On the Grid : Lockwood Restaurant

"Go to the Palmer House hotel main entrance on Monroe Street. Follow the stairs up past the gilded statue. Sit at the bar or sit on a green sofa chair. If the lobby is crowded, give the staff a nod and you’ll be in good hands. Order a cocktail or a pop. The chips are homemade and great. Also anything with cheese. Most important part is the ceiling, so come prepared to look up." - IA Collaborative

This restaurant is inside the historic Palmer House. The atmosphere is grandiose until you enter into the quiet space of the restaurant. A wonderful experience in the middle of downtown. It's an amazing treat to walk into this building! We enjoyed our breakfast order. Our server was quick to make substitutions. He was also quick with coffee, tea and water. Portions are generous.

Fantastic all around restaurant and bar located inside the Palmer House Hotel. The food is delicious and well made. The service was quick and friendly. The wait staff was knowledgeable and amazing. The Salmon was absolutely perfect. The steak was excellent but the garlic potato fries honestly blew me away..I have never had such great fries! Would 100% visit again. Absolutely amazing.

I was staying at the Palmer House, so ordered a few drinks and small bites to eat in the lobby. I sat at one of the tables in the lobby, but they have wait staff for all the tables. Started off with the Palmer House Brownie and Old Fashioned. Brownie is a traditional taste and not the overly sweet one many are used to. Both were good, so ordered a Flatbread Pizza and Bloody Mary. I wanted the Bloody Mary to be spicier, but was still good. Good, casual bites to enjoy while hanging out in the nice Palmer House lobby.

The food was phenomenal! The burger was what we expected-it was so good! Along with the clam chowder soup and the pork belly bao, which was both surprisingly good!! Don't second guess just get it. Overall, We were pleased with our service, such a sweet night and good conversation with our waiter who is from Bangladesh, nice and open guy!!

We came here for breakfast throughout our stay at the Hilton. Staff are incredibly friendly and do a very good job. Breakfast items were lovely and of good value. Can strongly recommend the chocolate croissant

Google
Sent me the wrong order after waiting over 30 min. Meat was cooked like any backyard steak, nothing special about it at all. Drinks took over 20 min to get a beer, and Pepsi.... bar was busy with about 10-15 people. *** Brownies was the worst ever, taste old and not worth it at all*** When in Chicago, don't give so many excuses for poor service.

Google
Tentative service even when they are busy. It is great convenience to stay at the Palmer hotel and have daily $25 credit toward the restaurant. Came here for breakfast everyday we stayed at the hotel. They know their food well. Everything was done with good timing. Absolutely delighted to have fluffy egg omelette and tasty muffin. The biscuit and gravy was delicious. The brownie pancakes were a treat. Beautiful lobby and dining area. Would highly recommend anyone to try their menu. Classic and wonderfully prepared.

Yelp
Just came for a drink. I fancy seasonal menus and "limited-time" menu options all the time. I saw the Vanilla Chai Tea White Russian and I had to have it. In my mind, I was thinking notes of cinnamon, clove, vanilla, and cardamom. I got punched in the face by star anise. The drink itself was good, but I wouldn't add "chai" in the name of it when it tastes more like an espresso martini. The garnishes were too much. Who needs an entire stick of cinnamon and two star anise cloves? Answer, no one. It just seemed wasteful and they wanted the smell to bring those flavors of vanilla chai. Star anise is a strong smell, so it hits you right there and makes it hard to taste the other flavors. Smell is part of the tasting experience. No comments on the service as I was not there for long to give a proper review of it. The Palmer House is a classy location and the Lockwood Restaurant and Bar is right in the middle of the lobby area, surrounded by the ornate, classical decor. Love it. Overall, the drink needs some work, especially with how it's being consumed as an experience.

Yelp
Stopped by in the afternoon and was asked to sit in the lobby area to receive service. The server never came to our table after 15 minutes, and I don't necessarily think this was the fault of our server. Sitting in the lobby, we were next to tables with very clear patrons who were ordering beverages and small bites, but guests with no clear intention of eating were also sitting at the same tables. Confusing! After eventually going to the bar to order, the bartender (thankfully) told us that the dishes we wanted to order were better found in Lockwood Express, the grab-and-go version of the restaurant, for almost half the price. We picked up some things, alongside the historic brownie (mildly chocolatey, which I was thankfully into).

