Such a pretty place! The outside area is so cute. Service was lovely, food was delicious and the dessert was PHENOMENAL. I had the Dark Chocolate and Salted Caramel Delice….i don’t think I got the name quite right, but it is now in my top 3 of all time favourite desserts. I would like to eat it all day everyday. That’s how good it was. 100000/10 recommend

Our dinner here was nice, in a pretty Tudor-esque setting. But the overall experience was good but not great - nowhere near the 'fine dining' experience they put forth. Service was just okay, and the food presentation and flavours were more homemade than chef.

Google
Absolutely loved this place! The dishes were bursting with flavor, beautifully presented, and truly memorable. They proudly claim everything is locally sourced, and it really shows in the freshness and quality. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming made the whole experience even better. Highly recommended!

We found Locals to be a very disappointing experience. Our scallop and pork belly starter was tasty and based on that, we looked forward to our meal. Unfortunately we were very wrong. The bread and compound butter were nice, but our entrees were very disappointing. My wife ordered the Bouillabaisse, which came out bland with some fish overcooked, with the crab in particular more closely resembling rubber than fresh seafood. I ordered the venison, which was well seasoned but ultimately uninspired. The sauces and vegetables were competently if plainly executed, but the meal as a whole had a very plain meat and potatoes vibe, rather than fine dining. We also struggled to get attention from our server, who only stopped by twice in our entire meal. Disappointed with our mains, we ordered a few desserts to sample, finding them sweet and enjoyable but similarly pedestrian. Overall Locals was our most disappointing meal during a week on the island. I’d recommend anyone with a foodie bent steer clear of this place. Your money is far better spent elsewhere. At the price point Locals is charging, there is far better food to be had in the Courtenay area (see Atlas Cafe).

I don't know if there is a new chef, but Locals used to be one of my favourites. I don't come often as it is pricey, but it has always been worth it for a special occasion. Tonight was very underwhelming. Great service, the servers are top notch. The cocktails... lacking. The food, good, but nothing special. I expect more for fine dining. I've read a few comments in response to less than favourable reviews and, yikes, it sounds like things have definitely changed. I hope they up their game again -- it's been a couple of years since we've been.

We came here for my birthday and were pretty disappointed. The venue is gorgeous with a beautiful garden and weeping willow. Our server Georgette was very kind and attentive, however we sat for an hour and a half before our food arrived. Our drinks took a while to come out as well and we only ordered tea and lemonade. Neither of these were the fault of the server, and there were large groups at the restaurant which accounted for the lengthy waiting time. However no effort was made to provide and discount or comp, and the food lacked flavour. After an hour and a half we were pretty hungry so ate it all, but when our $130 bill came we really felt it wasn’t worth it. Going out these days is expensive and a good atmosphere can only count for so much. There is only so much you can do on a busy night but offering a free desert or comping drinks would have gone a long way. We probably won’t be back.

Google
Loved this place. Three of us came for an early dinner. There is a beautiful outdoor patio. Inside feels warm and inviting. The salmon appetizer was delicious. There was a great choice of entrees. For dinner two of us had the seafood pasta (different options) and our other diner had the steak, all were excellent. For dessert we had the chocolate cake, the cheesecake and creme Brule. Only let down was the lavender creme brule which tasted like dish soap.

Google
I have to agree with the reviews by Munro. The staff were lovely, provided our table of 9 with a lovely smile and carafe of water, but they missed the mark on promptness. Food took over an hour to come to the table, and was just ok, missed serving a beverage, and for high end, I for one don't expect to sit on an uncomfortable camping-type poly chair with a flat seat cushion. Some love needed there. The house itself has always been so charming and a beautiful atmosphere, do it some justice with the better seating it deserves. Dinner and drinks for 2 just under 200$

Yelp
Great food, great service, wonderful atmosphere for a special occasion dinner for a date or party.

