Long Island MacArthur Airport

This was a great experience. I usually fly out of Kennedy or LaGuardia, but this was a really nice change. JetBlue, Southwest, Frontier, Avelo, and Breeze airlines operate out of this regional transportation hub. Getting through security was incredibly efficient. I might add that I felt TSA and security were more on their game than at most of the major hubs. I'm not sure why that is, but it is. There are mostly southeast coastal destinations but Orlando is really where it's at, I mean come on, the mouse is the destination. With that in mind, be aware that there are limited flight times so take that into consideration. I flew JetBlue and really had no complaints with the entire process. There is a coffee shop, a few small eateries and a book shop but nothing extraordinary, if you want that it comes with crowds and a price tag. Macarthur is a good pick for easy access and competitive fares. If you want first class seating and a flat white, then keep heading west.

Some of the amenities and dining/retail options are more modest compared to the major hubs—so don’t expect massive luxury lounges or dozens of shops. Though the process was smooth for me, if you’re checking bags or traveling during a busy holiday window, it’s still wise to arrive at least 1‑2 hours ahead. Final thoughts: For a regional airport that avoids the chaos of big‑city hubs, Long Island MacArthur Airport is a solid choice. Convenient access, fast check‑in and security, and an overall relaxed feel make it ideal for travelers based on Long Island (or passing through). I’d give it 4 out of 5 stars—and I would absolutely fly through there again.

Well done! I lived on Long Island for nearly 30 yeara and its been a long time since I flew into McArthur. Wow, what a wonderfully dramatic improvement. It's no longer an executive airport like experience. It now has a truly fashionable and worthy status as an excellent airport. Grow! Fly!

Not a really big fan of this airport at all. The walkability around the area is garbage and there is no way to get from the LIRR to this place conveniently early in the morning. If you fly avelo I recommend tweed if ur not from Long Island. TTN is better too . Also the bathrooms are disgusting and the place is past its prime

Terrible airport. Staff lie straight in your face and get disrespectful with you over their actions. I got there one minute before my gate closes for them to tell me “its already closed.. we even held the door a couple of minutes. You have to rebook.” This has happened TWICE at the same airport and with the same staff where they close their gate early on me. Stop closing your gates early.

On my birthday, flying out of MacArthur Airport to MCO, I received amazing assistance from Ramon Jr. at the JetBlue desk. He truly made my day so special — giving me a shout-out in the airport and even arranging a birthday shout-out on the plane! Thank you, Ramon Jr., for such a wonderful send-off. ✈️🎂

Gorgeous updated airport, quiet and clean, short turnaround times, great for departure. For arrivals you should make sure you have the transit or rental car, It’s quick, no long lines at tsa, you won’t have trouble getting dropped off directly at the entrance. As soon as you walk in you will see all airlines and its very easy to find the gates

This is hands down the calmest airport I’ve ever been to!. It’s quick, no long lines at tsa, you won’t have trouble getting dropped off directly at the entrance. As soon as you walk in you will see all airlines, it’s pretty hard to get lost there. Highly recommend flying out of this airport if you don’t like the fast paced over crowded airports. It was actually cheaper to fly from here compared to the other airports.

I love Islip! It is so convient and even though it doesn't have many direct flights (other than Orlando and Baltimore) You can get to most major cities if you don't mind transferring. For me living WAY on East End Long Island, transferring planes to get where I need to go out of Islip is worth saving the headache of having to drive to JFK or LGA - not to mention truly needing to arrive 2 hours or at least 90 minutes early because of long line and just the madness of navigating the various terminals. Islip has one releativly small terminal and its a breeze to get through TSA. I've flown various times of the day and never waited more than 20 minutes in security (and that was during holiday travel) If you have TSA pre its even quicker (not that you need it for Islip) but you don't have to take anything off and can practically walk right through. I had a 4:30 flight this afternoon and arrived to the airport at 3:45 and had time to go to the rest room, grab a coffee at Dunkin and still make it to my gate in time to board with my group (Southwest). Note: I am a solo travel and have timing down to a science, if you are traveling with children or are a slow walker I would not cut it as close as I do. For this airport, I suggest as a general rule, arriving 75 minutes before your plane departure, add 15 minutes to this if you care about boarding with your group, particularly on South West. Addd another 15-20 minutes on particularly busy times of year (really just Christmas and Thanksgiving), it never really gets THAT crowded and the buffer is more about peace of mind then actual need. HAPPY TRAVELS!