Yelp
We had a 20 minute wait so we went to our room for a bit until our table was ready. We were seated and immediately given a menu. We ordered a burger and a steak. The burger was probably one of the best I've had and the steak was amazing. The fries were also crunchy and fresh (I like them crunchy). The food was absolutely amazing and I would definitely be back!

Yelp
This was well worth the price considering the awful breakfast we had somewhere else. The toast isn't burnt. It is pumpernickel and it tasted like they got it from a special bakery. It wasn't like any other pumpernickel that I've had before. The servers worked in tandem and both were quick and efficient.

Yelp
Stayed at the Palmer and decided to eat breakfast here because we had food & beverage credit here. I ordered the All American which included eggs, bacon & fruit with toast on the side. The restaurant is located in the lobby area of the Palmer and right behind the bar. I was surprised how small it was inside and kind of reminded me of a cafe inside of a local casino. I thought the service was just ok. The food was really nothing write home about. Just your normal fair that you would get at a Denny's or something. The only reason we came here is due to the daily credit we had. But I would recommend you walk outside and eat at one of the other places. There's a corner bakery right outside.

Yelp
Convenient spot inside the Palmer House. Live music is always plus. Food was delicious. The fried green tomatoes was our favorite. Service was a bit slow. Recommend you pour your own beer unless you like 3/4 glass of head .

Yelp
Stopped in the Palmer House to see its amazing lobby and stayed for a drink. I just love this historical hotel and wanted to show it to my friends. So we spent an hour sipping cocktails in style. We sat in the lounge chairs in the center of the room, which has an amazing server that comes around. My Bloody Mary was just the right level of spicy and very delicious. Definitely recommend this stopover if you're shopping down State St.

Yelp
One of the most iconic and stunning interiors, curated and maintained as a feast for the eyes with painted ceilings, fine furnishings; I could sing it's praises all day long- but... The management has decided this is not just an iconic landmark, it's a sports bar too. Replete with huge televisions that literally no one was watching, this beautiful place has chosen to cheapen itself with sports games. Basketball on one tv, football, talking heads, commercials, all for what? It's a shame and if a Chicago team were in the playoffs, maybe? Pick a lane Palmer House! Some very thoughtful people built a great establishment, you have cheapened it in the most tacky approach possible.

Yelp
Located in the mezzanine of the famous Palmer Hotel, I stopped by this Chicago institution on Michelle W's recommendation for a nightcap after my Saturday dinner. I'm guessing I arrived close to last call and on a day of proms and whatnot because service did feel a little rushed. I mean, there was little banter or other recommendations. That's why I can only rate this three stars. The space itself is beautiful with floor and ceiling mosaics, which I had seen earlier during one of the architecture tours. My drink, the Armstrong - captain Morgan, orange and tiki bitters - was actually pretty smooth and well mixed.

Yelp
Had to bounce between two and three stars for a while. Settled on 3, but still. The restaurant is located at the Palmer House hotel where I was staying. I visited the restaurant twice for breakfast, and the food was very good (had steel cut oatmeal and overnight oats, both tasty and well presented). Then I stopped by for dinner. First I got chicken soup, which was good, but honestly sounded better on the description. As my main dish I decided on lobster roll. Big mistake, very big. I live in New England, and I know very well what is good lobster roll. What was brought to my table looked like a hotdog bun with maybe a two ounces of lobster, almost dry. Both taste and size were pitiful, so for $28 I mainly got very tasty French fries. The Palmer House hotel is beautiful and worth seeing it. But if you know what the real lobster roll is, my only recommendation is to avoid this dish. Service was excellent during all of my visits.

Yelp
+ Great vibe + Convenient if you're a hotel guest + Good menu - Rude hostess - Never even got served water - Had to get up and check with hostess because no one acknowledged us and was told someone will come, told her okay but we've already been waiting 10 minutes and when I walked away she said, "It hasn't been 10 minutes" That rudeness isn't acceptable so we left. Equally disappointing as a customer off the street, a hotel guest, and a Hilton honors member, on every level. That employee needs retraining and coaching on customer service.

