Stopped here for lunch the other day, and was pleasantly surprised. I guess I didn't really know what to expect other than a place for locavores to get a bite to eat. When I walked in looking for lunch and saw a wide variety of vegetables and fruits in a market-like setting, I was a little befuddled, but then saw the cafe counter in the back. My first conversation with staff was mildly adequate, but then the chef/proprietor (?) came out of the kitchen & gave me the full spiel on the market & the menu. Wow! Everything in the place is locally sourced, and the menu adjusts according to what is available. I had a Gourmet Grilled Cheese sandwich with sausage, which came with corn chips and hummus. The sandwich included thinly sliced apples with mild cheeses & even milder sausage. I usually prefer sharp cheeses & spiced sausages, but the flavor combinations did compliment one another well. The corn chips & hummus were a great side. My glass of water was served in a Mason jar. I guess that's quaint & what to expect at a food co-op. Cafe is open 11-2 Tuesday through Saturday.
I wandered the market while waiting for my sandwich. All kinds of straight-from-the-farm vegetables, fruits, & meats. My favorite was a sweet potato the size of a football. Local cheeses, breads, syrups, honey, & herbs. All kinds of healthy stuff. The adjoining room had items from local artisans. Found a cool leather-bound journal I couldn't do without.
This was a cool place. Exceeded my expectations.