Long Island is a beautiful island but it's very difficult to get around transportation wise. So they have the MacArthur Ipsy airport. It is somewhat in the middle of the island but still an hour away from the fork of the island where you have Montauk & the Hamptons and Greenport on the other fork. So you either spend close to a hundred bucks to Uber/Lyft, or they have a taxi service for around $180-$200 one way!! No lie! Or you can take the bus into the city but it takes around 3-3 1/2 hours to get to the fork. The other option is to rent a car and if you've ever been to Long Island for the 4th of July, you're going to pay premium price! MacArthur is a very small airport. Very clean, very sterile looking, no frills, nothing exciting at this airport. They do have a big rental office for 5-6 different rental companies a few steps away from the airport... Again, the transportation in Long Island is expensive or inconvenient so bear that in mind when traveling to Long Island...

Here we go, I love this airport. It's local ,easy to get to. Located East of Long Island near Long Island Expressway. Getting through checkpoint to the gate is simple.and easy. In my opinion give yourself at least an hour or so. This airport is much smaller than JFk or Laguardia airport. I think this airport need to expand a bit with more airlines flying out to multiple locations. Storefronts are great . There are the basics of course Starbucks among other small stores to buy last minute travels snacks, etc. Rent a car service is very convenient. They just need more representatives to assist with renting and prepping cars, trucks. The minus with this airport is because it's a smaller airport the flights are much more expensive. Otherwise I really love this airport . Happy yelping.....

If Long Island is your destination or home, ISP is a hidden gem! It's a small airport with friendly staff at convenient location. I haven't experienced any long lines nor cranky employees. However they only have the basics! Don't expect luxury or variety. It would be nice if more airlines serviced this airport which for me personally is a drawback as I travel internationally a lot. I would love to see American Airlines come back!

Good morning, my dear Yelpers! It's summertime for a little escape before it's over! I must say that this airport is very convenient. It's a ten minute drive from my house! This airport is widely used by my fellow long islanders. Highly recommend it for domestic flight destinations. I just traveled to Orlando, Florida. The check-ins were fast and easy; using the kiosks were a breeze. I say goodbye to La Guardia airport. Hello Macarthur irport!

This place is the best - it's small - you don't have to arrive 3 hours early- I have TSA pre check and never need to use it here - a couple of food options if you're hungry, also the TSA agents are always super polite, helpful and courteous. I dread when I need to fly out of the large airports - this place has spoiled me. Also parking is free for Town of Islip residents and they have paid parking on site for the non residents

Like most smaller airports Long Island's Macarthur is a throwback to when flying was an event and security was a smile and a wave. Unfortunately, what you do have are very limited flights which means if they're canceled or delayed you're screwed, unless you want to hoof it over to JFK or LGA which almost negates the wisdom of MacArthur to begin with. However, when schedules click you feel smart for bypassing the twin nightmares in Queens. An optimistic four stars.

I had a flight scheduled for 9:51pm, that day the flight was delayed until 12:35am the next morning due to weather. The delays happened early in the day. I arrived at the airport for my flight around 11pm and security was closed, everyone from TSA had left. Because there was nobody running security nobody was allowed to get on the flight after that point. I was told I had to have to been there at my original flight time. I understand people have to go home at some point but there needs to be some kind of work around for situations like this. If the airport is aware a flight is going to be delayed that long, and customers have been informed in advance it is reasonable to expect that people will wait to arrive at the airport. It was a real nightmare to arrive there with what me and many others thought was plenty of time, and then have to scramble to rebook in order to get to the destination. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else in the future. With all the construction going on at this airport the least they could do is hire some more employees in case a flight is pushed back.

