We had a truly wonderful time at Chateau de Palaja. I have stayed in 5 star Relais & Chateaux hotels that were nowhere near this level of service. For me, this elevates Chateau de Palaja from a very nice hotel to a wonderful hotel. I can only recommend it with the highest praise. ||We travelled in a large family group (6 adults, 4 kids) and stayed 4 nights. The kids loved the garden and pool. There is a good restaurant right in the grounds with decent wine list and tasty dishes.||The family suites are very big and comfortable with proper separate sleeping areas for adults and children. There is air conditioning that works very well. Beds are large and comfortable and the shower is good with proper water pressure.||Breakfast has won awards - a nice selection of breads, pastries, pancakes, yoghurts, ham, cheese, eggs, local jam and honey, decent coffee etc. ||But here's the real benefit of this place - I am lactose intolerant and asked if I could please have lactose-free milk. Two different kinds of milk were provided for me. The hosts Cathy and Eric are unbelievably accommodating; I think if I had asked for a third kind of milk they would have gone and got it. ||Cathy and Eric literally do their very best to make every guest feel special and to help everyone have a wonderful holiday. Huge thanks to them and if I could give six stars, I would.||A note also to say that the photos don't really do this place justice. It is more charming and beautiful than it looks on the website.

Very special hotel on a tranquil, well maintained property convenient to Carcassonne without the chaos. Spent two peaceful nights in a very comfortable room. Delicious breakfast and delightful owners who helped us plan a day touring the countryside. Only wish we’d stayed longer. Don’t miss dining at ‘S Comme, a very special gourmet restaurant on the property.

Caty the hostess and her husband Eric were wonderful. Very helpful and extremely nice. Our room was excellent; quite large and comfortable. A beautiful garden and an excellent restaurant next door. Breakfast was good too. | I would totally recommend a stay in this place.

Idyllic setting. Owners Katie and Eric were extremely helpful in helping us plan our days. Room and breakfast were great. Beautiful grounds for hanging out or drinking some wine. Although it’s different ownership, the restaurant next door had excellent food and service, very convenient.

We had a wonderful stay as a family group of 10. Catherine and Eric have done a fabulous job of renovating this charming chateau, and were wonderfully helpful both ahead of our stay and throughout. Our room, for our family of two adults and two children, was the La Cité family suite. It’s large, with a separate twin bedroom and main room. We had a large bathroom with bath and shower, and separate loo. There’s a sitting area where the children could relax with games. The room is characterful with original beams. Thankfully it also has air con, as it was unseasonably warm during our stay. Breakfast is a delicious self-service buffet of cereals, different breads (brioche, pain rustique, etc.), pastries, yogurts, hams, cheeses, juices, home made jams, etc. One evening we had platters and wine in the pretty garden, the platters were excellent and very substantial. Catherine and Eric recommended lovely local restaurants in Carcassonne and Trèbes, and were full of expert knowledge. We ate at S Comme twice during the stay. The food was really lovely, in a relaxed and pretty setting, and the chef was very accommodating of our children, one of whom has special dietary requirements. I would highly recommend Chateau de Palaja for a holiday, either as a couple, a family, or among friends.

We visited Catherine and Eric’s place during summer 2024 with our boys. They are such thoughtful hosts and the area is brimming with things to explore. It’s perhaps less-frequented as a place, but if you’re looking for something varied and with history to spare, this place and the hotel in particular are well worth your time. We loved dinner and breakfast in the garden as well as a little pétanque. The place is charming and I cannot recommend the proprietors enough.

A haven of peace and calm. Located in a delightful village close to Carcassonne (and only 15 minutes for its airport), the hotel offers a warm welcome. The rooms are well equipped and spotlessly clean. The garden provides the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks at the excellent restaurant, S Comme, located in the old stables attached to the hotel. The owners are very attentive and full of advice on what to see and do in the locality. Breakfast is first-rate, sets you up for the day. Strongly recommended.

Recently returned from a lovely break staying here. Just outside Carcassonne in a village but a peaceful setting. The owners are passionate about the Château and personally attend to every detail. Breakfast was lovely as is the restaurant next door. Rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean. You need a car to stay here and be careful of the car park entrance which is incredibly narrow. The swimming pool is a welcome addition, set away from the house and whilst swimming completely hidden from view which is a bonus in one way, but if anything was to happen, you’re on your own! Overall a lovely place to stay.
