Lonely Mouth Bar

We celebrated Valentine’s Day here about a month ago and I finally got the chance to write a review. The food was good overall. The ramen was okay, nothing very memorable, but the beef tartare was delicious and definitely the standout dish. Worth trying if you are curious.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had such a wonderful experience at Lonely Mouth Bar on Valentine’s Day. The service, vibe, and atmosphere were genuinely top-tier. Our waitress, Mary, was absolutely incredible — warm, attentive, and impressively on the ball. She even came by before the happy hour cutoff to make sure we had a chance to order, which was thoughtful and above-and-beyond. She was efficient, kind, and just an absolute pleasure the entire evening. I also want to shout out Momo, who was helping run food and drinks for the team. Her energy was so positive and welcoming that she truly added to the atmosphere of the whole place. You can feel when someone enjoys what they do — and she absolutely does. And to the gentleman behind the bar: I didn’t catch your name, but the drinks were elite. I had the Okinawa Nights, which was beautifully made and balanced. We also ordered the tiramisu for dessert with matcha on top, and my date absolutely loved it — such a great way to end the night. The overall vibe and atmosphere deserve their own praise. It was warm, lively, and beautifully put together. Honestly, even if the food hadn’t been delicious, I’d still come back just for the energy of the space alone. It felt special, effortless, and memorable. Between the service, the ambiance, the desserts, and the quality of the drinks, this place made our Valentine’s night feel truly special. We’ll absolutely be back.

Very cool atmosphere and vibe here serving Japanese dishes. Their udon in the kake udon was bouncy and the broth was delicious, especially with an onsen egg. I really liked the spirited away cocktail too. The hand rolls were a little smaller than i expected of regular hand rolls but it was still delicious.

Came here a little ago for the first time, have always passed by this place when around the 17th ave area. The atmosphere is really nice, great ambiance, loved the decoration. The staff were so sweet and on top of stuff. Very efficient. The food was great. Between my friend and I we got sushi hand rolls, udon, and tempura. The food was great, full of flavour, and very well plated. Good prices for the food. Will come again, they have tons of food I’m dying to try.

Update (from original 2⭐️ review): After being welcomed back by manager Rebecca to enjoy a meal at Lonely Mouth the way I had originally expected I might, I understand now why it’s always so highly recommended. It was another special occasion night and was a very different experience this time, for the better. We were greeted right away upon arriving, and our server Yuliya was wonderful. She was attentive, so friendly, kind, gave great recommendations, and charmed with her sassy humour. The space felt more warm and inviting this time around; the food was as amazing as before but the difference in the service experience is really what made this return visit so memorable. I’m very appreciative to have been invited back for a much better evening, and I won’t hesitate to come back again or pass along my recommendation to anyone looking to enjoy some really incredible Japanese food. Thank you! —————————— (15-02-2026) I chose to book through OpenTable for my first time here to celebrate a birthday, which was noted on the reso. When I arrived a few minutes before the reservation time, I stood at the door for several minutes, not acknowledged at all by who I thought was the hostess. Eventually the bartender asked if I’d been helped, took my name for the reso and said he’d be right back…and still nothing. A few minutes later the hostess came back, said something about the table I booked still being occupied and said she had another one for me but it needed to be cleared off. After close to 10mins I was finally seated in the back corner of the dining room, not the sunroom where I had booked for. Now, I waited some more…and more…and it was close to another 10 minutes before our server Sebastian showed up at the table, intro’d himself and offered water, which set the tone for the rest of the visit. There must have been short staff issues with the kitchen as well as the servers. Our first plates came out before the sake we ordered, and the wrong bottle was brought out (it ended up being comped). We were also brought the wrong dessert, but had no intention of asking to have it corrected, or stay any longer, because the experience was already fairly disappointing. The food was excellent, but I’ll hesitate to return after this experience, which was meant to be a special meal out. The explanation that it ‘was so much busier’ than they expected seemed strange - it was happy hour on the Sunday of a long weekend and Valentine’s the day before; it should have been well expected that it would be busy The final disappointment was that I was marked as a no-show for the reservation, so I had to clear that up with OpenTable. I also fail to see the point of putting a note on the reso about whether or not the visit is for a special occasion, when it goes completely ignored by the restaurant.

Service, food, and ambience were amazing. I give the overall service 3 stars as waiting times for food (my friend and I ordered quite a lot) made us a bit antsy, but we persevered the wait! We understand we dined during Valentine’s, the wait was totally worth it. Will definitely come back to enjoy the Bluefin Tuna Tartare with more gratitude. I ate it so quickly I wish I savoured it more.

