Can Artists was chosen for its superior location - in Perpignan Old Town, on Place de la Loge - and its nice design - modern and light vs red/ gold/ dark wood in other hotels. Due to its location in Perpignan pedestrian zone, you can not reach it by car - you will have to walk from the car park in approx. 500m. Our experience with it was quite contrasting: a mix of very good and quite disappointing things. After making circles around the Old Town, we decided to leave our car and try it on foot. It's nigh impossible to find Can Artists yourself - there's no sign and Google Maps location is not precise. You have to start walking along the narrow street across the square from the Town Hall; the first door in the right wall is where you're heading. The owner/ keeper hardly speaks 3 words in English - so I was really surprised to read other reviews. But once you arrive to the 3rd floor you're immediately inclined to forgive all the hardships of finding this place. 3 rooms of different size are accessed from a wooden terrace overlooking an atrium beneath. Our room ("Earth") was quite spacious with a walk-in shower and plenty of storage space. What was great also is that we've been the only guests, so we had the whole place more or less for ourselves. Next morning was eclectic again: the mattress and pillows are extremely hard, so forget your comfortable sleep, but the beuatifully-served breakfast was delicious. We spent the whole day exploring Colliure and Villefranche-le-Conflent and on the way back bought some nice wine, cheese and fruits to savour once we're at the hotel. When we'd arrived and decided to take a rest, we heard a bang on our door. This owner/ keeper lady came to tell us in no uncertain terms (and in French as you can imagine) that we can not have wine and food anywhere in the property - be it the dining room, terrace or room. First, I could not understand why, as we were the only guests and there's a kitchen/ dining room/ plates/ cutlery easily available. Second, she doesn't offer any meals other than breakfast and nobody tells you upfront that it's prohibited to have a meal/ drink. Third, the message could have been delivered in a nicer and definitely more polite way. So our impression of this place was spoilt. Long check-out (it took 10 min to process the payment through the card machine) did not help either. Net - overall experience not worth 150-170 Euro/ night spending
