16 Best Airbnbs in Iceland (2024), From Reykjavik Abodes to Countryside Cabins

"Light pink tones drape the majority of this cozy studio, encompassing anyone who enters with a calm vibe—which is great, considering it’s located on the busiest street in town. You’ll find everything you need to get the day started inside: a coffee machine, stove, a private bathroom, and more." - Erika Owen

The 9 Best Hostels in Iceland (Updated 2025)

"Once voted the best hostel on the planet, I found Loft HI to be a comfy and social spot with dorms and private rooms that have thick mattresses (some rooms offer nice city views). The rooftop deck is lively and great for meeting people, the hostel regularly hosts evening events like live music and stand-up comedy, and the staff go above and beyond if you need help planning your trip." - Matthew Kepnes

This was one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. The location was perfect and very easy for the tours, the staff was amazing and polite, the beds were clean and comfortable too. We also did some of the hostel activities and they were really fun, specially the Icelandic beer tasting. I managed to see the best northern lights from the kitchen balcony and it was definitely a highlight. Will definitely stay again next time.

Beautiful and friendly hostel. Rooms are cleaned daily. Very friendly staff. The owner is lovely and has a beautiful dog. The bar area is a plus, full of sofas, chairs, and all kinds of games. Last but not least, a magnificent terrace overlooking the main street downtown. The kitchen is open 24/7. Super central location.

The location is excellent, with easy access to food options and shops. I stayed in an 8-bed female dorm, and the room was very spacious with its own private bathroom and a hairdryer provided. However, the storage space is insufficient, and there is no bedside reading light for each bed, which would have improved comfort. The common area is large and very impressive, offering plenty of space to relax. The kitchen is well equipped and even provides free seasonings, which is a great bonus for travelers. Overall, a comfortable stay, though minor improvements in room amenities would make it even better.**

I can’t fault my stay at Loft. The location is excellent and the dorm room was warm, safe, clean and comfortable. Lovely hot water in the bathroom, courtesy of those Icelandic springs. It’s close to the city centre, the beautiful shore and bus stops fur your transfers or if you’re planning to take part in tours. If you’re travelling alone, it’s well worth choosing Loft as you’ll meet friendly fellow travellers in your dorm room or the bar upstairs. Checking in and out were easy too. And the bar has an excellent roof terrace too with great views. A definite recommend!

Brilliant place to stay whilst in Reykjavik. Convenient to shop eat browse catch buses. You do as much as you want there at the loft or as little as you please everybody is terribly friendly . Very environmentally conscious. Would go there again. Heads up there is no laundry but there’s a very cute one with a coffee place attached just down the road enjoy the loft.

This was my first time both solo travelling and staying at a hostel, I was a bit nervous but staying at Loft was one of the highlights of my whole trip. I stayed at a 4 bed room with all females, the rooms were incredibly clean and straightforward, and I think this hostel attracts a very young, creative, and courteous/polite crowd. The staff upstairs working at the check in/cafe are SO nice, everyone speaks fluent English and are so patient and willing to give recommendations. The location could not have been better, a 3 min walk away from 2 major bus stops and right in the middle of the fun downtown. Highly recommend!

Despite the beautiful reviews I am dissappointed to write that my short stay was unfortunately not pleasant. Arriving to the hostel during given the reception opening hours I still found the reception to be closed. The only directions upon checking in was a placard explaining I'd find the key (access code), room and bed numbers on my e-mail. I did, but not getting any service left me quite unacquainted with the hostel and its operations. My stay at the hostel was very short, so my experience is very limited, yet I'd still say many things felt inconvinient during my stay. I stayed at a female dorm of 8 — a booking type I'm quite familiar with. The linen was off the duvet and pillow when arriving so so putting that on is left to the customer. A towel was nor provided. On the bed there is a reading light and a single wall socket. If there was a personal storage space provided I couldn't see one and hadn't been informed of such. I had been assigned a top bunk which turned out to be a bigger issue than in my past hostel stays. The bunk bed felt very flimsy and squaky. The climbing structure was also inconviniently shaped and I found it hard to climb on top of it (which is not an issue I've usually had). I woke up in the night having to use the restroom and couldn't climb back up with my "mid-sleep strength", so I ended up leaving at night 4 hours prior to planned. If you have sny mobility issues, even minor, this will be an issue. Upon leaving I was bummed to find all the comfortable lounge areas closed off. This surprised me because I've been used to lounging spaces being open 24/7 on all my other hostel experiences. Between 11pm and 8am the only areas to stay outside your room are the kitchen and the corridor (from which neither is very comfortable). The balconies with the beautiful views are locked as well, and there is no staff on site. The lounge area seemed absolutely beautiful though when I got a peek of it while checking in. The location of the hostel is remarkable, it's hard to imagine a better location to start exploring the city. However that comes with a disvantage of a loud envirorment. The buzz of the streets can be heard to the room (my room was 205 on the 2nd floor) and might be of disturbance if you're sensitive to that. I found the guests of the hotel to be quite loud as well, and the people in my room as well as in the corridor were loud in their movements and talking, shouting unrestraintly and indifferent to others sleeping. However, I don't think that's an issue that the hostel can sort out, it's more of a question of luck in the guests you happen to share your hostel stay with. The quiet hours are from 11 to 7 which I consider too late and short (in addition to some guests not honoring them to begin with) so the only action the hotel could take against is maybe widening the duration of quite hours and reinforcing them more.

Such an amazing Hostel. I’ve stayed at a few different hostels while staying in Iceland and this has definitely been one of my favorites. Everyone is super friendly and social. The hostel promotes their free first drink and mingle at 18:00 which was so fun as you can meet tons of cool people. The community area is so cozy and welcoming. The staff were great as well, very friendly and attentive! 10/10 Hostel experience for me!
