BE WARNED WHEN BUYING DRINKS HERE. Always ask for the receipt before paying!!!
I came here for the Halloween event this past weekend. Be warned that there is a 20% auto-grat that the bartenders don't tell you about.
I was planning on buying multiple drinks this night, but when my friends and I got 3 tequila sodas that came out to $70 USD, we were quite thrown off and confused.
I went up and asked for an itemized receipt after we discussed that that was a crazy high price, and we noticed there was a 20% auto gratuity added with no warning. The machine prompted us to tip on top of this, so we tipped 35% with no notice of what was going on.
We were quite sober luckily, but I totally see how this takes advantage of drunk people and the crowds waiting for drinks. When I asked the bartender why he didn't tell us about the auto-grat, he said it's because the machine tells you. This is NOT true. If the machine told us, then why did it then prompt us again to tip 10-20%? This is SO greedy, especially when simply pouring three shots of tequila. If we were ordering cocktails, I personally would not have been offended at the 20% tip he gave himself.
For this reason, I will never be coming back. As someone who used to bartend, my managers warned me that auto-tipping without clear verbal consent is illegal, and can get the bar in a lot of trouble. If all the servers are doing this, I worry for the wellbeing of this institution.