Yelp
We came to check out the historic building. We arrived during Happy Hour and it was super busy. We were fortunate enough to arrive just when a couple was leaving. The bartenders were friendly and quick. The menu not too exhaustive. The lounge singer had a good repertoire. Overall, we enjoyed our few hours hanging out at this iconic bar. We ordered: Marinated olives Bertha's brownies Sazerac The Duchess. Although it doesn't contain Jaggermeister, it strongly gives off the scent of Jaggermeister. Thank goodness it did not taste like it! Local rye whiskey Cocktails at The Lobby Bar. Fun times

Yelp
Staying here at the Palmer House Hotel, we thought we would give the restaurant a try. Food is good. A bit pricey but understandable since it is in a hotels waitstaff was nice. After our meal I was so looking forward to the apple crisp with mascarpone and candied pecans. Disappointment came when it was served without the pecans.

Yelp
The Palmer House Hilton is exquisite and the restaurant doesn't disappoint. I had several visits to the bar which has a wonderful atmosphere and great service. For breakfast I had the most wonderful omelette with onions, spinach and mushrooms. The berries were spectacular. I commented to the server and she remarked that their produce is very fresh! The Palmer House Hilton was where the browsing was invented so it's not to be missed!

Yelp
We were advised to come to this historic hotel to see the ceiling and have a drink. That's exactly what we did. We sat in nice, comfy chairs, and enjoyed two yummy martinis. I cannot comment on the food nor the rooms at this hotel because we just had our two martinis, stayed for a while, talked and then left. It is a beautiful place to just relax and have a nice conversation where you can actually hear each other talk.

Yelp
Was staying at the Palmer this week and the restaurant was very convenient especially for breakfast. Staff were great morning people and extremely lively. They actually worked hard to make sure your morning was off to a good start. Good food as I only had breakfast and I enjoyed their charroso gravy and biscuits just the right amount of kick for the day. Bacon was cooked the way I enjoy not to crispy and not too chewy.

Yelp
I came into town to visit my husband on a work trip. He hadn't had much luck with food since he got here so we took a chance and ate at the Lockwood which is downstairs in the Palmer House hotel. We were pleasantly surprised at how perfect this food was!! The salmon was tender and flavorful and the crab cake was delicious and the perfect late night portion. They had some signature cocktails but I had the margarita which was yummy. I would definitely recommend this place it's nice and the service was fast.

Yelp
We had dinner here our last night in Chicago. Our server was awesome. Our cocktails & dinners were perfect! It was pure luck that we got a table here on a Saturday evening without a res. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the hotel are super chill. I highly recommend visiting Palmer House if you're ever in Chicago.

Yelp
I Was eating a pizza in the lobby with 6 other people. The manager asked us to move up stairs. We did move up stairs and had an unfinished bill so he brought the bill up. I asked for him name and he did not give it to me. Would NOT give his name to me. I took a picture of him and he slapped my phone out of my hand and assaulted me. Do not go here

Yelp
This review is specific to the original brownie from Palmer House. I don't know if you can get this on the normal restaurant menu, I was told to just go to the store instead. For a single brownie, it was kind of expensive. The taste was nothing special. If you're already here it might be a neat thing to try the original brownie recipe, but with today's brownie recipes being so good there is no need to come here to try the original.

Yelp
Quite happy with my experience at Lockwood Bar AND their Lockwood Express. The restaurant & bar, located in the lobby of the famous Palmer House (Hilton) Hotel is breathtakingly beautiful. You come for the ambiance and stay for the cocktails. Operating primarily as a bar due to Covid-19, offering small plates and a limited menu from 4pm-9pm. Seating is widely available, with table options on the second floor, to give a bird's eye view of the architecture. We visited on NYE as guests of the hotel and found the servers to be attentive & welcoming. We enjoyed several rounds of Fitzgeralds and old fashioneds. Palmer House has their own private select spirits. The Lockwood Express is an excellent dining pivot during Covid. Located slightly off the lobby, it offers a wide array of snacks, beverages (alcoholic and non) and pre-packaged food items for purchase. I was impressed by the quantity and variety of items available. I was able to grab the last two "famous Palmer House" brownies." There is also a full service coffee bar with barista. Breakfast sandwiches can be ordered too. I think it's a safe way to operate during these challenging times.

