This hotel is very centrally situated. Just a few metres from the river and from the quaint shopping streets which run parallel to the river. There are also historic buildings to explore nearby.||There is parking belonging to the hotel, just around the corner on Quai des Marais. It's in a small private outdoor parking lot. There doesn't appear to be any security at the parking lot, but the streets are quiet, and we had no issues leaving our car there. There's a small charge per night for parking, payable to the hotel.||The staff were friendly and welcoming. They spoke fairly good English, so we managed to make ourselves understood.||The room was a reasonable size and clean. The shower was quite small but worked well.||Although the streets look small, the hotel seems to be on a main thoroughfare, so if you're bothered by traffic noise, ask for a room at the back of the hotel.||There is no lift, so you need to be able to handle stairs.||The reception closes at 9pm, but we were given a key code to use to get into the side door after that time.||There is another Logis hotel on the same street, closer to the river. That one has a restaurant attached - Café Voltaire. You can get a discount there because you're staying at the Chaptal. I would definitely recommend you eat there. We had a very warm and friendly welcome and the meal was one of the best I've had since coming to France.

Can't get simple things right. Pointless providing tea and coffee in rooms but no milk. Breakfast was almost all gone by 0930hrs, but was supposedly being served until 1030hrs. There were also no cereal spoons so I had to ask for one. Sink did not drain well. No air conditioning. Parking is not onsite. There is no outside space. Doors lock and bar closes very early, 2000hrs. Location OK, staff nice enough.

Small dog friendly hotel. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was good. Our room. Was small but had all the amenities we needed especially as we were only staying one night. Great location. Wish we had stayed longer .

Excellent in every way! Dont hesitate to book. The Hotel location, team and cleanliness and rooms are fantastic. The outstanding reception and management team of Mélanie, Sharon Lana and the others showed great organization and caring of guests. As a tour guide I can say that they were all working at optimal levels. Every interaction I had with them was positive and I saw that with the other guests too. The hotel is very centrally located , It was a delight to be a 1 minute walk away from the quaint "main street" rue Nationale which is a charming 16th century lane lined with boutiques and bakeries, fine food shops restaurants and more..The breakfast a was amazing, with local cheese, jams and patisserie and local apple juice. The castle of Amboise is a 7 minute walk from the hotel and the tourism office half a block away. All in all I was very happy with hotel Chaptal.

I agree with the other reviewers in one point: the staff was very friendly. But: I’m quite suprised about the many very good ratings. I wouldn’t exactly describe the room as clean, which for me is a very crucial point for feeling comfortable in a hotel. Maybe I had very bad luck with my room, but some things I noticed rather indicate, that the room wasn’t cleaned properly for a longer period of time. I attached some photos I took, that I think speak for themselves- a collection of dusty surfaces, spider webs, stained floors, strangers hairs and dated equipment.

We had room # 1 at the top of the stairs for 4 nights, the room was smallish but we loved the location|This is a Rick Steves recommended hotel|Very helpful staff |The secure car park was very nice a short walk down the street |About 2 blocks away you will find a self service laundry that is almost new with a variety of different machines

We stayed three nights in this hotel. First, I must give kudos to the afternoon/evening receptionist. He was extremely helpful in locating a laundromat, assisting in making a dinner reservation and making inquiries regarding barbers and gas stations. We stayed on the third floor of the hotel which was a bit like a habitrail with stairs going up and down to reach our room. (Note--if you are physically challenged, this would be difficult and there is no elevator.) The room was basic. There was something strange about the wifi because we had trouble sending photos and it periodically disconected. Our room looked out on the side street and was reasonably quiet. The breakfast was good. Parking is a couple of blocks away and is in a secure lot.
