Lompoc Cafe

I was looking for dinner on a busy Saturday evening in October. Most of the restaurants on the main road looked packed and had long waits. This place is tucked away on a side road, and still had a little crowd, but I walked right in and got a table around 5:45pm; it was full by the time I left though. They had a decent menu with some local seafood options. I went with the spicy dijon mussels and root vegetable salad (no entree), and I was very happy with both. Both had good portions. The salad was refreshing and not boring at all. The mussels were swimming in some delicious juices (and came with plenty good bread to soak it up), and they were defintely fresher than the mussels I'm accustomed to getting in the midwest. They have a bar and good variety on the drink menu if that interests you. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I got pretty good service.. no complaints! I'd be happy to come back!

Incredible meal start to finish! Fabulous cocktails, delicious mussels with a Dijon cream sauce (get the fries to dip in it, trust me), unreal shish kebab plate with dill potato salad…. Salad with fried chicken is a standout too! Lovely, casual atmosphere and great service. We will be back during our week stay. Great bar and backyard as well. Can’t recommend enough.

Pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! Also really enjoyed sitting out in the garden patio. Highly recommend - and very reasonably priced compared to other nearby restaurants without sacrificing quality.

Great food and service in Bar Harbor. We had the meatloaf and the chicken pot pie. Both were delicious. This is a gem in Bar Harbor and we will definitely come back on our next visit to Bar Harvesting.

Service was excellent, waiters were nice and friendly. Food was very mid, meat had too many herbs, salad was very sour and chicken in it was too peppery. Additionally, even though the restaurant wasn't full at all we had to wait for about 30 minutes before we got our food. Portions were small, especially for the price. Talking about the atmosphere and vibe - to me it was slightly too dark. For some it would seem romantic, to me, I almost fell asleep. Overall, I would not come here again.

Wow! Absolutely loved the food and mocktails at Lompoc. Everything was incredibly tasty and the soup was incredible. Wish I lived closer so I could come back regularly! The service was great as well! If you want a truly delicious meal with flavor and thought this is the place to go.

Such a great experience! The Bang Bang Chicken was so good, and we loved that we could customize the tofu banh mi as a wrap , it turned out absolutely delicious. The only thing that fell a little short was the falafel wrap, which was a bit dry. But overall, this place is highly recommended. The warm, friendly service from the waitress and the welcoming vibe from everyone really enhanced our dining experience.

I could see myself spending a lot of time here if I lived in the area. Chill vibes but lively crowd on a weekend. Fun atmosphere. Nice cocktail list but lacking a whiskey/bourbon drink. Great beer selection. Food was good. The crab BLT was dynamite. It was a nice way to end our day after spending all day in Acadia National Park.

My favorite restaurant on this trip!! We are from the west coast and stopped by on the way back from Acadia National Park. Our goal was to find good food but a location that had vegetarian options. The vibe was immaculate. Immediately we were greeted and seated. Our waitress, was 10/10 amazing! She needs a raise. She was so charming and attentive, she listened to our needs, made great suggestions and was just so fun! We ordered great cocktails!! All of the food was amazing!! We had such a great time. I had such a wonderful time enjoying the food, I forgot to take pictures of all the food except my lobster roll (it was divine) I can't wait to come back just to eat here again!

Lompoc is one of the most vegetarian friendly dinner spots in Bar Harbor. They don't take reservations and offer three seating arrangements: the patio, the bar, and a small inside area with four or so tables. I would have liked to sit outside on their cute patio, but it was full and the hostess said it would be a long wait, so we decided to eat inside. At first she directed us to a table in the bar but realized it was very loud (music and patrons) so offered to seat us in the other inside section. We had a view of a bocce match and the patio--definitely better than the bar, but not as nice as the patio. They were playing classic rock and the people at the table next to us asked to turn it down, and they were accommodated, which made for a nicer experience for us as well. The falafel wrap and Banh Mi (v) were very good and the chips can be substituted for a house salad or fries, which we did. The dressing was light and I enjoyed it. The highlight of the experience at Lompoc was dessert. Although there was nothing vegan on the dessert menu, our server suggested an "off the menu" rhubarb raspberry sorbet, which was excellent! And doesn't it enhance the experience when you feel like they're letting you in on something special?! I'd definitely return and try to get there early (4:30) to be able to sit outside.