Yelp
Solid hotel restaurant food. For ambiance, eat in the beautiful lobby instead of the restaurant itself. Plentiful staff and very attentive sevice. Hidden inside the Palmer House so probably doesn't get the attention it deserves.
google avatar

Yelp
Ambience, check! Service, check! Quality, check! Food, check! Once you get satiated with the view of the empire room, you are in for the next surprise, the dining experience! Though their menu is small, the service is amazing. I had ample vegetarian options to choose from and got the veggie panini and the avocado toast. The best I've had in a long time. The avocado was creamy and the bread was not brittle. The coffee, apple juice and the OJ went well with the food. it took time for us to get seated, so I would recommend you to beat the crowd. FYI, the sunny side up yolk never broke, phew!

Yelp
Very nice lounge in the Palmer House lobby. The setting was great, very cushy chairs and couches, ornate lobby decor, and live lounge music. The place is a little dated and could use some attention. The drinks were great, but the service a little slow. Nice place to talk with friends though.

Renee N.

Yelp
Marty our bartender is fantastic and extremely helpful . The drinks are so refreshing and the food is delicious and worth it. Definitely stop by to try this place. We will be back for sure and stay the night in the hotel.

Yelp
I stayed at the Palmer House for 3 nights and 3 days so I came here every morning for breakfast. It's located near the gorgeous lobby area that has beautiful works of art in the ceiling. I had Salvador as my waiter every morning and he was ON IT! After the first morning, he remembered how I like my coffee and that I would be ordering something different every morning. He was so kind and extremely speedy! The first morning, I ordered the Avocado Biscuits and they were so filling. The chipotle sauce they drizzled in the top was what made the dish really come together. The second morning I ordered the carrot cake overnight oats. Now I've been seeing this on menus recently so I figured I would give it a shot. It was to die for! I don't know if I would be able to make them as good as Lockwood, but WOW I was pleasantly surprised so the how they tasted. The last morning I only ordered toast and an apple because I knew I would be having a big breakfast. What a great hotel restaurant and you can't go wrong with having Salvador as your waiter. Great service and always has a smile!

Sandy K.

Yelp
Never managed to make this work. One night we had great service and a delicious soup - next two nights we were told to get our drinks from the convenience store. Disappointing in a hotel that was exceptional. Beautiful place, very rude service.

Angie T.

Yelp
Horrible service. Sat and waited over 20 mins to even order food. Was brought 1 menu for 6 ppl so we used the online menu and was told it wasn't accurate. So rechoose and 30 mins later 5 ppl received their food but because the ribeye sandwich wasn't on the 'real' menu they never placed a 6th order. Never came back to ask what we wanted instead. We are now over an hour in and still missing 1 persons food. Had to wait over 30 minutes for a glass of water. Never ever will I eat here again. Cool hotel but don't waste your time and money at this restaurant. Almost 2 hours, no bill, no refils and no 6th meal.
google avatar

Yelp
The food and service here are excellent. The only thing keeping me from awarding a fifth star is the limited menu. The coffee is excellent. The omelettes and oatmeal earn special mention for their breakfast fare. The prices are a bit high, but certainly in line for a hotel-based restaurant. The flatware and dinnerware and cloth napkins are commensurate with a classy establishment. They have a full bar that is always open and a full assortment of coffee and soft drinks. The waiters and waitresses go out of their way to give you what you need (Jill is my favorite-always a smile) and they can accommodate singles and very large groups.
google avatar