I saw someone mention that this airport has no rude workers like JFK. Well, I think this one girl Emily caught the nasty bug because her snappy attitude wasn't called for at 6 am. I simply stated that my bag wasn't a problem when coming to visit NY and her reply was nasty. I've seen how these interviews go for working with an airline. How did she land the job? She knew she was nasty because she didn't even make eye contact with me. Yes, Emily from Frontier Airlines that was at gate A3 on Monday Oct 10th, 2022 standing by the line to snatch up anyone with a bag that "looked like" it wouldn't fit in that bullsh** bin. If you guys need the money for Frontier just be a little more polite. I've never been rude to anyone in a customer service job because I've held those same positions but let me tell you...anyone flying our of Long Island MacArthur airport...watch out for Emily. She's a nasty broad. I wonder if she even charged that crazy blonde that threw her whole body on top of her bag to push it in the bin. That was pretty hilarious but Emily's tone sure did soften for that sh** show. Shout out to the new girl that was training at the gate. She came aboard and wished everyone a safe flight before we took off with a smile on her face.

Love Mac Arthur Airport as this is my home base! As a young man from Long Island, you get familiar with the easy-breezy TSA service and beautiful terminal. The terminal includes a Dunkin' Donuts, Blue Point Brewery bar, sandwich area, and gift shops. Such a wonderful local hub for traveling to destinations all over the country. Close to home and easy to get to when you live on the island. Have fun traveling!

Excellent airport for local flights, clean and not overcrowded, the people are usually friendly and helpful. I like to fly out of here better than Kennedy or La Guardia airports, unfortunately there's limited flights out of here, I guess that is what makes it so nice and uncrowded

Although this airport seems small, I love how clean it always is and it is perfect to fly into when coming into Long Island. I have been using MacArthur these past months traveling back and forth to Long Island and it couldn't be an easier experience for me. I have used LGA and JFK but when coming in from Orlando through Frontier I'd recommend MacArthur so you won't need to wait on long lines. Very easy process.

Their restaurant and their shops are so over priced that is sick why must they over charge for everything? Captive audience take advantage and it's 7:31 and the over priced stores are closing, really? Wtf just another shitty airport boo on u

Isn't it time for Long Island to get with the program? Don't get wrong that ISP is a nice, quiet airport far from the zoo of JFK and grime of LGA and EWR. This makes it all the more disappointing. It's very conveniently located for LIers but the main problem is there are far too few airlines that fly in-out from here, only 3 total and none are very good (Southwest, Breeze and awful Frontier). And of course no International flights either (Albany, NY airport is an Int'l airport that's part of the Capital District - which has barely over 1 million ppl). There are over 7 million ppl on Long Island so it's a bit of a mystery why there are so few airlines flying to-from here, there aren't even many that go to Vegas! This is unacceptable. Perhaps Long Islanders are just glutton for punishment like most New Yorkers and will schlep to-fro to NYC to fly. A big disappointment overall, hopefully things change in the future!

Love my little convenient airport. Has a cute bar ( only one) serves some fresh hot French fries and cold beers before your flights. Dully stocked gift shop for just about anything you will need. Cute shirts, LI memorabilia for those last minute gifts Right now I believe only 2 airlines. Frontier and southwest at the moment. Easy travel for sure!! Get out and travel if you can.

The is good but Frontier is money hungry at this airport. They will harass you about your personal idea/book bag. They made my wife put her snap purse in her small book bag or pay a fee... we went through Orlando same bags a purse no problem... every time we come here there is a problem with Frontier. But the airport is great.

Travel to this airport in Long Island to drop off my sister for her domestic flight. Distance wise it is further away than the two other major airports in the city. This airport is small, so finding gates and terminals are all within a short range. Airport itself is kept clean with plenty of benches to sit and wait. There aren't many food court areas, best bet is the newsstand that sells some snacks. Parking lots are huge and the parking rates was decent. Overall, good airport for domestic flights

Nice enough airport, nothing too special but nowhere near as bad as many other airports that are outdated and a little bit of a national embarrassment. Was a little annoyed that none of the gift shops carried postcards but did like my interactions with TSA employees here. They were nice and funny, especially for a west coaster like myself that finds east cost folks to be full of personality.