This place is so special that I make it a point to visit anytime I'm in Bar Harbor. The atmosphere is a touch Bohemian giving it an airy and welcoming feeling. The staff is always exceptionally kind and forthcoming with their opinions on the food which makes it known they genuinely enjoy it too. The last time I was here I got the bang bang chicken and was able to even get the spicy sauce in the side so I could control my spice level. The true winner for the night was a chocolate carrot cake from a local bakery in town. It was decadent yet well balanced and a hefty portion that I would have regretted if I finished entirely. This place has a unique vibe compared to all the other spots in Bar Harbor and has something for everyone. Do not miss this place when in town.

Really cute place at night with all the lights. I got the falafel platter to go, it was kind of expensive at $25, but it came with 3 patties, pita, peppers, picker onions, carrots, cucumber, hummus and tatziki. It was good, I just think it could have been cheaper. But it tasted really good.

First I want to say the service and ambiance are great - the staff were very helpful and kind. However, the food was mediocre for the price. The Caesar salad I had was very different from other pictures. Also it cost $12 to add shrimp, which I assumed would be large, seasoned / grilled shrimp, but it was just a bunch of small defrosted shrimp which did not add much flavor. I would come back here for patio drinks, but would not eat here again.

The little blonde girl was over the top and rude for no reason. And she's allegedly the "manager" from what she told me The guard wouldn't tell me her name or help me get my stuff. Avoid this plane if you're a tourist they are running a clown show

Sit at the bar and get mussels. You won't regret it! Cute place with indoor and outdoor seating and friendly staff.

Food was flavorful and was beautifully presented. You feel like you're sitting in a little oasis.

Actually had a nice dinner here. Good wine by the glass options and the Dijon mussels were very good. Ambiance could use some focus, I'd go back.

No greeting as we entered patio, and was told to wait for Diane as if I knew her. We ordered shwarma, mistake! Basically mystery meat. Waitress was pleasant but not skilled or not paying attention, charged for a dish that they did not have, and then charged us incorrectly for something else. Patio looked cute if you like sitting on small metal chairs. Inside nothing special.

We went here because they were opened past 8 and Google reviews were pretty good. I'm so grateful we did as it was phenomenal; I cleaned my plate which is super rare. The waitress was nice and just attentive enough. I had the steak and it was perfect. So flavorful and the mash potato base was just delish. My husband had the bang bang chicken and my mother-in-law the tomato soup; they both said they were excellent. I would definitely come back; it was so good!

Our group of three tried Lompoc for dinner tonight and did not have a great experience. We ordered the Lompoc chowder, the falafel dinner, and the Noodle bowl. (See pictures) The staff is nice enough (+1 star) and the restaurant is cute (+1 star), but the food we ordered was pretty terrible. The chowder was extremely bland (almost no salt) and far more watery than a typical chowder. I ate it because I was hungry, but I honestly cannot say that I enjoyed it. The falafel plate was also very bland - virtually no salt or spice on anything, the hummus didn't taste like it had any tahini in it, the tsaziki was pretty much just yogurt, and the falafel was oddly chunky (compared to a traditional falafel) & lacking flavor. Finally the noodle bowl was just plain bad. When they first brought it out, the noodles were undercooked and hard, so we sent it back. They remade the dish for us, but it was still not good. The tofu and noodle sauce were both wayyy too salty - almost straight soy sauce mixed with a bit of lime juice. Bottom line - this place has potential, but their chef needs to rethink the recipes, as food is just not very good, especially for the premium prices they're asking. Even in a small town like Bar Harbor, you have a lot of options for better food, at a similar or better price point, just a block or two away.