Yelp
Upscale cuisine, my palette isn't very sophisticated so i did find much appealing on the menu. The noodles the served me sans seafood were delicious and fresh. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. Nice decor..

Yelp
Hard to complain about a place that is a local favourite. I don't like how the parking situation is very clear and had to walk around the building in the rain to get to the door. Came in on a Saturday afternoon for brunch and it was decently busy but we managed to get seated right away. I'm a fan of the rustic decor while it's not like that for everyone so your taste may vary. It had a good view of the river and lawn with a big open window. The food itself was good, not great but just good. It's a bit on the higher priced fare as most dishes are priced around the mid $20 mark. There was a very hot blonde server that looked like a young Britney Spears. Kudos. Also the complimentary blueberry muffins at the end of the meal were very good and appreciated.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant has an old rustic fine dining vibe to it. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was busy. I like that they offered a brunch option along with their normal menu. We got the Salish Sea Omelette and the Seafood Pasta, both of which were delicious. Our waitress also brought us some complimentary mini blueberry muffins which were so tasty. I probably would've bought some to take home if it was on the menu. I also liked that they gave out some chocolate mints at the end of our meal. Overall a decent restaurant with tasty dishes for a little above average price.

Yelp
I was a bit worried when the wine I chose was no longer available but still on the menu but that was the only disappointment to the evening. We shared the raclette and apple salad for the starter which came split into two plates. The presentation was lovely and the salad was very interesting, a bit different and tasty. I had the delicious seafood trio. Not only were the fish offerings beautifully prepared and presented but the same attention was given to the vegetables that complemented the fish. I also really enjoyed the polenta. My husband had the prawn and scallop curry and he enjoyed every morsel of this succulent dish. We were pleased to be offered an amuse bouche to start and then a tiny sweet with our coffee (we were too full to order dessert but the little raspberry ganache was delightful!). The service was attentive and friendly. The room was pretty loud but there was a large group dining together.

Yelp
Ambience here is nice, and the patio area has a nice array of space heaters and nice views of foliage outside. Staff were quick to seat us but just ok on speed there-after, and down-right slow to pay. Might be due to staffing shortages. The food is good, but nothing great (other reviews that describe how this place's best feature is the ambience are spot on.) We had the salmon sandwich which was quite good. We opted for the Caesar Salad which was probably the high point for the food. The seafood crepe was not good at all and we couldn't even eat half of it. It seems like it's smeared in yellow mustard, cheese, and just wasn't appealing. Try some other places in Courtenay before Locals.

Yelp
We (not locals) met up with friends for lunch today. Our servers were prompt and professional, which we appreciated. We had the rockfish with potato rosti, which was very nicely done. We sat chatting idly, catching up on all the news (it wasn't busy or we wouldn't have stayed at the table) and not once did the server make us feel rushed. The lavender meringues at the end of our meal was a nice touch. This is still one of my favourite places at which to dine when we're on the island. Kudos to all!

Yelp
Locals is located next door to the Old House hotel. Located near the mouth of the Puntledge River, this heritage building provides a warm and intimate atmosphere. Finding Locals was a very accidental, but pleasant discovery when we were staying in Courtney. The indoor dining room was fully booked on a Friday evening but there was plenty of room on the inviting large, scenic patio surrounded by a beautiful garden and walking path. The service was fantastic. After being seated, within a couple of minutes, we had a pleasant server who brought water and took our drink order and delivered it within minutes. Our server was also polite and informed about the food and wine choices. After discussing the menu, we decided on the Comox Valley charcuterie boardand beef tenderloin. Unfortunately, we dove into the charcuterie board and forgot to take a picture. The pasta accompanying the beef tenderloin was al dente with a phenomenal mushroom beef sauce. The beef was tender and melted in your mouth. I would order this dish again! We had a wonderful experience and would recommend it to anyone in Courtney or visiting from out of town!

