which to their credit, they display front and foremost when you're ordering. However as it was frozen the meal was just okay. You do get a few chunks of lobster but for 25 + 3 for chips is pretty pricey. Abalone was nice and served in three shells but the amount was just one Abalone worth. Salad is a salad can't really say much but the anchovies add a nice salinity to it. View is amazing so that is a plus but the food is just so so. Could be due to frozen lobster being used, may need to try when it's back in season.

Such a cool spot. The Lobster Shack has a great laid-back vibe that fits perfectly with the coastal setting. Sitting on the deck watching the boats and the water while eating fresh seafood is a highlight of the East Coast drive. Even if you aren't huge on lobster, the fish and chips are great too. Tip: It gets super busy at lunch, so get there early to snag a good table by the window!

Although it's about a 2.5-hour drive from Hobart city and feels a bit far, I think it's worth visiting at least once. The location is also great, with the ocean nearby, so you can enjoy the view while having your meal. The food overall was good. Most of the dishes were fairly standard, but the lobster roll felt a bit underwhelming—the filling was sparse, and it was hard to really taste the lobster. However, the seafood chowder and garlic butter abalone were both very delicious.

Fantastic food at good prices in a great location!! I had the lobster roll following so many reviews and it was definitely a good choice; probably the best lobster roll I ever had. Note that the taste of dill is very present, which made it taste light and fresh, but it could be a turn off if you don't like dill.

Delicious assortment of seafood and the freshest meaty lobster! Great views of the bay and friendly service from the staff. Plenty of seating indoors, outdoors and upstairs but the seating overlooking the bay is hotly contested but not suitable for groups more than four. They have large picnic style tables for larger groups. Honestly it was good but for $205 platter, expected less chips and a few more prawns! Overall very enjoyable especially on a sunny day!

Stopped by here after visiting Bicheno Blowhole (nothing much) and enjoyed the fresh lobsters in the bun we ordered. It was great and very enjoyable for sure, but not sure if it’s worth travelling all the way if this isn’t en-route on your itineraries - pretty sure you’d get good lobsters/seafood aplenty elsewhere around, and at similar prices too. They do have a nice deck for you to sit and enjoy the view of the oceanfront though. It was almost perfect weather in end August, and we saw lots of sea birds and even some seals resting on the rocks.
