At 728 meters long, the Long Corridor (長廊 - Cháng Láng) is the longest covered walkway in the world. Built in 1750, it allowed visitors to walk to other parts of the park without getting wet or in the cool shade of the palaces in summer. The wooden walkway was severely damaged in 1860 during the Second Opium War, but was restored in 1886 by order of Empress Dowager Cixi. The walkway consists of 273 sections, four pavilions (representing the four seasons), and the Cloud Dispelling Gate, which leads to the Hall of Dispelling Clouds (Paiyundian), one of the main temples of the Summer Palace. The Long Corridor is, of course, particularly famous for its lavish decoration, which comprises more than 14,000 paintings. The paintings depict episodes from Chinese classical literature, folk tales, historical and legendary figures, and famous Chinese buildings and landscapes. Take your time strolling through the Long Corridor and enjoy the beautiful paintings! (P.S. Pay particular attention to the eight major paintings in the pavilions.)

The Long Corridor (长廊) stretches 728 meters along the northern shore of Kunming Lake, it’s the longest painted corridor in the world, with more than 14,000 detailed paintings on its beams & panels. The artwork depicts Chinese myths, legends, landscapes & flowers in vivid colors. Four octagonal pavilions along the way represent the four seasons. Shaded & breezy, the corridor offers ever-changing views of the lake & Longevity Hill — a beautiful place to stroll, rest & take in the palace’s harmony of art & nature.

Supposedly the longest corridor! But i would class it as a covered walkway really as there are no sides. Still, it’s very interesting architecturally. A long section was closed for maintenance so we couldn’t walk the full length. Also it gets very busy so if crowds are not your thing then maybe think twice!

The Long Corridor is a covered walkway along the Northern shore of Lake Kunming at the Summer Palace. During our visit some sections were being renovated, but the other sections were still open to view. We visited in September and there were huge crowds, so not really able to enjoy the intended serenity. Quite impressive all the same and very ornately painted, suggest visiting on a weekday when it is slightly less crowded

"The Long Corridor was originally built in 1750 and then rebuilt in 1886 after the Anglo French Allied Forces burned it down in 1860. It starts from Yaoyue Men (Gate of Inviting the Moon) in the east and ends at Shizhang Ting (Stone Old Man Pavilion) in the west, a distance of 728 metres with 273 sections. It is the longest of all the corridors in Chinese classical gardens. On the beams are more than 14,000 colourful paintings depicting birds, flowers, landscapes and stories from Chinese literary classics. Four octagonal pavilions with double eaves "Mesmerising Scenery,” “Harmonising with the Lake,” “Autumn Water” and “Clear and Carefree," were built intermittently along the corridor. Taking the Hall of Dispelling Clouds as the centre, the Long Corridor stretches symmetrically to the east and the west along the foot of the hill and the lakeshore, linking all the structures scattered along the Longevity Hill into a whole."

The longest corridor in the world! All 728m of it made of wood, which is intricately hand painted, showing the grandeur of the Qing Dynasty. It runs between Summer Palace and Kunming Lake. There are around 10,000 paintings here depicting landscapes, Chinese folklore, and actual historical events. The elaborate detail was so amazing that I had a pain in my neck looking up for so long! It's a pity you have to manoeuvre your way around hundreds of tourists to see this, but the shelter from the intense June sun was welcome here, and there are great views of the lake. As you are here anyway for the unmissable Summer Palace, you really have to take this amazing walk.

A long covered walkway with over 8000 intricate paintings depicting scenes from Chinese literary classics and old fables. There are also four octagonal pavilions connected by the corridor, each one with a theme and more elaborate artwork (don't miss the ceilings). Worth taking a stroll through.

Stretching over 700 meters along the picturesque Kunming Lake, this corridor boasts intricately painted ceilings and vibrant hand-painted panels depicting Chinese mythology, landscapes, and historical events. As you stroll through, the cool breeze from the lake complements the tranquil ambiance, offering a serene escape from the bustling city.