Yelp
I give this place full props for buying and supporting local farms and businesses that supply the ingredients. Great Ambience, Service and Location.. Extensive Wine Menu.. Wanted to start with something small and go from there to see what I liked or didn't like... Came here because the searched mentioned 'brunch' but came to find out that they only serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday.... Started with the Fish Chowder and an order or Artisan Bread and Butter.. Yes - there was a TON of fish in that small cup but the soup literally tasted like someone threw some fish in a pan and added Half-n-Half and loads of sugar... The soup was SWEET as in Ice Cream sweet... didn't know that was normal and NO TASTE whatsoever... NONE.... Added a ton of salt and pepper to get some flavor.... Also ordered Artisan Bread with Butter. The plate same with some kind of pumpkin bread and another variety, and a very small dash of butter which was just enough for one slice... At this point, decided not to order anything else, paid the bill and left... The likelihood of coming back here is very low...

Yelp
Very nice local place, surrounded by an old hotel and a beautiful garden. The food is delicious and service is super pleasant. Definitely a place not to miss when In Courtenay.

Yelp
Do you love old character homes, wood beams, delicious foods, comfortable dining and friendly service? Then make reservations now, you won't regret it. My mother lives in the area and took me here for lunch. We loved our time here. The menu is diverse, well thought out and fresh; most items are made in house. They served tiny muffins to start, these were our least favourite as they tasted stale and bland - but they were complimentary and would've satiated anyone who needed it, so kudos to them for thinking of and offering these. For our lunch mains we had potato crusted fish and portobello mushroom on polenta. The fish was perfectly crusted and flavoured, served on a large bed of salad - this is the second time my mom has ordered this here, she really likes it. The mushroom and polenta I had was such a well rounded dish of flavours and textures, truly bravo. Neither of our dishes were heavy or oily, just deliciously fresh and well balanced with a generous helping of greens - we both cleaned our plates because it was so good, we were definitely full - the portion size was great, but the balancing of ingredients the kitchen does didn't leave us overly stuffed and feeling gross (thank you!). The vegan chocolate mousse cake was fabulous and went perfectly with a hot coffee. Such a beautiful dining experience. The old style glass window partitions they are using for covid are very classy. And it was perfectly decorated for Christmas. We'll done Locals! We'll be back for sure. Thank you!

Yelp
The food is good and good portions. Prices are on the high end but I assume most of the customers are from the attached hotel. I recommend getting the charcuterie and cheese boards. If the pate is in fact made in house, the chef has some skill. The restaurant has a great feel. The location is wonderful on the walking trail and river front. Get a table outside if you can in summer. The restaurant was only 50% full the entire time we were there and the kitchen was slow. At least 45 minutes between each course, so have your phone charged or things to talk about at the table. We came in tasked for a table, we were told they only had one table left and it was the worst table they had. Honestly the tables only negatives were the visible spiders and the very small hornets nest. But we were outside so no big deal. What annoyed us was the fact we walked by 5 tables that were perfect for our party size. 2 tables were never used in the 2+ hours we were there. Don't lie to me they are claimed and if so many are Reserved put a sign on them.

Yelp
Good food reasonably priced. Nice ambiance. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Xxxxxxxxx

Yelp
I love that locals sources their food from the Valley. I also love the house that it's located in. The food is good, it just doesn't leave me wanting more.

Yelp
Ambiance is top tier. Menu is easy but exceptional. Food is very delicious and presented in the most elegant way. Worth the price.

Yelp
The ambiance is the thing here. Inside and out this is a nice place. I rate the service as top notch. Really good. The food? It's ok. Bland. All talk no action. No flavor. Food for older folks? Dunno