Super cute restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. They were able to seat a party of 6 easily. The menu is very vegetarian friendly and the menu has range - we ordered falafel burgers, tofu ban mis, mac and cheese, and a fall steak. Some of us upgraded to the fries as our side and found them yummy. There was a good selection of beers and cocktail and the cocktails we ordered were tasty. The only complaint was that the tofu was cold and the steak/mashed potatoes were room temperature, which gave the vibe the food was defrosted or heated up rather than made fresh. Overall, highly recommend for dinner when in Bar Harbor.

Great vibes at this spot - shady outdoor eating area with natural trees. Great beers, amazing food - a great option if you're traveling with vegan. Don't sleep on the pickled snacks, the Bee Hive, mussels and Noodle bowl. Fantastic service and great meal all round. Apparently they had just reopened in a restaurant setting a week before our meal due to COVID and they're already crushing it. 10/10 would go again.

Stopped at Lompoc Cafe because my friends and I were finally sick of lobster rolls and wanted to eat something different for a change. We sat outside on the covered patio area which was pretty nice. The menu had a lot of yummy and eclectic appetizers and sandwiches/salads. I definitely was interested in a couple different things on the menu. Food: - Spicy Dijon Mussels: Delicious mussel dish with a spicy dijon mustard sauce. Great to share with a couple people and tasted fresh. - Fishwich Sandwich: Giant fillet of fish fried in a perfect bun with coleslaw inside. I got the side salad with it which was yummy. The fillet was very tender flaky fish, my only complaint was it was a little bland and could use some sort of spices on the fish. Overall, pretty yummy sandwich as a whole. Service was great here along with the food. It was a refreshing change from most of the other food spots in Bar Harbor.

Looking for something other than lobster and found it at the Lompoc Cafe. The soup of the day was summer vegetables in a curry broth that was exceptional! The beet carpaccio was good but needed more crispy shallots. The lamb shawarma was very good with LOTS of lamb. The crab BLT was OK...good bacon but light on the crab meat that was in a heavy mayonnaise mixture. The fries with garlic aioli were also excellent. Then came a wonderful carrot cake for dessert. The cake was dense and very flavorful. The icing was a true creamy cream cheese. Service by Abby was perfect. The highlights were definitely the soup and carrot cake.

This review is mainly to gush about the ice mocha with soy milk that I ordered at Lompoc. It's up there with the best coffee drinks I've had in my life. It was lightly sweet, chocolatey, and so refreshing. I may or may not plan my next Bar Harbor trip around Lompoc iced mochas. The vegan options were good, but not great. I enjoyed my sesame bagel with their cashew cream cheese and veggie patty (the actual bagel was surprisingly good!), but the peanut tofu sandwich that my boyfriend ordered was only okay. I'd order another bagel, maybe with avocado and a veggie patty next time, to eat alongside the iced mocha that I am absolutely willing to trek back to Maine for.

This cafe is along the other strip of cafes on a side street in Bar Harbor. We ordered the peanut sauce wrap and a side salad from this place which turned out delicious. There is a nice variety of sandwiches, wraps and beverages and they can turn any sandwich/wrap into a salad. I highly recommend the peanut sauce wrap because the sauce is amazing! Not spicy at all either since it is like a Thai/Vietnamese style wrap. Definitely recommend trying this place. There's indoor and outdoor seating and they have a small library room that you can purchase and read books at.

Recently reopened. Great outside area and good diversity of food options. We had a couple of local beers and played boche ball after a day hiking in Acadia. Has a less touristy vibe than places along Cottage just a block away.

Nice side street cafe that has rustic charming vibe. Tried special Ginger tea brewed w their homemade ginger syrup And oat milk. Delicious.

Fabulous service. Adorable location. The best tofu bahn mi sandwhich I've ever had. Would come back to Bar Harbor just for it!

Food: We had the New Guy pizza. The crust was excellent; thinish and cooked well. The pork itself was dry, but still flavored the pizza well. The bbq sauce was flavorful and spread evenly. The cheese was perfectly melted and stretchy. The red onion was a great addition to the pizza as it cuts through the bolder flavors of the meat. Our pizza was missing the honey drizzle though! Service: quick, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. Environment: windowsill had spiderwebs and dead bugs and a thick layer of dust. We saw it, and had to get out.

