"In Essex, Montana—a place that has a year-round population of about 140 people—you can find the Izaak Walton Inn, where you can sit on the porch and grab a great meal. You can also easily get to Glacier National Park."

Great stay at the Loge. The Staff was very accommodating. The food in the restaurant was very good. The bed was very comfy. Free Coffee in the lobby was a nice touch. The XC trails were amazing and scenery was beautiful. We enjoyed them on our snowshoes. Just note that if you come in by train you will have to walk from the platform to the hotel. Not a big deal for us as we were prepared with headlamps for the 5 - 10 minute walk in the dark. Looking forward to making this an annual trip😁

The best Nordic ski trails ever. I’ve skied at Essex for 20 some years and this year with a new piston bully groomer and a superb machine operator/driver, the corduroy and trail conditions are unmatched. Skate skiing is a dream and classic is a delight, too. And then there is the sauna included with your season pass and great lunches to top it all off. The desk staff and both ski pros are so helpful and seem genuinely happy to share this magical winter wonderland. Come ski and stay at LOGE Glacier in Essex. The cabins are spotlessly clean and perfect for skiing out your door. From one very happy skier.

My sister and I had the most wonderful time on our stay. We took the train from Whitefish to The Lodge. We stayed in The Schoolhouse which was great. The accommodations were amazing, the restaurant had very exquisite food. Every employee that we meet was very friendly. We snowshoed during the day and played shuffleboard in the bar at night. I highly recommend your stay!

My first visit to LOGE Glacier, and it was awesome! The staff really made the experience special. When there was an issue with the kitchen and it had to close, they went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of, offering free food and making everyone feel comfortable. The trails were well-maintained! But honestly, the best part of the stay was the staff, super friendly and genuinely caring, they made everything feel easy and enjoyable. I'll be back many times in the future!

My husband and I went with another couple to spend 2 nights at the newly renovated, formerly Issac Walton, Essex LOGE camp experience. I hope the managers will read my careful review and take note. This establishment has all the workings of a 5 star review. The remodel is beautiful, modernizing the look and feel of the Inn, while maintaining the history of a Railroad stop. The common areas have unique and quality furniture with many cozy touches. We stayed in the School House rooms, which again had modern and comfy decor with a very comfortable bed and even a down throw. The restaurant maintains the sense of a dining car. The sauna was gorgeous and the new locker rooms felt like a spa. The problem lies in the quality control. Our rooms were filthy, the floors covered in dirt and dog hair, the showers having muddy footprints, and the list of amenities, i.e. silverware, plates, etc., were not present, even though they were listed in the description. When we alerted the front desk of the state of the floor, they did not move us to a clean unoccupied room (2 empty rooms were available), they brought out a mop so we could clean our own floor. In the School House, there were also spider webs and spiders throughout. One even crawled on our friend while in bed and were up on the mantle over the bed. This is in the winter! The restaurant was the most lacking. The food choices incredibly limited and the quality so inconsistent. One time your burger comes out juicy, the next time a hockey puck. Plan to eat a lot of burgers. The soup was excellent, while the cook decided to put a black burned biscuit with it. The locker rooms to the sauna, were wonderful, while not cleaned and restocked when attempting to use it again our second day. And, last, there is a massive historic fireplace, and the weather was down to 1 degrees F, with snow outside, and the Inn would not light it. I hope management will get on board with the quality, because in spite of the very lengthy and costly renovation, the place will fall apart very quickly without consistent cleaning and maintenance (lights were also broken in the room and light bulbs burned out), and quality standards put in place for the dining.

The remodel of this historic inn has maintained as much as the rich history I remember from my past visits as possible, while adding modern amenities. The location is of course entirely unique. The staff are beyond friendly and helpful, they made us feel like part of the crew. Don’t expect a traditional hotel experience here; but if that’s what you expect, you probably aren’t attracted to this location anyway. Or shouldn’t be. Come to have fun in the wilderness, enjoy the company of your friends, and soak in the funky, small-inn experience. The grab and go breakfast foods are delicious, and just what you need to fuel your adventure for the day. The dinners in the restaurant are first-class, and the bar has fun for adults and families with young children as well.

I was skeptical since the takeover of the old Issac Walton Inn, but it was FANTASTIC! ||||Great upgrades, while still maintaining the old inn charm. Nice amenities in the rooms, comfy beds and pillows. Great food in the restaurant and drinks in the bar! Cute little sauna. Overall nice brand presence. ||||Loved it and highly recommended!

I’m glad others have not shared the experience I had at the Loge. I have visited the hotel several times in the past and it has been one of my favorite places in Montana. For this trip, I stayed with some friends nearby and therefore I was not a “guest” of the hotel. Bags of dog poop decorated the snow outside the hotel. We wanted to rent some equipment and ski and I was a little surprised the day pass was $25 per person. Since I was traveling with others I wanted to check and see if they wanted to spend the $120 to ski- far higher than any other place I’ve skied. The woman at the desk appeared very irritated with my hesitation and gave me an economics lesson on how much it costs to maintain trails, provide internet, shoveling, fuel etc. and the day pass was how they “passed the cost on to the consumer.” She also felt it necessary to tell us that without a pass, we were not allowed to use their parking lot, sidewalks, trails, or access the back country. I decided to ski elsewhere, but came back to the hotel bar to see friends who told me that they had heard the staff making comments about me. While I understand that the company wants to pass the additional costs on, it did feel like a taste of the new reality where out of state companies drive up costs so that only those can afford to can access Montana’s outdoors. I’m giving two stars because the hotel bar service as great. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. The bar had an excellent selection of beverages.
