Loggia del Capitaniato

The Loggia del Capitaniato is one of Vicenza’s most striking and expressive Palladian buildings, standing proudly on Piazza dei Signori opposite the Basilica Palladiana. Designed by Andrea Palladio, its bold red façade immediately sets it apart, offering a dramatic contrast to the white stone architecture around it. What makes the loggia especially fascinating is its sense of strength and authority. The massive columns, rich decorative details, and symbolic reliefs reflect its historical role as the residence of the Venetian military captain. Despite its power and monumentality, the building maintains Palladio’s signature balance and elegance, rewarding closer inspection with intricate craftsmanship.