@@ road trip post @@ Some things (not the food! nor the ambiance) were a little off because we came for dinner during Memorial Day weekend. They were a little overwhelmed, but honestly it was GOOD, so the 4 road trippers looked at each other at the end of the meal and we were all like "yep, this was worth it." Notes: * There are three dining areas: inside (actually broken into 3: on top of a stage of sorts right next to a big window with stringed lights), outside (which was closed because it was pretty cold), and a semi-outside area (that is closed in by screens). * We got to sit inside, by the window and we all immediately said we should get a picture because it was so beautiful and picture worthy. We forgot :( but it was because we were enjoying our time so much that we didn't even remember to take a picture of ourselves. * I had the lambrusco sour which is made with aquafava. So good. Also, aquafava (the liquid from garbanzos) means that the drink is creamy but still non-dairy friendly. * For food we tried the Johnny the Greek pizza and the large salad. They easily switched out whatever meat came in the "ensalada grande" with falafel. Both were worth getting and I would definitely re-get.

Perfect place to stop in for a bite, during COVID times or in general. Not sure how I missed this over my many years visiting Bar Harbor, but glad to find it now! I stopped in here twice over the fall, and enjoyed the chicken sandwich both times. The menu is small but has something for everyone, and in a decent price range ($10-15). Plus the garden is the perfect place to space yourself out and people-watch while you eat. Next time, I plan to explore the used book offerings (and beer selection!) even more!

LOVED this place. Cute bookstore and cafe with great food and coffee. I had the tofu banh mi and my husband had the pork banh mi and both were delicious. We were only in Bar Harbor for four nights and wish we discovered it earlier, so we could have gone back again before we left.

Great outdoor dining setup during COVID. Lovely little garden setup. These folks mean business and I really appreciate their approach to cleanliness during these stressful times. Cool selection of sandwiches and coffee, beer and wine. Got a great glass of Chardonnay to compliment my fried chicken sandwich. Plus it looks like a really cool bookstore too - really liked the vibe inside.

We had both breakfast and lunch here. I had the banh mi breakfast sandwich. It was superb! The pulled pork sandwich and peanut sauce wrap. Both were very good. Don't let this cafe/bookstore fool you. Their food is exceptional! The location is really nice too. Great outdoor seating in a beautiful nook

The place was super crowded during the fall colors season. But we were able to get a spot ar the bar. Food wise: Tasty juicy rack of lamb on top of moist mashed sweet potatoes. Veggie sheperds pie was made with crispy eggplant covered in a white gravy The lobster roll was loaded with lobster. The roll was excellent but the fries were greasy and soggy. Cauliflower hummus dip tasted great with the cherry tomatoes. A couple of local craft brews were available at the bar. We enjoyed our conversation with the barkeep about what locals like to do at Acadia.

Although the staff was very friendly and my kids said the food was good, as a veteran I thought it inappropriate to have a sandwich named "Communist Manifesto". Sad that a place that closed early to celebrate Pride month doesn't have an understanding of how LGBTQ communities are historically treated under Communist regimes. Really turned me off of the place and made me not want to spend money there. Too bad because otherwise it was really a neat little place.

I stopped into this cafe for lunch recently while on vacation. The service and food was decent and the prices were generally on par with other nearby restaurants. There is a nice outdoor patio available. The bookshelves were full, which is probably a good trait when it comes to bookstores.

We were in Bar Harbor recently while on vacation. We happened upon Lampoc Café randomly while walking around downtown. I'm happy we did! We sat at the bar and the ambiance was warm and inviting. My wife and I both ordered the side salad and fish chowder. The side salad had a tangy vidalia onion style dressing that was amazing. One of the best salad dressings I've ever had. The salad greens were fresh and slightly peppery. Very tasty. The chowder was a mixture of fish, bacon, potatoes, butter, cream and more with a couple of pieces of bread on the side. The soup was really delicious and it paired really well with the side salad as well. Finally, the bartender/waiter, as well as the host, were very nice, helpful and accommodating. It's always nice to deal with a pleasant staff. Overall, we loved the place, the service and the food. We would definitely return if we are in the area again!

