This museum, set up over a lovely landscape, offers a captivating glimpse into the Viking way of life. It skillfully blends spiritual beliefs with the practical realities of their daily existence. The impressive array of artifacts, tools, crafts, and weaponry provides a thrilling journey through time. The professional staff and the well-organized private tour enhance the visitor experiences. Furthermore, the museum shop has some exciting collections to carry home and the cafeteria has some lovely coffee and savouries to enjoy. A truly unforgettable experience for anyone fascinated by the Viking legacy. Skål!

Personally I found this museum underwhelming. Mainly because the audio guide is weak, there isn’t much direction for which order to view the exhibits, and the guided tour guide was very dull. In fact I found the cod liver guide I had at another museum much more exciting than this guide that was talking about Vikings! Some good activities for families such as archery, axe throwing, and boating that are included in your ticket price.

Several craftsmen at work! We met the wood carver, textile workers, a leatherworker, an old game player. All of them kind and talkative, ready to answer your questions. And just wait for the next adventure: the Viking ship Vargfotr, they told us it’s a replica of the well known Gokstad ship which was 23,8 meters long. The Vargfotr is a smaller copy, but the modern Vikings on this ship are as mighty and skillful as those in the old days:)

I guess the highlight is the viking ship tour. But all the other elements of the museum have been created with proficiency and attention to details. We spen half a day here with two children (11&2) and it was one of best experiences we ever had: The museum The house & its belongings (7stars) The trail through the animals place towards the ship - don’t take the low car road, take the trail that leads a little to the left once you leave the house. The ship tour The crafts. The forest trail. The horse ride The coffee place down the road The axe throwing Beautiful experience.

Beautiful place and a great experience. You start off with an audio tour indoors and then you venture outside to see the reconstructed hall. A 15 minute walk would bring you to the lake where you could take a boat ride Viking style. Also, as a side note - we (wife pointed it out) were lucky enough to have the prettiest woman in Norway handling the boat for us 🥰

Had a great time. Eda (hopefully spelt correctly) treated us like royalty and real looked after us. She deserves a pay rise, as she did a fantastic job.

A great experience. The guide in the reconstructed long house was an archeologist from Greece. She gave a great talk! It also happened to be Viking festival and while it was quite a walk down to the water and back, the entertainment and creativity of the participants was a lot of fun

Amazing museum combining multi-media presentations about the history of vikings in the area plus a re-creation of a long house where vikings lived. Inside they have working areas of the long house on display cooking, weaving carving etc.
