"If you’re looking to escape the tourist hubbub in Dubrovnik’s historic core, follow the locals to Lokrum. Just a 15-minute ferry ride from the Old Town, the island offers magnificent nature walks through botanical gardens and olive groves. Paths climb up to sites like the oldest Benedictine monastery in the region and Napoleon’s Fort Royal at the very top, passing native peacocks along the way. Come for a relaxing stroll, a picnic in the shade, or a refreshing dip in the sparkling Adriatic."

Lokrum or lokrum island is a natural reserve located right off the coast of Dubrovnik. It has a monastery, a beautiful forest and a botanical garden. There are a couple of restaurants too on the island. There are a lot of peacocks roaming almost everywhere on the island. The monastery has a couple of beautiful filming locations for the popular GoT series. The island is serviced by a ferry which leaves Dubrovnik harbour every 30 mins.

We visited Lokrum Island off-season, so it wasn’t crowded at all. The boat ride from Dubrovnik itself was already an amazing experience, and the trip is definitely worth the price. The island is beautiful, lush and green, with a few cafes and restaurants to relax in. There are also plenty of spots to sunbathe and enjoy the sea. A must-visit, especially for Game of Thrones fans! And of course the peacocks😱😍🦚🏰🌊

Lokrum Island is amazing and full of beautiful peacocks. A boat goes to the island every 30 minutes, and the ride takes about 10-15 minutes. You can walk around the island, and 4 to 5 hours is enough to explore. The water is very clear and clean, so you might want to swim. There is also a small Dead Sea, which is a popular spot. You will find several restaurants on the island. If you like Game of Thrones, there is a small exhibition with a replica of the throne where you can take pictures. Peacocks wander all over the island, looking for food near you. You can sit on the big rocks, relax, and enjoy the beautiful view where the sky meets the water.

We were here as part of the GoT tour and (unfortunately) only spent about 45 minutes. This place looks like really nice and relaxed garden that you can explore for a few hours. Obviously peacocks are a big attraction, but so the gardens, the monastery, and the beaches. Could be also an interesting destination for a kayaking trip. Worth visiting if Dubrovnik gets too crowded... although I am afraid that in season the island gets crowded too.

Worth visiting if you have an extra day in Dubrovnik and have already seen Dubrovnik, Ston and Kostor/Perast. Pretty island with an easy hiking trail and lots of peacocks. Mostly shaded with trees on both sides. Lovely Benedictine monastery with Game of Thrones sets. Access is by ferry from Dubrovnik(€5 one way for the 15-minute trip) and there’s an entry fee of €30 for the island. Ferry leaves every 30 minutes. Many restaurants, cafes, gelato shops and restrooms. Lots of seating spots with a view.

This is a nice place to do a hike. It is about 7 km around the island and there are many places to stop and take a peek around. If you are into the Game of Thrones, there are many screen sets you will recognize. The views of old town Dubrovnik are also spectacular

It is an island some 15 minutes away (1km)from dubrovnik. You can book tickets online (lokrum webshop)or just walk up to the old town pier(turning left from the supposedly beat gelato shop. Ticket kiosk is on the right after the restaurant seating. The boat is brown and white called the zrinski. Carry some sandwiches and beer from the store before the entrance if you want or there are plenty of nice restaurants on the island. It is a beautiful island with lots of trees and shade. Star attraction is the stunningly beautiful peacocks walking around and are comfortable in your presence.Dont feed them and dont touch them please. You can check out the monastery(not functional) but you have a nice looking restaurant here and the iron throne where you can sit on and take pictures . A bit of a steep climb on a stony broken path to the right to the ruins of the small fort and nice views. Do check out the corner bench next to the exit with the best view. Then back down to the monastery( you can use the lavatory here if you want) towards the small water body where you can swim if you want. You can play volleyball and football as it has option for both and of course play zone for little kids. Plenty of areas on this island where you can go down the steps to the water. Took us some 4hrs back to the pier in dubrovnik. You can take maybe 5-6hrs if you want to picnic sitting on the benches near the monastery or eat at the restaurants. While sitting on the benches peacocks do come looking for food but keep it high on the benches. Dont feed them. They just hover around and dont say anything. Overall keep this for the last day as a filler.

During our visit to Dubrovnik, we explored the Old Town and were considering either walking the city walls or visiting Lokrum Island. However, the ticket price for the city walls was extremely high — 40€ per adult and 15€ for our child — just for walking under the intense sun. We found it far too expensive for what it offered. Instead, we chose to visit Lokrum Island, and it was absolutely the right decision! The ticket cost was 30€ per adult and free for our child, and the experience was truly wonderful. Lokrum is a beautiful natural paradise with lush greenery, peaceful scenery, and several Game of Thrones filming locations to explore. It was definitely a better way to spend our time and money. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Dubrovnik!