Yelp
MUST TRY! This local classic/fine dining serves out of the world food, desserts, wine and excellent service. For the price you pay, every bite is worth it. The dining room has a classy and elegant vibe. Their attention to details is appreciated. It reminded me of my French dining experience. Before my Locals Seafood Linguine was served, they brought me this complimentary fresh shrimp and goat cheese on bruschetta. It was a very delightful surprise! That was my first take of freshness from this restaurant. They also brought me a slice of pumpkin seed bread with this mixed vegetable spread made of chick peas, pumpkin, potatoes and spice. Again, so fresh and flavourful, especially on this piece of warm bread! The Seafood Linguine was served on a hot hot plate which keeps the flavours more delicious. First things that caught my eyes were the huge scallop and jumbo prawns, not to mention about the creaminess and the chubby mussels! The whole presentation was very appetizing already. The scallop was cooked perfectly! Wait until I took my first bite, the freshness bursted inside my mouth at once! The white fish and the candied salmon added another layer of texture and taste to this divine dish. The portion is perfect although I'm sure I could have 2 of these plates. However, I wanted to save room for dessert. Fall is the season for some pumpkin dessert. This seasonal pumpkin mustard (Rhonda's Fall Harvest Delight) was smooth and refreshing. It was on their 3-course menu but you can order just the dessert. The flavours of pumpkin, pecan, popcorn, caramel, maple orange and vanilla in different forms go so well together. The acidic and sweet orange breaks the richness of pumpkin and pecan. That will keep you going and going... When I paid the bill, the server gave me another surprise - a cocoa and cashew chocolate! What a piece of fine chocolate! This place is great for special gathering or when you just want to treat or pamper yourself or your love ones!

Yelp
Excellent food and presentation, friendly customer service. Restaurant has a quaint seaside cottage vibe

Amy L.

Yelp
Very disappointed in the customer service, not the table service but the lack of willingness to seat us at a mostly empty restaurant when earlier had been told they do not accept patio table reservations and when we came to sit at the patio they would not seat us in case reservations for inside wanted the patio Confusing

Yelp
Top quality ingredients, quality and presentation, excellent food and one of Comox Valley's top restaurants

Yelp
In Courtenay for a quick visit and stopped in for a magnificent lunch! A lovely and welcoming setting with waitstaff that was very friendly and accommodating. We were instantly charmed when my father-in-law was allowed to order oysters from the dinner menu at lunch. We enjoyed the Salmon Tartar to awaken the palate. I ordered the lamb burger which was topped with a taste bud gripping blue cheese and lemon aioli! The meat was juicy and well prepared, and the natural lamb flavor shined through in every bite! Highly recommended!

Yelp
3.5/5. My husband and I came to this restaurant for our last night of our vacation. The atmosphere was nice and romantic and not to busy around you if you wanted to share a nice meal with someone. Unfortunately we found for the price of the food and the taste of it all it fell short. We had the pork belly scallops and prawns were quite good. The bread of course always my favourite was good although since your paying for it I think a herb butter or oil would have paired with it better. I had the bacon wrapped beef tenderloin was over cooked to the medium rare I asked for. It was good not great, the taste wasn't amazing for the price and I think the sauce they used and the onions over powered it a bit too much. The portion size was perfect though. The green curry prawns and scallops that my husband had was quite bland even with the Kim chi side. Perhaps not the best order from them but was hoping it would have a bit more flavour. The creme brûlée trio was great and always a favourite of mine. We also had an old fashioned (great) and a melon Bellini (great) and black raspberry mojito (delicious). We were also hoping for a really nice view of the pier which did not happen, but it was a very well maintained park like area. The service was good. So overall we were slightly disappointed, it was definitely a good meal but just not a great meal.
google avatar

Chloe C.

Yelp
Fantastic ambiance with decent food. I'm not sure it's worth the price though. A couple of vegan options on the menu, and I chose the 'crab' cakes (2.5/5). They were quite flavourful (bit spicy) but the portion left a lot to be desired since it only two small pieces. A few things to make this better would be to make the chickpeas crispier, roast the cauliflower more, and add flavour to the aioli (which didn't taste like much but was quite creamy). I enjoyed the purée under the crab cakes, but the crab cakes themselves were more like falafel in terms flavour and texture, which threw me off a little. Perhaps a different seasoning could be used.

