Long Point Beach

Beware the poison ivy!!!!!!! It grows like grass here, the dunes are completely covered in it (see picture). Otherwise it's a beautiful and isolated place. I walked all along the beach toward the end of the day and didn't encounter a single person. I walked all the way to the very tip of Long Point and was greeted by a bunch of curious seals in the water. I was able to make the full loop around the point, walking along both the north and south beaches. Some days, it seems, the north beach gets flooded inland and you can't walk that way, though. Check the tides maybe, or try your luck.

Had an excellent day out there exploring. Walked to both light houses, found many cool looking stones, saw some seals swimming, and just had fun walking the beach. The tide went down around 2pm, thats when we crossed. We were out there for about 4 hours and the water was still low when we crossed back around 6pm. Make sure to take snacks and water.

Long point beach is a beautiful beach at the tip of Massachusetts Cape Cod. However this beauty comes at a price of a long long walk. We need to walk over a breakwater to get to the sand part. But it doesn't end there. You have to walk on sand for the longest time to even reach the lighthouse. For a person who is fit and able, it's totally worth it. I would say it's a must visit.

Best beach ever! It's nice to sit on the very tip of Cape Cod and watch the boats go by. Beautiful views, pretty secluded. Nice walk to get there but there's also a shuttle if you don't have time or don't want to walk!

Great place for a walk. Cross the breakwater near the Provincetown Inn cut across the dunes to the water then got to the left to make the loop around Long Point. I saw lots of birds a turtle and many seals.

It a lovely place for a quiet beach day, lots of space to wander along..and to see some gray seals up close..there's also a water shuttle that'll bring you there. $20 round trip but well worth it.👍👍💓💓👍👍

It's a bit of a hike getting out here, you definitely want to wear proper shoes to hike the breakwater. It's well worth the hike because you get to enjoy beautiful views and beaches with very few people on them! A nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

There's a cool little lighthouse out at the end of the point, for those who want to walk the Breakwater Walk, and hike through soft sand to get there... The beach is very quiet because it's hard to get to. The sand is extremely soft and hard to walk through.

If you're looking to escape the world and find boundless beauty...this is your place. I typically rent a kayak on the bayside of town and take the journey across the famous Provincetown Harbor. It's the same harbor where the Pilgrims signed the Mayflower Compact BEFORE landing in Plymouth. Yes, they landed in Provincetown first! Once on long point head toward the tip and you can't miss the lighthouse. Stunning. Be sure to look along the inlets and you can still find some remnants of the 19th century colony (bricks, shards of porcelain etc). Don't forget to find a spot on the beach...you could be the only one on it! Plan around the tide or you'll be dragging your kayak. You can also walk there via the jetty or have the local service (Flyers) drop you off for a fee. I'd avoid the Flyers service. If taking a kayak...DO NOT go directly across the deep part of the harbor! Especially in August or if there are seals in the water. Yes, we have a great white shark population that seems to get bigger every year. Stay along the sand bar (hint, you should almost always see the bay floor). This place is pure heaven.

A very lonely spot The end of the world. It sure feels like it. The absolutely tip of the tip. The end of Provincetown and Cape Cod. You can't go any further or you'll be in the sea. What a great place. The problem is how the hell to get to the end of the world. No roads here, you either go by small boat or walk. It's a pretty good hike through heavy sand but there is a short cut. Go over the breakwater that starts at the Pilgrim Plaque. Just don't try it in rough weather or you will probably die. Assuming you actually get out there you will find one of the absolutely coolest places anywhere. Nothing but wild wind and sea. The light is never open but you can walk right up to it. No one cares because no one is around. Probably for miles. The light was built in 1875 but an earlier one was built in 1826. It's only 38 feet tall and had a fifth order Fresnel lens. I'm not sure whatt happen to the lens. The real cool part is that this area once had lots of houses, buildings and windmills for power. Several hundred people actually lived way out here.. Even two old forts, sarcastically called Fort Useless and Fort Harmless. Apparently they were not too successful. The remains of the forts can still be seen but just lumps in the sand. Everything else is long gone. The wind is always howling out here and you can almost hear the old voices. On one of the mounds there is a large cross with flowers frequently place around it. I'm not sure what it signifies but gives a surrealistic feel to a wild and spooky place.

It pretty much feels like the end of the world here. It's the furthest point you can get in Providencetown/Cape Cod. It's at the very tip. It's accessible by the way of a boat or if you are a daring person, surefooted and into some dangerous adventure......you can walk over the breakwater which itself alone is a 1.2 mile hike on rocks. The breakwater is located near the Pilgrim's Memorial at the juncture of Commercial Street and Route 6. There are warnings at the fence by the breakwater about sharks in the water and riptide. It would not be a good idea to try this trek during a storm. And make sure it will be low tide unless you want to be stuck. Personally I didn't dare. I could see the lighthouses from far and was in awe with anyone who would try this trek over the breakwater. If you do this alone, make sure you tell someone because it looks pretty dangerous and if you can't make it back..at least someone will know. There will be ZERO cell service here. Can't call someone on a cell for help here! On the other side of the harbor you will see two lighthouses, Wood End Lighthouse is the first light house and walk further towards the left to the end...is Long Point Lighthouse. It is a long trek dangerous trek over rocks and sand so start early! This area is super windy!

It's quite a hike to get to Long Point lighthouse but it's beautiful. Sister and I got there at 5am and watched the sunrise. We walked across the causeway to the lighthouse and got the morning sun. It was perfect! I became super obsessed with lighthouse afterwards. Would definitely recommend it if you're looking to escape to the "end" of the Earth.

Love lighthouses in New England! This one is tough to get to, but full drive on beach is amazing.

" Magical journey to the outer most lighthouse (Wood End)" I did this hike on 10/8/14 (1) hr after high tide (Moon) tide. It was a long hike through sand (6.7 miles round trip). Crosses over the jetty walked along the inside only to find water coming out of the dunes. I didn't want to remove my shoes so I found & followed a path up thru the dunes and across to the outer beaches. Got all the way to Wood End then hike all along the outer beach to the Long Point Light back along the inside and across the harbor. Had sustained winds of 18.8 mph and gust head on the outer beach walking towards Long Point of 28.6mph. Even though it was a nice fall afternoon 60-65 degrees. Came across some interesting debris along my walk in the dunes and along the beaches. I take photos on the side of my FT job. Use the PC and get an aerial view of the dues so you can avoid back tracking like I did.