Yelp
Very, very pricey, but - you're paying for the history here. This is my overall review, as I had 4 meals here during my stay. 3 were breakfast and 1 was dinner. With that said, I did not pay for breakfast, and my dinner was 50% off. Hilton Honors perks, and associate discount. I work for Hilton. Breakfast - always has the buffet. It was plentiful, and lots of variety. Pastries, waffles, boiled eggs, salmon, scones, charcuterie, cereals, juices, coffee, yogurt, oatmeal! You name it! You could upgrade to more hot food. I did not find necessary. Service - PHENOMENAL. All the staff here is very attentive. I had both Jorge & Jill. Both great, BUT JILL- Jill, Jill - ASK FOR HER. SHE IS THE SYMBOL OF HOSPITALITY TO A "T". She also has a duo partner - Gillette- soooo not kidding. ALL GOOD THEM BOTH. They are a treat at breakfast time. (His real name is Tony) My dinner was a bit slower. Okay by me, as I had nowhere to rush to but my room. But, diners behind me had to be at a magic show, and even just got up from table before their check was brought out. I ordered a pasta dish, which came out too "al dente", and had the appearance of having sat on warmer light bulb a bit before it came out to me. So much so, the cheese was hard melted and stuck to the pasta. The Shrimp un it was huge, flavorful - almost lobster like. I enjoyed that. Then came dessert. I opted for the creme brûlée. It was more of egg brûlée. Not a good thing. Tasted too much like egg, not creamy as I'm used to. I did not eat the whole thing. Lastly, I ordered the Old Passioned. Oh my! Strong, flavorful and lovely. Will order again!

Yelp
I stayed at Palmer House three nights over a weekend, and decided to check out the restaurant in this beautiful historical hotel. We are big breakfast eaters, and the first day I had a two egg breakfast and the "hash browns" were practically potato logs with smoked paprika or something sprinkled on them. The fresh fruit cup was slightly below midrange, as some of it was past fresh and almost into cooking quality ripeness. I got my daughter the breakfast bowl and a cinnamon roll from the takeaway option next to the restaurant. She seemed to enjoy the cinnamon roll and breakfast bowl but it was pretty expensive. Service was fast and pleasant and I wish I had gone with this option myself. The mocha latte was good. Later in the day we tried the "Palmer House Brownie" which was oddly served cold, and tasted like a combination of fudge and brownie with a layer of chopped walnuts on the top. My daughter did not enjoy it, but I thought it was tolerable with hot coffee. The takeaway is offering $4 basic peanut butter and jelly sandwich on loaf bread and $2 bananas if you are desperate and have money to throw away. We had a last breakfast together the next day where I got an omelet and my daughter got pancakes. I don't know how you can mess up a pancake, but the flavor was definitely off and slightly chemical. My daughter ate the rest of my omelet which was a little thin on filling. Presentation was good but flavor and content was lacking. The waiter had to notice the pancakes had two bites missing when we left, but said nothing. Frankly, you are paying for the location when you come to this place. I won't argue that the location is beautiful, historical, and unique. I would be ashamed to ask $2 for a banana, or $4 for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on loaf bread. I don't know what else to say, except I wouldn't have eaten breakfast here a second time if it hadn't been chucking down rain outside. Come inside and grab a $5 coffee to check the place out, because that price is comparable to the Starbucks nearby, but I wouldn't do a full meal.

Yelp
Home of the brownie eh? We came, we stayed, we brownied it up...check! So I am not the biggest brownie fan but I can say I love soft brownies packed with that robust chocolate flavor. I can say this brownie was not soft. It was hard to slice through but not hard on my teeth. Presentation was A plus (especially decorating for my daughter's birthday!) The gelato, no idea what flavor, was delicious! During early afternoon hours they serve food in the hotel lobby area which is stunning! You feel very fancy and important in this architecturally amazing space. It would be worth hitting the bar here just for the view!