Lonely Mouth is such a fun spot with a great vibe and amazing food. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavourful, and clearly made with care. The menu has really unique combinations that actually work so well together, and each dish felt thoughtfully done. The atmosphere is lively but still comfortable, making it a perfect place to go with friends or for a casual night out. The staff were friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. If you’re looking for a place with bold flavours, great energy, and consistently good food, Lonely Mouth is definitely worth checking out. I’ll for sure be coming back.

I loved everything there and the food was delicious and beautifully prepared! We got the light and crispy tempura and bento box for lunch and also stayed longer and tried their katsu Sando during happy hour. I would return to try more items. You get offered still or sparking water too. I love their ceramics too used to serve the food/ drinks.

Came here at 11pm on a Friday night and there was surprisingly no wait and was kind of empty inside. My fiance and I ordered the curry udon, the kake udon with chicken, and a tonkatsu sando. We were pleasantly surprised with how great everything tasted. The udon is freshly made and the soups were so flavorful. The chicken was so tender and went really well with the broth. The tonkatsu sando was light and crispy and the sauce was tangy and smoky. Great spot for late night eats! It's located next to lots of bars so it was pretty loud. Servers were super nice and accommodating to let us move to a different table since it was too loud.

Food is very good here. A personal favourite is the scallop hand roll. Also had the curry udon and that was wonderful as well. The tuna tartare is a hit or miss sometimes - I've gotten it over salted and just perfect, so I guess depends on the chef. Happy hour always has good prices. Service could use a little work when it gets busy. Your table goes unnoticed for a good 20+ minutes even with 5 different workers walking by you every two minutes. Takes them a long time to get to you when you ask for assistance.

The hostess was extremely rude (rolled her eyes when we wanted to confirm we were sitting in the dining area instead of patio). Waitress was very nice and service was fine. We ordered the salmon, zuke, and scallop sashimi and the quality wasn't great. The flavor of the hand rolls (spicy salmon&negi toro) was okay. Udon noodles in Kake udon had a very nice chewy texture and the soup base was good. Lonely Mouth Sour cocktail had a nice yuzu flavor and worked perfectly with the egg white foam at the top.

This place has a very good Happy Hour menu. Their udon noodles during their happy hour is a great price and the noodles are delicious. I've been here twice but only during their Happy Hour so I cannot comment on the rest of the menu. Service is great. Will come back to try their regular menu someday.

The atmosphere was nice. But for the price/portion size. You are better off getting sushi elsewhere. The pieces of the sashimi on the platter were very small and thin. For that I expected better quality. The hand rolls were smaller than the typical cone, nothing outstanding. Enjoyed the miso code, but it was quite pricey for the portion. I don't think I would go back.

We had the sashimi platter and curry udon. Curry udon was pretty good. Was disappointed with the sashimi platter. Was expecting bigger portions, or at least if the portions were small, I expected the quality of fish to be better. I don't think I would go back unless it is during happy hour.

Delicious meal, lovely atmosphere, and fancy cocktails. The service was very good and they were very careful with the allergies in our group.

I can't resist freshly made noodles. We traveled to Calgary last month and found that Lonely Mouth Bar has freshly made udon during happy hours, where the udon is half-price and a hand roll is $4. Of course, we must give it a try. The ambiance was amazing and made me feel like I was in Japan. We ordered two udon and hand rolls. The hand roll didn't quite meet our expectations and was a bit small, but their house soy sauce was delicious and not too salty. We ordered the shaved beef and shredded chicken udon. They were top-notch. The udon was fantastic, chewy, fresh and served with flavorful broth. We finished everything, including the broth. The portions were generous. However, the happy hour promotion was only for plain udon $8 and the meat was the regular price. It was actually a bit pricey without the happy hour promotion.

Such good food! Very attentive servers! Pretty cool ambiance. Happy hour prices are great!

Pricey..... but worth it! Treated myself to dinner this Friday and saw that Lonely Mouth had a last minute reso spot on OpenTable. Ambience is great. Feels like a proper Japanese inspired restaurant. Staff and servers were all attentive and friendly. Food was solid!! Udon noodles are a must! My favorite dish I had tonight. Server told me that the noodles are made fresh each morning. Broth was also delicious. I also got a spicy salmon and crab hand rolls which are the only dishes designed to feed 1. Otherwise most of the dishes are traditionally shared. The shrimp tempura was fresh and crisp. And finally the roasted cauliflower was just okay to me - but everything else was delicious!!!

