Okay tourists and out-of-towners, you're allowed one visit. One time to enjoy the excellent coffee and beautiful space. But after that visit please leave Lokaal to us locals. Thank you.

Good service and snacks. Clean. We had Hot chocolates with whip cream, snicker pastry bar, carrot cake and banana bread with maple syrup. All delicious!!!

Not bad, but not great. The service was nice. The cappuccino was a bit on the lukewarm side.. this was improved upon my request when ordering my 2nd cappuccino. The cappuccino itself, nothing 'special'. Having '1st class coffee' in their name title, I kind of expected more. Perhaps exotic espresso choices, something along those lines. This was a very standard cappuccino. We also ordered a cheese tosti. My friend and I were both a bit disappointed and came to the conclusion that the bread, although nice quality, is too thickly sliced, taking away from the cheese taste. It was pretty bland. Perhaps also an older cheese would add flavour, although tostis tend to be made with young cheese, this could set them apart too. We ended the lunch with a slice of cheesecake. The filling tasted nice, but the base of the cake was soggy and had an unpleasant wet paper like texture. We didn't finish the cheesecake. Being a bit of a cheesecake connoisseur myself, I know that better cheesecake is readily available... I would find a different source if I were them. On a positive note, we enjoyed the relaxed music. It was also nice that they have speakers on the terras.

This place is pretty damn close to the perfect living room, so a good thing that they open nice and early. Urhm, well for most city fellows 9 am is early enough... Lets list the features shall we? A waft of coffee, fresh bread, sweet marmalade and scrambled egg when you walk in, check. A cosy corner with two comfy chairs, check. A long table with papers and magazines, check. A simple menu that will help you through the day from breakfast to lunch and on to a slice of home baked pie with your afternoon tea, check! This is your local, the coffee shop you want to find on your street corner. Here you can unwind, the minimal interior helps: a beautiful wooden finish with gold and bronze details, wild flowers on the tables and a friendly service. Off course the coffee is top notch, but they also have some cool drinks from local suppliers and lemonades from the Fentimans brewery. Share the table at the back and flick through the magazines, a big plus for the English titles. When it is free, pick the best spot in the corner by the entrance. Sink in the armchair; sip your coffee and glaze over the people passing by. All we want to know is when the first Sunday roast will be on so we can look forward to a perfect Sunday afternoon. This little review I'm writing now contains more effort than the people who work here will spend on you. They're not polite, agitated and the coffee is fine, but the cheesecake is really basic.