Yelp
This restaurant is a solid 3. It's really a shame because the Palmer House is an amazing historic hotel but they have not figured out how to create a comparable dining experience. The problem is that the kitchen tries and fails to create a fine dining experience commensurate with the stature of the property. We had two salads, beet and wedge, a crab cake starter and the salmon. Honestly there is no imagination in any of these dishes. The salmon is fine, it sits on wild rice with some sauce. There are shoestring potatoes but really this is just stale tasting bland potato threads. Just push them aside and eat the salmon with a few forkfuls of bland wild rice, the sauce is forgettable. The crab cake was probably the best with the slaw. Drinks are good but nothing memorable. Of course everything is quite expensive, disproportionate to the quality. The service was great, it's not their fault the kitchen doesn't have a clue. They should pivot to solid bar food, increase the breadth of the menu which is quite limited and give up on the fine dining concept. The Lockwood Bar has a great ambiance with a beautiful ceiling and cool seating, but the restaurant is off in a side room that can only be described as ugly. I didn't come to this beautiful property to eat dinner in Aunt Maude's foyer. If you are going to eat here, sit in the bar area and eat whatever they will serve you, we saw patrons smarter than us doing that. After dinner we tried to get coffee in the bar and we were told that it was grab and go. Really, I can't sit in this nice space and have a coffee in a ceramic cup? So many historic properties have been thoughtfully converted to elegant dining experiences. Shame on you Hilton for fumbling this so badly!

Yelp
well, there isn't any yelp listing for the lockwood express so i'm putting my review of the little grab and go spot next-door, here so we're tourists, and we're walking through chicago, enjoying all the wonderful architecture and millennium park, and one of the things you should try to do is just walk in to a bunch of these beautiful hotel/building lobbies at the palmer house, you can just grab one of the first, softest, fudge-iest brownies you've ever had at this place, and rest your feet with a little box of milk and enjoy the comings and goings of people in this beautiful hall i would recommend a visit here to anyone visiting chicago for the first time -- and i'm sure we'll be back, again and again :)

Jen L.

Yelp
I tried the lobster roll and it had more celery than lobster. For the price they charge I was expecting more lobster. It was very mediocre and bland.

Yelp
Excellent service! The food was delicious and the drinks were phenomenal! I sat at the bar so things were a little loud but it was still lovely.

Yelp
Get the brownie and ice cream. The ice-cream is this unique cherry ice-cream that was awesome. We had a handful of drinks too, but those were just okay. The lobby is huge and worth a visit. We checked out the Rat Pack area, which was closed off, but we helped our selves...

Yelp
Above average hotel restaurant inside the gorgeous Palmer House Hotel. Very nice setting, interesting menu. We had the Michigan salad with chicken and pasta Bolognese, both delicious. The pasta is fresh-made, the sauce mostly vegetables (carrot, celery and onion) built up with the gravy from the braised beef short rib that rests atop the pasta. Etruscan style, that is, no peppers or tomatoes,. What we think of Italian cuisine now is mostly the beautiful red sauces, but this is more pre-Columbian. The salad features local products, very nicely done. Cocktails here are generous pours. Overall, efficient service & welcoming staff. Recommend making a reservation if you're interested in the main dining room. I see that others have not received good service, but we enjoyed our visit. $66+ before tip, reasonable if a bit overpriced.
google avatar

Ina J.

Yelp
Wow was I impressed! Hotel restaurants are typically overpriced and not anything to brag about. Aside from the slow service at the nearly empty restaurant (we had an early reservation--hope you're not in a rush when dining here), Lockwood had impressive, flavorful food and drinks. Everyone was well pleased. Many gluten free options, including gluten free bread. I ordered the scallops, mashed potatoes, and Brussels/cauliflower dish. I would definitely go back to order it again. The scallops were very filling. And the presentation was beautiful.

Luke V.

Yelp
I was pretty disappointed with the breakfast here. I got a cinnamon roll ($5) and three pancakes ($16). The cinnamon roll did not taste fresh and was quite dry. It was probably not made that day. The pancakes themselves were alright. The menu states that the pancakes come with "maple syrup", but in fact they serve fake syrup. Leaving aside the inferior taste, it is false advertising for a restaurant to say they're serving something that they aren't. Real maple syrup is expensive, but this place isn't cheap. If they want to serve the fake stuff, they should at least list "pancake syrup" or "breakfast syrup" on the menu. It really shows no respect for their customers to lie to them. I wouldn't have ordered pancakes if I knew they were going to serve them with the fake syrup.