Yelp
My BC family adventure took us to Locals. A beautiful heritage house with thriving flower gardens located right on the water. It has a vintage feel with stone walls and exposed beams; they also have a covered patio. BC is very environmentally aware, even their restaurants. They source everything locally to, not only minimize the footprint, but the close the 'producer-consumer gap.' Their menu identifies where the ingredients came from. I don't know about you, but I like knowing who else I'm supporting when I eat at restaurant. We started with drinks and apps. My Aunt and I split the Vegetarian Aloo Tikki($14) and my Dad and Uncle got the Seared Jumbo Scallops($17). The Tikki was savoury and fabulous. It had mixed bean sprouts with tamarind, pickled veggies, dates all piled on a tender Indian potato cake with a mint and cilantro sauce. It was an unusual mix, in both taste and texture, but it worked with just a hint of curry flavour. It wasn't spicy, but it definitely hit the spot. The gents made quick work of their scallops. They were beautifully served on a lettuce leaf with smooth carrot and cream puree. Fancy! 3 of us ordered the same entrée, because we simply couldn't order something else after we saw it. 3 words: Prosciutto Wrapped Halibut($34). How can you say no?? My Aunt wanted to try something else, knowing she could sample off someone else's plate; she chose the Jumbo Prawns & Scallop Thai Curry($35). The halibut steaks were divine. The thick halibut absorbed just a little of the prosciutto flavours and was served on baked polenta with veggies. I think if I come back here, I'll have a hard time NOT ordering this again. My aunts jumbo pasta dish arrived as advertised. The prawns and scallops took up most of the bowl! The seafood and rice took to the sweet coconut broth and mild heat of the green curry. Simply delicious. In between ordering and courses, our server would bring us a sample of a dish. I've rarely experienced getting 1 sample, but 3?! Over the time of our visit, we received 3 different samples to try and each of them were delectable. From ceviche right to hand-crafted chocolate filled treats, they're doing their best to reel you in for the next visit and if I lived nearby, it would have worked! I'm surprised more restaurants don't give samples. *HINT HINT* The service was perfect. Each person was professional, but very personable. It's always nice when you all can have a few laughs. If I ever return to the Comox Valley, I'll be back!

Yelp
I had the portobello mushroom eggs benny. I'm a big fan of eggs benny and I'd say that I'm often very critical, but this place had a great one! The home made biscuit was really the star of the show, as well as the perfectly cooked eggs! Friendly service as well made the experience perfect! The quiet pavilion was a quaint setting for a restaurant, hidden in a small island town. The perfect brunch spot!
google avatar

Nicole G.

Yelp
Ok. This is probably our favourite restaurant in the area. It's unreal. Great patio, great service... but the food.... THE FOOD. It's so good, we honestly could sit there all day and eat the entire menu. Atmosphere is 5/5 too. Absolutely cannot go wrong with eating here.
google avatar

Yelp
Rarely do I offer five stars. A restaurant has to be truly superb to to breathe in the rarified air of a five star Davo rating. Well Locals is darn near the best restaurant I have been to in North America. It's a beautiful place at a wonderful resort hotel. We needed to book and went in to the main dining room in the early evening. First I must say the room itself is a class above most. Second, the tables are stylishly laid and the staff are, as a group, the best I have encountered. So, to the food. The seafood chowder was very nice. The bread was equally good and the little beet salad, especially prepared for my wife, was wonderful. I ordered a bison, bacon, mushroom, pasta dish which was world class. My wife ordered a trio of seafood with a Japanese coleslaw. The scallops, prawns and crab were absolutely as above. Truly world class! The we had desert. Oh boyoboyoboyoboy! Silky smooth crème brulee in three different flavors, a lemon meringue cheesecake, cherry pie and other wonderous stuff made us seek a second helping. While the cost was a little more than most, it still represented great value for money. The only disappointment was the noise. We sat in a quiet corner for a romantic interlude over dinner and were dismayed when 10 rowdy youngsters were seated right next to us. Of course we could have asked to be moved, but that would have meant...moving; and we were a little too relaxed, and filled, to be bothered. This is a great restaurant in a great hotel in a wonderful little town.