Visited a coffee shop, didn't order a coffee and am instead writing a review about their hot mama pizza. Also, my wife LOVED the banh mi. Who would have thought? Really excellent lunch spot.

This was a cute spot where we grabbed breakfast twice. The best items we had were the Morning Bee (goat cheese, apples, honey drizzle, and mixed greens on a toasted bagel-- who knew how delicious this would be?!) and the homemade maple pecan granola. We liked these items more than the pumpkin muffin we tried. The coffee was hot and tasty, which was critical for sitting outside in the fall during COVID times. Recommended for a quick, healthy, tasty grab and go breakfast spot.

Host does not have any idea of what size the beverage comes in. Ordered about 4 medium size cappuccinos and paid for it. Cappuccino came in smaller sizes. When asked why medium wasn't given, the host said that the drink came in only small size. This should have been mentioned before my order. Also, one of the drinks got mixed up and the host suggested that I already have the drink and might have mixed it up. Should I just suggest the hostess to taste the beverage before implicitly assuming I'm lying. I could suggest London fog tea as a good hot beverage. The service is really bad and during covid times, this establishment takes advantage of the tourists.

Excellent food, awesome atmosphere and friendly staff! We had the Beehive appetizer, Falafel burger and the Banh Mi with Korean BBQ Pulled Pork. Everything was fresh and tasted AMAZING!! This is now my new favorite restaurant in Bar Harbor.

This was definitely my favorite place in Bar Harbor! We had Pork Bahn Mi, Communist Manifesto, and a Chocolate Chip Cookie. Both sandwiches were perfectly seasoned, and the chocolate chip cookie was the perfect balance of buttery and sweet. They are not afraid of spice, and have hit Nirvana with their flavors. Off all the places we visited in town, this was the first where we nodded together, and said YES!

In a town with lots of fancy choices, Lompoc manages, it would seem anyway, to fly under the radar. However, this is a hidden gem! The menu is a bit eclectic, with options including Mediterranean, Indian, American, etc. Started the night off with appetizers: fried ricotta balls, and hummus and pita. The ricotta balls remind me of fried risotto balls or hush puppies, but made of cheese (duh). Some sort of green herb, possibly parsley, and onion help to round out the dish. The hummus and pita was also very good; excellent pita and a hummus accompanied by some sort of chili or chili paste that makes a nice pairing. Dinner course included a bbq hamburger with a fried egg (for only $1 extra) and their take on a Cuban sandwich. Both were great! And, in a touristy town filled with expensive dinners, Lompoc has much more reasonable prices and was a welcome discovery. Beers on tap included lots of local brews and a good selection. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

Off the Main Street in Bar Harbor, therefore not crowded. Very nice outdoor patio seating. Get the Beehive, you won't be disappointed. Also, the chicken blueberry poppers were delightful. Hubby got the Caesar salad with fried shrimp and he was very happy with his choice. We will take happy food memories back to Texas tomorrow, otherwise we would come back here for dinner tomorrow!

An effort at Indian/sandwich fusion that left me wanting more. Ok so not every dish was based on Indian cuisine, but I still can't quite figure out what this establishment was aiming for. The menu was full of literary puns though, which made for a fun read. We started off with the mussels. The mussels themselves were great, but the sauce was weird and not good on its own. My BF got the lamb shawarma and was a fan of it. However, I got the fish chowder and peanut sauce plate, both subpar. The soup was oily and full of salted instead of fresh fish, and the nan was very tough. A couple of final notes: though it wasn't super busy, service was slow. For whatever reason, it is extremely cold inside so I would recommend bringing and wearing a jacket indoors.

One of the rare places in Bor Habor that has decent vegan options. Such good food! Do try their vegan bahn mi and pesto flatbread- yum!