Way too easy and pleasant. Quiet small town feel the opposite of the big airports. If you can get your flight out of here its definitely the way to go. Dropping off one of my best friends for his snowbird return to sunny Florida... worried slightly about the crowds during Covid... no need.. Roomy, spacious, clean inside, not too crowded.. no chaos... plenty of easy pull up and drop off parking... no crazy traffic cops. No complicated parking.. just walk over but didn't need to.. Only one in the drop off lane. I'm sure in summer or before holiday time there might be more traffic.. but today was super.

Great small airport. Easy to get around. Quick Walk to next door for rental cars. Decent grab and go of quick food/drink options like bagels, Dunkin', Nathan's. For a NYC airport- this is the simplest way to get to Long Island

This airport is not crowded, everyone is helpful, and it's easy to pick up and drop off passengers. The rental place is a short walk outside . Summer time is no problem, but during the cold winters I can see the inconvenience. The only thing this place lacks is the upbeat vibe of MIA and FLL, but then again it is Long Island. Not too many restaurants, but I see some new construction. Maybe in the near future it will get better and earn 5 stars.

No costumer service 0 stars keeps delaying my flight and won't keep me updated nothing to let me know when my flight will depart

This is a very nice airport to fly in and out of. It is small and has maybe 8 gates. Frontier, Southwest and Breeze have flights. Security is generally swift as with any smaller, regional airport. Security outside is lenient for waiting to pick up passengers. I love listening to the birds and the music that plays on the loudspeaker outside while waiting. Parking even in long term economy rivals major airports at $15.50/day and goes upwards from there. An airport this size I would expect around $7/day but this is not the case. If you don't have a ride, getting to and from this airport can present a challenge as there are no public transit options that I am personally aware of. The closest train station I believe would be the Ronkonkoma LIRR, but you would still need to take a taxi or ride share service like Lyft or Uber. This is a well maintained airport.

MacArthur is no thrills but so much more convenient than flying into the city if you're visiting Long Island. Obviously it's small and that means fewer places to grab food or a drink but there is your typical airport bookstore, a Dunkin' Donuts, a brewery restaurant, etc. On our recent visit getting through TSA was a breeze, I think there were more employees working than people going through security. Airlines flying in are limited but it's much easier to navigate and get in and out of than JFK or Laguardia.

The airport is one of the smallest and alternative airports to use instead of LGA and JFK. It seems that only 3 airlines are being serviced Frontier, Southwest and American. To get or leave the airport the best way would be taking the LIRR to Ronkonkoma and than take the $5 per person shuttle to and from airport. Check in seems and TSA lines run pretty quick.

It's a small airport, served by Southwest, Frontier, American, and possibly some small commuter airlines. However, security is quick, there aren't a lot of crowds, and they have a shuttle to the LIRR. If your destination is on LI or even if you're going into the city and don't mind taking the train in, this could be the airport for you! There are a few restaurants (Irish pub type place, bar with small plates), a Starbucks, and a CNBC News store to occupy yourself before your flight. Most are post security. Lots of charging points around the gates, and plenty of bathrooms. The drop off/pick up area outside is well done and wasn't busy on the weekend when I was flying. I'd fly there again if I was going to Long Island itself. If I was traveling to NYC then you may have more options flying into JKF or LGA. Southwest flies from Baltimore and it's about an hour flight. Not sure how much traffic from major cities comes here, so that it why I took off a star.

Ohhhhhh, how I LOVE you, ISP... Our relationship has had it's ups and downs (ha!!) since Southwest has raised its prices, but I'll still ALWAYS choose you over your crazy "cousins" to the west, LaGuardia and Kennedy!! Easy in, easy out, no fuss, no muss... What more could you ask for?!? If you live and/or work on LI, or are visiting anywhere in the area, and you're able to get a reasonable flight on Southwest, this should be your go to airport. Even if you plans take you to NYC or farther away spots in the area, transportation's easy enough to find, and NOTHING beats skipping the HOT MESSES you'll find at the bigger airports in the region!!

