Locanda La Gelsomina

We stayed here for 5 nights on our first visit to Malta. ||I would recommend Birgu as a location, lovely old sandstone buildings, lots to do and lots of character, Valetta a 10 minute boat ride.|||| Locanda le Gelsomina is beautifully presented with quirky individual details. Our bedroom was very comfortable and spacious, equally beautifully presented, with effective a/c and lovely en suite. The hostess was happy to help us with getting tickets for the Hypogeum plus many useful tips on places to go both for dining and sightseeing ...she definitely added value to what was already a lovely break.||||We would love to visit again.

When you walk in at Locanda La Gelsomina your senses are peacefully transformed into a magic of old world sophistication and romantic historic charm. This beautifully historic bed and breakfast hotel boutique is perfectly managed by family members who hold true to heart what it means to run a family bed and breakfast. Marcella, who is the owner has put her heart and soul into making this boutique hotel a paradise nestled peacefully amongst the limestone buildings of Birgu. Our Suite was nicely accommodating and We especially looked forward to breakfast every morning which was always so beautifully and exceptionally prepared. Marcella's homemade jams would simply make you go back to visit and give her a big hug. She is a lovely woman. Rosella, Marcella's daughter is a breath of fresh air when staying here and visiting Malta. She is a beacon of knowledge of the entire Island. She went well beyond her means of professionalism acting as concierge extraordinaire by helping us plan multiple day trips all over Malta and as well as recommending the best restaurants for lunch and dinner. Our visit would not have been as adventurous and meaningful without her helping us plan our daily day trips. We absolutely felt right at home at Locanda La Gelsomina and we will definitely be planning on returning. We highly recommend this romantic hidden diamond in Birgu.

Locanda La Gelsomina is a luxurious, yet cozy Asian themed B&B in a historic building. Our room was clean and very well maintained. We especially liked the information we got ahead of our trip and help in organizing certain activities.||The location is perfect if you prefer to stay away from the crowds. There are some very good restaurants nearby, which can be reached in a few minutes by foot. Valletta can be easily reached by ferry. In general, an ideal base to explore Malta.||Suggestions for improvement: The "theft proof" hangers and wall-mounted hair drier seemed a bit out of place. Furthermore, we'd expected a wider range of toiletries, such as conditioner or cotton buds, as we usually travel rather light.||That said, we would return to Locanda La Gelsomina and recommend staying there if you value a smaller place off the beaten track.

We stayed three nights occupying suites 2 & 4. We all loved the decor, the extra large rooms, huge bathroom and most of all, Rossella’s endless patience and devotion to make our visit a success. We found the location to be best for us. Very quiet neighborhood, and yet 2 to 4 minutes from the waterfront where yo can either stroll on the Birgu side, cross the bridge to another one of the three cities (Senglea) or take the ferry to Valletta. |Breakfasts were good, though adding vegetables would be nice. Bottom line, if you want to avoid the crowded luxury hotels, this is a perfect choice.

A brilliant start to our mini tour of Malta and Gozo we stayed here for 3 nights in suite 4. A beautifully designed and thought out bedroom and bathroom on the top floor, there is a massive, very comfy bed, a double shower and double sinks. |Breakfast was varied and delicious, particularly the fruit and homemade cakes/pastries. L really loved the different honeys!|All the family made you feel incredibly welcome, were very helpful and we will definitely return on our next trip to Birgu!

I was sad to leave La Locanda Gelsomina as Rossella did her very best to create a home from home. She considerately took care of every detail for my sister and I - over 30 emails were exchanged in preparation for our trip, tours were arranged, yoga lessons and spa sessions organised and dinners were reserved. The property is wonderful - do take care to use the closet and not get limestone on your clothes. The food was lovely and the rooms were cleaned daily. The yoga break with Szilvia was wonderful and we look forward to being return guests.

Exceptional. I recently stayed at Locanda La Gelsomina for a three night getaway in what is a truly historical and authentic luxury accommodation. The owners offered us refreshers on our arrival and were helpful in giving us hints and tips during our visit. Birgu is beautiful and is a short ferry ride away from Valletta itself. Top marks for the tranquility too! Highly recommended, especially for couples!

An absolutely fabulous stay. Within walking distance of ferry or bus to Valletta. Rosella is a delightful hostess. Very quiet location in old city with beautiful small winding streets. A truly scrumptious breakfast. Restaurants and wine bars close by. Most definitely recommend this 5 star Boutique accommodation.