Yelp
Beautiful place. Cute patio in a really old building. The food was really good - not stellar but certainly well above average.
google avatar

Jackie S.

Yelp
Expensive for what you get and lack of variety. Gave it a try a few times. Nice patio though

Annette M.

Yelp
Impeccable service. Great wine selection. Our appetizers were divine. Grilled prawns and the seared scallops were cooked to perfection. My partner was not convinced by the broth in the bouillabaisse but the seafood was wonderful. My steelhead salmon was wonderfully cooked and very tasty. Locals is the only place I will order a risotto from and it did not disappoint. We did not need it but we could not resist sharing dessert. A berry pie with a lavender gelato that was amazing. It was a terrific evening.
google avatar

Dave M.

Yelp
Phenomenal food!! It's not cheap, but worth every cent and then some. Highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
What an extraordinary place. Quite frankly, the most satisfying risotto I've ever had. Then again, I adore chanterelles, and it was chock full of them. The oysters Rockefeller were outstanding, coated in butter and cooked to perfection, and a little added lemon took them out of this world. Mixed grill was loaded with tender and flavourful venison, melt-in-you mouth fillet and savoury sausage. Trip of cream brûlée was worth the trip all on its own.

Caroline N.

Yelp
This restaurant looked promising on its' website with creative sounding food so we made a reservation - when we arrived and realized it was connected to a hotel, we were prepared for the fact that it might not be as good as expected and we were right. It was absolutely packed so obviously a local favourite - and the atmosphere was very nice - cozy, warm and inviting. The server was great as well. But the food. Just not very good. The West Coast Cakes appetizer which listed artichoke and hearts of palm as the first ingredients didn't appear to have either of those ingredients - it tasted mainly of chickpeas which weren't fully cooked. The raita was missing in action and the portion of lemon aioli was also extremely skimpy. The Thai Curry Seafood dish was bland and didn't taste like anything resembling Thai flavour. It seemed very much like a family restaurant so it's possible that the flavours were toned down but we were really disappointed, particularly when the cheque arrived - $175.00 for one appetizer, a Curry dish and one bottle of wine.
google avatar

Lindsay N.

Yelp
They called us in the afternoon to push our reservation forward 15 minutes from 7:15 because of a 40 person group (can you even book such a huge group during Covid?!). That was fine but when we arrived at 7:30, we were asked to wait at a second table which we did until 8:15. Finally seated we ordered and waited, and waited, and waited. At 8:45 we finally asked about our order which had apparently gone to another table. We ate at 9:05. The food, when it arrived, was phenomenal. The halibut risotto, gem oysters and mussels were outstanding as was the creme brûlée. One more note, the restaurant has hand sanitizer everywhere, but are not delivering food safely to each table in the same way. And there is no social distancing being practiced between servers and with pay pads at all. We were comped the food portion of our bill.
google avatar

Wilson L.

Yelp
Very delicious food here! The staff are super nice and the food is always good.Highly recommend checking this place out if you haven't already! One of my favourite spots when I'm visiting this town.

Yelp
At one time this local charmer was known as The Old House. You were guaranteed a fantastic dining experience. We had not visited it since the name changed to Locals and saved it for a special night......our anniversary. What a Bummer!!! Due to covid the restaurant was scantily occupied. In spite of that we waited and waited. Finally someone stopped to take our order. Then we waited and waited for appetizers. When it came there were 3 scallops on the plate, hardly enough for one let alone two. Then we waited and waited. When our entree arrived it was tasty enough, but the portion sizes were dime sized. We left feeling ripped off. It was not a pleasant event. Our hostess knew we were not pleased, but she was quite wooden and did not help the experience. We wish now we had gone elsewhere and will not be back.