Fun is good. ~ Dr. Seuss I admit we stopped by Lompoc after reading about their awesome Bocce court and the location of being off the beaten path. Imagine: a perfect and serendipitous summer evening, the sky full of stars, live music, sharing cold beverages and hobnobbing while playing Bocce with the friendly locals. Anything you've read about the mussels served here is true because just about every table had a huge plate of them (with another order on the way); Dee said they were fantastic and worth every yelp star here. That said, the menu is limited and the mussels are probably their biggest seller. I opted for the Greek pie and it was very good. The entire front area of the restaurant is uncovered and left open to the fresh ocean air and exquisite summertime weather; oh, how I would love to be caught in a rainstorm here.

Hidden little gem with excellent sandwiches and beautiful outdoor cafe seating. The Bang Bang is a must-get and the Honeycomb was unexpectedly delicious (ciabatta is super soft!)

Great coffee and policies during COVID19. The bookstore sections had hand sanitizer and gloves - a small and thoughtful gesture for the customer. The coffee was incredible, we came here nearly every day of our time on Mount Desert Island (even though we were staying outside of Bar Harbor)! I strongly recommend the Mocha, both hot AND iced!

Went to the Lompoc Cafe last night and was quickly seated outside. My girlfriend and I shared The Beehive which was amazing! Goat cheese with honey and good size pieces of garlic, spread over good quality toasted bread with thin slices of Granny Smith Apple. I would highly recommend this appetizer. We also shared the small dish of pickled vegetables. Neither one of us were a fan of this dish....not because it tasted bad though. It was well done but I guess it just isn't our thing. I had the falafel burger which was decent. I would have preferred that it was done a bit crispier but it had good flavor and the bread it was served on was great. My girlfriend had the Buena Vista which she thought was really well done! The service was excellent and the ambiance was very relaxing and friendly. It's good value for money and have been there several times. Lompoc is a great place to go for those looking to venture away from the seafood centric menus of a lot of the places around town. I love their eclectic menu most of all. I do hope they have the fried beets back on the menu next time I go because those were awesome!

Go here, especially to have your expectations beyond met. The food, service, and ambiance are excellent. A lot of food has a lot of veggies or is implicitly surprising. Try the spicy Dijon mussels or the Beehive to start! Lompoc has a solid list of local beers, and don't pass up the non-alcoholic Maine ginger root beer. There's a shortlist of cocktails with ginger beer on their menu. I've tried the Southern style salad with crispy dark chicken, and several of their scrumptious pizzas. Lompoc is hip, a bit dim, and comfy, with bocce ball beside their manger. It's unique and a gem, but definitely greatly paired with Morning Glory Bakery across the street, and Reel Pizza Cinema down the path.

Went here on our last night in Bar Harbor, walked by almost every night so figured why not give it a try. Only issue (and why 4 Stars), the menu on Yelp is 2-3 years out of date (We were told). We were initially drawn in by two dishes on the entree menu but they no longer have an entree menu. Started with the a Beehive appetizer and a definite must. The combination of goat cheese, roasted garlic and honey drizzle was incredible! For dinner I had the fish chowder which was very good amid the Korean BBQ Scallops which were delicious. So if you go (and I recommend you do) just ignore the entree menu online and you won't be disappointed!

Hubby, daughter and I had lunch here a couple of weeks ago. We decided to hit up the Cafe because the guide books we had and Yelp all advertized it as a brew pub. They may have had some great beers on tap but they were not a brew pub per se (hence the loss of a star). As we pulled into Bar Harbor the streets were flooded with people who had just disgorged from 2 huge cruise ships. We were a litte afraid that the restaurant would be mobbed but it's on a side street and must not be on the cruise ship radar. Better for us that way, we sat in the quiet courtyard enjoying the late summer sun. Daughter got chicken fingers and french fries which were homemade, not some frozen junk. Hubby got a bowl of lobster and cod chowder which he said was pretty amazing and we split a Bang Bang sandwich - everything was great, waitress was pleasant, helpful and right on task.