Yelp
Im sorry I haven't been to a terrible restaurant in a long time. If I could give the service 5 stars I would but this is about the food! Okay ... it's bland. They add all these extra veggie mush decorations to your food. Look! No one would like to eat that after a long day at work and come to eat and start the night for the weekend. Okay ... the baked chicken. Looked like a chicken breast worth less then $4 at the store. Salmon tasted like fresh fish straight out the water with a terrible green sauce. Potato soup was the best part. & Based on that ... I would not recommend eating here even if I stayed in the hotel. Yuke!

Yelp
Don't try the lobster roll ! It is perfect! My boss brought me here to talk about our case. We usually take advantage of eating time to work and of course she paid for my food lol. The place is well decorated. I like this kind of European style much! After lunch we went to lobby, there is a small place to work and charge your computer. Tips: if your BF are easily jealous! Don't forget to tell him you come here with your female boss! Lol

Yelp
I came in for high tea which is $55.00 while on the high side I do not mind paying as long as the service is good. Christine was my server she was beyond unprofessional and rude. Did not check on me once during tea service nor did she even bring me the bill. I had to bother the busboy and other servers for hot water plates etc. I've never had more unprofessional service at the Lockwood and I don't plan on returning. As for my food I find that the bread and pastries were stale unlike many other experiences I have had here. If you are looking for good food service etc go to your drake for tea

Yelp
Lockwood is unfailingly amazing! The food is fantastic and there is always something new on the menu. The meals and drinks are fabulous. I recommend the scallops, but you're safe trying anything there. Be sure to enjoy a Bertha Brownie for dessert--the brownie was invented at the Palmer House! The recipe is the same and it's top-notch. The lighting is dim and the dining area is usually nice and calm--perfect for a romantic night out.

Yelp
I went here for a pre-theater snack/drink. -they offer a coupon for a free appetizer with your "broadway in Chicago" ticket sleeve--which was very nice -main bar area is gorgeous with dramatic 30 foot ceilings and recently restored murals -very old school Chicago feel--very storied old hotel -service is a bit odd--they added an automatic caller button to summon your server which honestly felt awkward--especially in these fancy digs -prices high--charcuterie plate would've been $21--without coupon--wine glass was $12 -charcuterie plate was decent but not great--more quantity over quality--large portions but pretty much just prosciutto and salami Will come back for the view and atmosphere!

Yelp
I would give zero stars if it were possible. I am utterly horrified at the treatment we received here. The servers were the snobbiest, most condescending and least efficient we had ever encountered. Unfortunately, it seems that the servers here are also racist and for the first time ever, I felt strong prejudice because of my race from servers at an establishment. We waited 25 minutes and asked for a waiter twice before one finally came by. Waiters would come by other tables and people right next to us multiple times, and completely ignore us when we tried to get their attention. We came here because we wanted to try the historic brownie. We then ordered three coffees and asked for an iced latte, at which the server paused and then looked at us condescendingly before proceeding with the rest of the order. We would've wanted to order food, but we were never even offered a restaurant menu. Because we had waited this long with absolutely no apology or acknowledgement, we were very frustrated. Instead of treating our frustration with understanding, the server just started glaring at me. This level of service is completely unacceptable, especially for a restaurant set in a hotel of this level. I would have to conclude that either they have the worst training program for their servers - perhaps absolutely no training at all, or they seem to have no filter and no problem with hiring people who are judgmental and racist. The same server, after bringing us our drinks, immediately greeted the people sitting next to us in the most friendly manner. I have never been this upset at a restaurant. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had. I urge you - do NOT support a restaurant or an establishment like this.

Yelp
Elegant and quiet atmosphere and of course, you have to try it out when you stay at The Palmer House Hotel. I want to like this place but it's hard to justify the quality of the food for what you pay. I know you pay a premium at any restaurant inside a hotel like this but there is another restaurant at the hotel that I prefer. I will say that their drinks are fantastic! The Maple Manhattan is a must try! Would I eat here again: probably.

Yelp
The service was absolutely incredible and Mojammel absolutely thrilled us and made us feel at home and with decent company! Never have I ever dealt with a more incredible server!