Yelp
This is a good Resturant. It is cozy and intimate. My seafood trio was over cooked or I would have given it a 5 star. I will go back for sure.
google avatar

Orph O.

Yelp
Wow! I can see why this place has such good reviews. It's been a long time since I've had a meal like that! The bread they brought to the table when we were seated was delicious! Then my seafood dish came and it was perfect. Scallops done to perfection along with big prawns in a wonderful curry sauce. I could've licked that plate clean. Tempting. And the service was stupendous! I look forward to returning SOON.

Yelp
Excellent food locally sourced with friendly staff. Located next door to The Old House Hotel. Intimate atmosphere. I always look to go here, any time I am in town.

Yelp
Locals offers a fantastic atmosphere and 5 star food that is almost impossible to find on the island outside of Victoria. I have never had a better cooked scallop. Beautiful brown hard crust on the outside while remaining just slightly translucent in the center. Perfect! Everyone else raved about their meal as well!
google avatar

Emerald W.

Yelp
Phenomenal locally sourced creations that I would definitely go back for. The seared scallops with pork belly on carrot purée and kale was a burst of flavour.

Yelp
I have been to locals four times now. On the lunch menu, I have had the duck, beet and goat cheese salad. The duck was stringy with quite a bit of cold fat stuck to it. The rest of the salad was lovely. I have ordered the trio sliders which were very good, love the bun as well. I have ordered the mussels with fennel and ginger cream sauce. The Mussels were not, tender they were overcooked, I did not care for the sauce. I wouldn't recommend this dish. The dinner menu, We started with the Nettle and asparagus soup it was very good, smooth texture and flavourful with incredible colour. I choose the grill trio Duck Breast, steak and sausage. Potatoes with truffle oil. I was concerned about the truffle oil because sometimes it can overwhelm the palette then you can't taste anything else. My concern was unfounded the truffle oil was spot on. The duck breast was cooked perfectly and very tasty. The steak, however, was very chewy and I had ordered medium rare it was medium well. I did not care for the sausage it was dry and difficult to chew. Would have been a better plate it the sausage wasn't there at all. My husband ordered the seafood linguini which was very nice, however, there was so little pasta it was almost comical. The seafood was all good except the prawns if you call yourself Locals it should have been a side stripe or a spot prawn from our waters, unfortunately, it was not. After spending over 130$ for dinner My husband was still hungry when we left. I think Locals should strive to make sure their price reflects the quality of their dishes.

Yelp
Yep, it's really that good. Stayed across the way at Old House and Locals seemed like the logical option for a late night feast. Other reviewers had mentioned some difficulties with procuring a table and/or the service; I certainly had no issues with either. Called ahead to make a reservation; probably wasn't crucial but ended up with a stellar table. Waitress was spot on, professional yet chatty and personable. Helped with drink selections and explained the menu very well. Ended up with the mussels & clams, half dozen oysters, and seafood linguini. Really appreciated the amuse bouche and treat with the bill. Also had the apple pie with lavender ice cream and rosemary whipped cream. Wow wow wow. Only quirk of the night (for me) was that the place was entirely empty by 9:30 pm! Island time, I suppose? Thanks, Locals, for one of the best meals of my trip on the island!

Yelp
1 star is for the cooks. Lack of remaining 4 stars is for terrible serving team. This place was my first experience on the island and it was dissapointment. Will not return

Yelp
We were recommended by the Hotel to go to Locals. As out of town visitors we most certainly did not expect the reception we got. First off, the restaurant was empty. We were asked "Do you have reservations?" Our reply was no as stated we were from out of town. Very rudely we were told we do not accept foot traffic until 7:00 pm. Excuse me, this LOCALS restaurant should make it abundantly clear to HOTELS/MOTELS close to this eatery that their guests should in no way shape or form approach the doors before 7:00 pm. Don't talk to down to people who don't know your eating schedules. Next business trip to Courtenay even now, knowing we need a reservation beforehand, won't even be considered. And I HAD to give you one star to log this.
