L'Olympe du Bemaraha

We were dreading coming here after reading the reviews. To the extent that we tried changing hotel. However, we were pleasantly surprised: Our bungalow (37) had piping hot water, a super king size bed and mosquito netting on the windows. Which meant we didn’t need the mosquito net so the fans could reach us. We were there in 40 degree heat and if you’re asleep before 10 when the generator ends the temperature is ideal. Unusually for the hotels we were staying in, there were comfortable chairs on the veranda. Which meant afternoons were lovely relaxing. The door didn’t lock very well and the door to the bathroom has warped slightly. The pool is great and attentively looked after by a pool boy. Though at times it felt like the kids would congregate there to chat which we could have done without. Not enough sun loungers but thatched parasols provide welcome shade. Wifi is poor. To everyone complaining it. There’s great 3G throughout Madagascar. Buy a SIM card for your trip! The restaurant had good food and a peppercorn sauce to die for. Prices are expensive especially considering the mad zebu down the road is cheaper for Michelin prices. A few odd descriptions of food items too and choices of accompaniments. For example curry with roast(ish) potatoes rather than rice. Most westerners would consider a meal to be carb, veg and protein but here it’s protein with one or the other. Weird. The staff were lovely with one female waiter who made us feel like we were an inconvenience. But she was the exception. The others were friendly. Many with good English. The loss of one star is to do with easily fixable notes that have nothing to do with the resources available and/or remoteness of the lodge. For fellow travellers, you are in the middle of nowhere, it’s an incredible achievement to run a hotel of this quality. Small changes would make this a 5* hotel for its location. It’s never going to be the Ritz! But we would happily stay here again.

Amazing resort in a very remote place. Staff very friendly and helpful with our cash (Ariary) problem. Comfortable and clean bungalow, well spaced. Relaxing pool with amazing view of the sunset. Breakfast and dinner were ok, the only thing that could be improved to reach the same standard as the rest of the resort.

The pool and the view from the pool are very nice. The breakfast was simple and could be very good, but it was of very low quality (stale bread every morning, margarine instead of butter), the crepes and the omelette were the only tasty parts of breakfast. We had dinner in the hotel on the first evening, which we did not manage to consume (and it was one of the most expensive places we've eaten in Madagascar so far) and we decided not to eat the next lunches and dinners here, but at the only local restaurant in town, which our guide helped us to get to and translated for us - it's the place where all the drivers & guides eat at, so expect a very simple, clean, great service. The local village restaurant had simple, home cooked food which was delicious. The service was slow, as they had only 1 single waiter who knew what he was doing but he was overwhelmed, and there were some young boys trying to help out with the rest of the guests, but they were chaotic and seemed lost. The rooms were simple, not very clean, but manageable, but I must admit, I was happy to leave this hotel.

Staff was lovely but facilities are poor. The room had a bad smell, there were no bath towels, only two floor towels, there was one tiny bar of soap, no bedside lamps, and the room was just overall a bit sad. ||I wouldn't have minded if the price was in line with the facilities. It was quite high for what you get and breakfast wasn't even included. ||I have stayed in every kind of accommodation all over the world and have rarely been this disappointed. I was hoping that the food would make up for it but it was subpar as well. ||

Very nice bungalows and an amazing location. All of us got diarrhea after the first day. The Tsingy National Park is within walking distance, and taking a trip in the wooden canoes on the river is strongly recommended. The power is out at night, so bring a headlight or a lamp.

Great hotel next to Tsingy! The staff are super friendly and the bungalows provide hot showers and generator electricity for half the day, which exceeded my expectations given the lack of infrastructure in the region in general and was greatly appreciated after a day hike. Food options were also pretty decent for a short stay. Lovely view from the poolside to watch the sunset to top it all off. Highly recommended if you’re in the area!

The worst hotel experience, not only from Madagascar but worldwide. Food poisoning, bedbugs, the swimmingpool was very dirty and after we talked about this the manager got very angry with us. Lunch package was expensive and disgusting. The local people who work here are really nice and try their best but unfortunately we felt really bad about this place. Would not reccomend you to go here.

Very nice place to stay if you are visiting Tsingy. Rooms ok,there were not mosqhuitos. But neither hot water,we didnt said nothing on reception beacuse it was hot outside and we liked cold water. Food was good,but only 2 choices for lunch and dinner. A little bit expensive everything. Swimming pool nice and clean. You can go on massage,but it was nothing special. But ok experience. Menager of hotel was really nice. You can pay with card.