Delicious Asian inspired/ fusion dishes. Beautiful boho interior design with nice wood elements. Cocktails, as expected, are pricier ~$15.

We had a really lovely meal here! The udon was delicious and they make their noodles fresh every day. The yam tempura had a nice light batter and was yummy dipped in the udon broth. They were extremely receptive to my shrimp allergy and the staff was overall super nice. Would recommend! The vibe is awesome!

Their food is the best sushi rolls i have EVER had. The people there are so nice rhey gave us cold towels since it was super hot ! The style is very luxurious and rustic at the same time.

Great ambience Japanese restaurant located on 17th Ave. The milk buns I would pass although they were fresh but not worth the price. The sando was a nice bite size starter to share. The chips that came with the tuna tartar was a bit oily but nothing special as its something I could get at cactus club. The Udon had good flavouring and the noodles were a nice texture. The price is a bit steep at this place so not a go to for me

Another good Concorde group place with a nice vibe! My favourite was the tuna tatare. It was light, fresh, and flavourful. The Brussel sprouts were pretty good too. The tempura was nicely fried and crispy. We also ordered the wagyu beef and spicy salmon hand rolls. I didn't like the how they mostly tasted like rice and seaweed. I would have preferred more meat inside. The turnips were a nice palate cleanser, but I felt the bottom pieces were quite heavy on the miso flavoring. I really enjoyed the scallops and oysters on the sashimi platter. The sauce they give you with the platter is unique and pairs well with all the pieces.

Great service. Catered to all allergies in advance. Sushi rolls were incredible. Cold udon was unique and so satisfying. Beautiful interior. Would highly recommend.

The food and staff were absolutely amazing! We came in late around midnight and we're given excellent service, really want to give the kitchen a shout out for staying late and cooking for us. Bartenders Jack & Mia were also very accommodating as well. We had the peach fuzzin, tea ceremony, and their rosemary cosmo. Want to also shout out the sexy robot cocktail. All drinks were presented well and tasted so good, it's one of my favorite cocktail bars now. The food was 10/10, pretty much ordered the entire menu I have zero critiques. I would highly recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family. The vibe of this place is so chill and sexy, really admire the entire ambiance. Thank you again Lonely Mouth Team!

Absolutely awful service. We had a reservation and were asked to leave when guests at our table were still eating their dinner. It was unbelievable.

I did not have high expectations! It was a really beautiful restaurant with amazing customer service. The hand sushi roll was so good. The seaweed had perfect flavour. The curry beef udon is amazing. I was nervous trying a curry in a Japanese soup. But it was so good with a very soft beef brisket that did not get stuck in my teeth. A soft runny egg was a perfect top off. The Udon was perfect softness. The cod was soft and perfectly flavored. Buttery. I strongly recommend these dishes and you must come and try this amazing experience.

The food was delicious but the service was incredibly disappointing. despite making multiple rounds of orders my table of 5 was effectively kicked out of the restaurant. I understand need to manage reservations to the best of their ability to maximize seatings but the way we were dealt with was so off putting. I won't go back. There were multiple solutions the restaurant could have offered to accommodate us but they did not. An overall bad experience and I can't recommend.

The service was awful, which is unfortunate because the food is so good. The servers were rude and when our table was needed for another party, they essentially kicked us out mid meal and drinks.

the ambiance was really nice. the entrance to the restaurant was this giant cool wooden door, which added to the overall vibe of the restaurant. it does run a bit chilly so be prepared for that. there was a wide variety of drinks available from wines to sakes to cocktails. their dinner menu was small and specialized. the portion sizes were very small. each hand roll order was just for one. definitely wouldn't come here if i was very hungry. the service was great; our waiter and the other servers explained the food very well.

Heard it was a new bar in the area and it did not miss! The ambiance was intimate and modern. There were so many options for drinks on the menu, but the Lonely Mouth Sour really hit the mark for me! I will have to come back to try more food on the menu!

Ordered the milk buns, hand rolls and the sashimi. All super tasty. Portion sizes are small though. Ambiance was good but the room runs a bit cold.

You can eat here if you want to spend way too much money on really small portions of sashimi with a side of grit. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The rolls are also ridiculous, they aren't cut for novelty or trend I'm assuming making the roll really difficult to eat because the nori is chewy and the meat is then not evenly spread out through the roll. The food itself is ok, but I honestly can't remember the last time I ate at a restaurant and felt so disappointed.
