😊: It is an unique experience to stay in a pallazzo in front of the Genova catedral that actually is affordable to common people! The room was amazing, huge, impecably clean, with beatifull windows to the square. The service is simple - on line and whattsapp - but caring and friendly. Good advices and thrustfull. Grazie mille Cristina!. 😢: We are not big fans of on line check in, but communication was perfect and clear..

😊: The location is very central and the building is a restored historical palazzo.. 😢: The palazzo is undoubtedly beautiful and full of history, but it is not at all adapted for hosting guests in summer. Even at night, the temperature in our room was around 30 degrees, making it absolutely impossible to sleep. The photos online show stunning restored rooms with frescoes, but our family room was nothing like that — it had low ceilings and very unusual beds. For three people, we had one 1,5 bed and two single beds, but the single beds were extremely short, making it unclear how an adult is supposed to fit comfortably and how two adults can sleep on 1,5 bed. It’s also important to note that this is not really a hotel but more like apartments. There is no reception, and all communication is done via WhatsApp. That didn’t bother us much, but the lack of air condition and unbearable heat in summer is a major downside. I imagine that staying here in autumn or winter might be much more pleasant, but in summer the experience was, honestly, quite difficult..

I had a two-night reservation in August 2025 for my wife and 7-year old daugther. The neighborhood is dodgy and the hotel almost looks abandoned. There is no personnel at all in the hotel. Minimum decoration, everything looks old. Only good point is the facade of the building which is rather nice. We felt very bad and almost scared in this environment and left after 5 minutes in our room. A hotel to run from. Joshua

I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. First, its location is excellent hidden away by the Duomo, but very quiet. The room was great with 2 double beds and ample space. And very comfortable. However, the bathroom space is very limited. Not only that it has a marble floor which is very slippery when wet and potentially dangerous. Although it was quite palatial, it somehow lacked character and felt 'cold' in ambience.

Impossible that this is a 4 star anything. There are no amenities with poor to non existent service. The website is flashy but they are totally misrepresenting this ’residence’. It’s essentially a rooming house in a very central location. But there are many others that are central. I would never stay here again nor recommend it. For example, the shower gel came in a small plastic packet that was cheap and awkward to use and they didn’t give us enough for our entire stay. It was impossible to see anyone here. There is no front desk. You need a phone to contact them, so if you’re coming from North America, you better upgrade your plan and buy phone service too. This has been the worst place I’ve stayed in.

In a corner of Piazza San Lorenzo, a short walk away from the Ducal Palace and the piazza de Ferrari, this B&B located within a historic palazzo, is strategically positioned in a quiet but safe neighbourhood. Most of the tourist sights of Genoa (including the waterfront) are within walking distance and high-street shopping in the vicinity. While the historic centre tends to be vehicle-free, both the metro and the taxi stands are not too far away.||||After several memorable stays several years ago, my last visit to this B&B was certainly not the best with a messy check-in experience and rather unprofessional service. This time after several years, with a value-for-money, last-minute booking, late arrival at 9:30 pm and an early check-out the next day, I really didn't know what to expect... ||||However I have to say that although I didn't meet a soul, this visit was far more organised than my earlier (mis)adventure. The host WhatsApped me all the details to access the property (in English and Italian). My entry into the historic palazzo which houses the hotel, was easy and uneventful. Just as informed, I found my keys and reservation details on a vacant reception desk. ||My room with attached bath, was large, clean, well-maintained and comfortable and despite the lack of observed habitation, although travelling as a single woman, I did not find it unsafe. Checked-out, incident-free after a shower and a good night's rest. ||||While the description of my entry and exit experience may be a bit disconcerting for someone who have never traveled to Genoa or stayed in the B&B, it's also true that I had an unusual schedule. ||||Like many B&B's you won't find a 24-hour, on-site service here (although they do have an emergency contact number for the night), but if you are looking for a quality, mid-budget accommodation in the heart of the historic centre of the city and plan to check-in an an earthly hour, I would recommend this property as a good option. ||||The added authenticity of living in a historic building with modern amenities, in my opinion makes it quite the adventurous, immersive experience!

This hotel is located in the centre of the historic area if Genoa, about 10m from the piazza in front of the cathedral. There were always 2- 3 police cars in the area. Its a great location to visit the many hidden historic attractions of Genoa. Our room was large (about 50sq metres) and warm. Modern furnishings and overall top class. The minibar was free and included a few snacks for a light breakfast.||The hotel is more like a serviced apartment with a very pleasant manager sitting at a desk in the lounge. He finishes work at 9.0pm so make sure that you have the entry codes that are emailed to you. ||There is one huge disadvantage to this property and we will not be returning. Its an old building with a high fire risk. There are no smoke detectors or sprinkler systems that I could see,||In the even of an emergency the exit is not intuitive. You go up a few steps and down the other stairs on the other side. Those who are fans of the John Cleese comedy "Fawlty Towers" will understand.||A great room, great location, but don't stay here until their fire precautions are upgraded

Lovely old palazzo style residence smack bang in the middle of the city. Perfect for what we wanted.

Yelp
This is a great location in Genoa for touring the city sights. We had a nice view of the Genoa Cathedral from our hotel window. If you're looking for something with nice water views then you probably want to head a little ways outside of Genoa. It's a large port city so most of the water area in town is for big ships and docks. The room we had was large and fit 3 easily. The quality is a little run down but it was very inexpensive.

Yelp
I have to tell you, reading some of the other online reviews of Locanda di Palazzo Cicala is making me very nervous but my personal experience last Sept. was good. First of all, be forewarned, Genova--in particular the historic city center--is a dangerous place. Many areas of Genova, such as the historic center, supersede the absolute worst neighborhoods of NYC. I personally never liked Genova as a whole, but my family lives there so I go.... (Plus I LOVE the authentic focaccia LOL.) I can't recall my room number at Locanda di Palazzo Cicala but it was very nice and it was INSIDE the actual building in Piazza San Lorenzo 16, next to the historic Cathedral of San Lorenzo. There was No shuffling around to other buildings/properties for me! My room was lovely; obviously historic, very large with these very high 17th century ceilings and antiques. The ceilings and partial fresco's that remained from the 17th century were just lovely. I loved being able to stay in such a historic space even if just for a few days. The space was quiet with a view of San Lorenzo. Parts of the hotel were historic while other parts were ultra modern looking. The customer service was OK; I had no problems. And the hotel itself was conveniently located to restaurants, locales, the historic center etc. I wouldn't mind staying here again.