The cleanest friendliest airport I have ever been too. I traveled alot for work...or I used to. Phoenix, Dulles, Denver, DTW, O'Haire, Tampa, Charlotte, SAC, Philly, Baltimore, Tampa, JFK, and Laguardia have nothing on Islip. You are through security and at your gate 10 minutes after arriving! Not alot of food and shopping...but really who ever said airport food was great...all airport good is kinda lousy. Well...Phoenix has decent food. But Islip is clean, not crowded, quick and efficient. They only have 3 airlines and almost no direct flights except to Florida, Baltimore and Philly. But....I still love Islip. My only gripe....you don't get the free Jerry Springer show you get at JFK. Lol.

I wish I could fly out of this Airport on every trip I make. There's no hustle or bustle or crowded waiting lines, just check in and get on your plane and go. They're only shortfall is that they do not have that many flights leaving but that is supposed to get better. There's plenty of parking long term or short and no problem picking up and dropping off passengers

So conveniently placed. Only airport on Long Island I don't need directions to find where I'm going once I'm there.

Tsa pre check line closed, what did I pay for? Such a huge inconvenience for those who plan around it

What's not to love about this gem of an airport for those of us who live on Long Island? From reasonable priced parking to the quick and efficient shuttle service that drops you off to your car to the quick and easy check in process and the almost non- existent wait to get through the TSA. Everyone I encountered was friendly, professional, and courteous. The fact that it is a small airport seems to make people more friendly and less robotic. The staff at the morning coffee and breakfast places were pleasant as well. About the only drawback to the whole experience was the crowded gates while waiting to board the aircraft. Whenever I'm able, I'll always book my flights from here and avoid the high traffic nightmares when going to other airports in the area.

NEVER AGAIN!!! Such an unpleasant experience that I'd rather go all the way out to JFK where the employees are NORMAL. Before going upstairs to our gate A3 we stopped at the bathroom and then decided to go to the store that was very close by .... So we went in and found a tee shirt we wanted . We went to the register The girl that looks like a guy named AMANDA who had previously been standing in front of the store where people walk by had begun a conversation with someone while we where standing there waiting to pay. Ok no problem I'm waiting - she's getting louder and more animated. Cursing , using the F word Talking about getting her period ( all while yelling... LOUDLY) at that point my friend and I looked at each other like what is this place. I had waited long enough and listened to too much. Being ignored at the register and then having to hear this vulgar conversation I put the magnet and tee shirt back and started walking away. Do you know this broad AMANDA gave the dirtiest look and as she did the guy she was talking too seemed to be relieved and took his chance to get away. She nearly RAN yes RAN after him saying WAIT WAIT ! Then don't even get me started with TSA. Never again

Awesome airport to fly! 1 terminal = simple and easy Lots of short term and long term parking. Check in and TSA can be done in about 7 minutes total LOL Highly recommended!

Since I moved back to Nassau County MacArthur has been my saving grace when traveling to visit our family in Tampa Florida. Once to twice a year, I get to skip paying for pricey Uber rides to LaGuardia and get the comfort of parking my car just a few feet from the Southwest Terminal. When I return to New York, I pay for my parking and Im home in 30- 45 minutes. No hassle. No insane traffic. No expensive Ubers. This airport has been a blessing. Parking can get expensive however, it's convenient for those who don't own a parking garage or don't want to risk missing their flight by taking the LIRR at the wee hours of the morning. Southwest makes life so easy with their Non-Stop flights and Bags that FLY FREE. I've also flown Frontier Airlines returning here from Tampa. That was a nightmare. I love how convenient it is to Check In and get through security. I love that this airport is perfect for families. When you travel with children you need that kind of experience and ease. After all, this is your vacation ! You should be stress free. Not feel like you're at work.

Not a bad airport to have to fly into and a whole heck of a lot cheaper than flying into LGA or JFK. When we landed on a Thursday afternoon the terminal was pretty dead. Walked down to ground transportation and a very friendly gentlemen walked us over to the airport shuttles to LIRR. He was talkative and helpful. Airport is clean. TSA is quick, not a ton of variety for food or sundries, but the airport is not that huge which is fine. Airport is about a 5-7 min ride to LIRR and then an hour and 25 min ride to Penn station.

I loved this airport. Small, quaint and great to travel from. They have a Starbucks, a typical airport shop, a sit down restaurant and then a little cafeteria type area. But that's only if you fly Southwest. My last few trips have been with Frontier. To get to the Frontier terminal you have to walk past all this stuff and you hope there is something when you get down to your Frontier gate. Nope. A couple of vending machines. That's it. And it's freezing as their gates are little added on type of building. I do hope the do something about the Frontier gates. Unfortunately no other choice for the local area.

I love this airport because it is so convenient. Much easier then trying to get a ride to JFK or LaGuardia. There is never a wait for TSA so you can get there like an hour before your flight its so easy! I just wish they had more airlines and more direct flights. I fly pretty frequently and it is usually hard to get a flight from here because 1. There is always inconvenient layovers or 2. The are so expensive. However, whenever possible I try to fly from here!

Bottom Line: easiest in and out airport ever! I LOVE this airport for its ease of getting in and out! Yes, it's small. And Yes it only flys to certain areas. And Yes they only have a few airlines going in and out, but if it's an option for your travel needs - pick it!! I've been flying in and out of here for over 30 years. Back then it was a teeny tiny airport. It has more than doubled in size but it is still so easy to navigate. If you are being dropped off - go from curb through doors and voila - there is your ticket counter. There is a cell phone lot, short term and long term parking - all directly in front of airport. Easy walk. Being a smaller airport the TSA security lines tend to be a lot quicker because there are usually only one or two flights scheduled to take off at the same time. Like I said, if you CAN make your travel plans include flying in and out of here - do it!!

Just would like to give a shoutout to a young man named, Patrick, who stayed by my 85 year old mother until her transportation ( SCAT bus) arrived. My mother's phone ( an oldie) went out of commission, and Patrick allowed for my mother to speak to me utilizing his phone. He was polite, caring, and went beyond his duties at the airport to assist my mother. How refreshing this is! Glad to know there are still some nice, kind people willing to extend themselves. I tried several times to call administration to have Patrick acknowledged for his kindness, but I was unable to make any contact. Thank you, Patrick! Your good deed did not go unnoticed!

What a great airport, small, efficient and safe it's everything you want every airport to be. I walked through the door a quarter of six, the dew barely off the window of my rental. I find no lines at the pre-check and only employees shuffling at the Starbucks right inside security. The gates are all empty as I find my seat near an outlet, it's the perfect time to arrive for an early morning departure. I watch a family of four struggle with their infant, a stroller, a diaper bag and two carry-ons. The mom holds a bottle and the families tickets while the dad manages the child and scroll through his phone checking into Yelp or confirming the weather. A business man gobbles his breakfast while strategizing his day, a older woman nervously reads her book gazing at every soul that passes her way. Unlike most airports the announcements are infrequent as are the incoming and departing flights. You won't find the large crowds here or congested counters with traveler voicing their frustrations or expressing displeasure. As I sip my latte I watch the sun creep up the broken sky as two pilots drag their bags towards the jetway discussing the flight plan. All is secure and well at MacArthur Air Field. After flight through here it will be very difficult to fly through LaGuardia or JFK when visiting Long Island....

This is my airport. I love the fact that we have an airport nearby that you can catch a flight to nearly anywhere. I remember when this airport was a small building with one or two airlines. Parking back then was on a grassy lawn area. Well the airport has expanded but still has just one or two airlines. Those of us who frequent ISP know that Southwest Airlines dominates this airport. That's OK with me because they fly most everywhere I travel to. There have been rumors of other airlines like Jet Blue coming here but as long as Southwest Airlines is breathing, that's not happening. Parking is easy enough, and they have an Islip Town resident parking area. I don't live in the Town of Islip so I can't say much about it or the rates. The gate area has a Starbucks, a bar/restaurant, and two QSR, Quick Service Restaurants. They've tried other restaurants but none succeed. I love this airport and use it several times a year for both personal and business travel. If you live in Long Island, specifically Suffolk County, this is the airport for you.

So this airport is the best keep secret. 85% of the staff that works at this location are locals, so therefore are people that care about the customer service they provide. If you happen to get someone that doesn't meet your expectations, please get their name or request a supervisor. Its not your local busy airport therefore resources here are limited. But I guarantee you wont stress yourself out before a trip, and the lines are not long for anything. This airport is convenient , local and parking is great. I'm happy this airport is here to stay, keep up the great work...
